Abstract

In this paper we clarify the relationship between inhomogeneous quantum spin chains and classical integrable many-body systems. It provides an alternative (to the nested Bethe ansatz) method for computation of spectra of the spin chains. Namely, the spectrum of the quantum transfer matrix for the inhomogeneous $ gl $ n -invariant XXX spin chain on N sites with twisted boundary conditions can be found in terms of velocities of particles in the rational N -body Ruijsenaars-Schneider model. The possible values of the velocities are to be found from intersection points of two Lagrangian submanifolds in the phase space of the classical model. One of them is the Lagrangian hyperplane corresponding to fixed coordinates of all N particles and the other one is an N -dimensional Lagrangian submanifold obtained by fixing levels of N classical Hamiltonians in involution. The latter are determined by eigenvalues of the twist matrix. To support this picture, we give a direct proof that the eigenvalues of the Lax matrix for the classical Ruijsenaars-Schneider model, where velocities of particles are substituted by eigenvalues of the spin chain Hamiltonians, calculated through the Bethe equations, coincide with eigenvalues of the twist matrix, with certain multiplicities. We also prove a similar statement for the $ gl $ n Gaudin model with N marked points (on the quantum side) and the Calogero-Moser system with N particles (on the classical side). The realization of the results obtained in terms of branes and supersymmetric gauge theories is also discussed.

Classical facets of quantum integrability

A. Zabrodin

This paper is a review of the works devoted to understanding and reinterpretation of the theory of quantum integrable models solvable by Bethe ansatz in terms of the theory of purely classical soliton equations. Remarkably, studying polynomial solutions of the latter by methods of classical soliton theory, one is able to develop a method of solving the spectral problem for the former which provides an alternative to the Bethe ansatz procedure. Our main examples are the generalized inhomogeneous spins chains with twisted boundary conditions on the quantum side and the modified Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy of nonlinear differential-difference equations on the classical side. In this paper, we restrict ourselves to quantum spin chains with rational $GL(n)$-invariant $R$-matrices (of the XXX type). Also, the connection of quantum spin chains with classical soliton equations implies a close interrelation between the spectral problem for spin chains and integrable many-body systems of classical mechanics such as Calogero-Moser and Ruijsenaars-Scheider models, which is known as the quantum-classical duality. Revisiting this topic, we suggest a simpler and more instructive proof of this kind of duality.

Trigonometric version of quantum–classical duality in integrable systems

Maxim Beketov, Andrii Nikolaevich Liashyk, Anton Vladimirovich Zabrodin +1 more

We extend the quantum–classical duality to the trigonometric (hyperbolic) case. The duality establishes an explicit relationship between the classical N-body trigonometric Ruijsenaars–Schneider model and the inhomogeneous twisted XXZ spin chain on N sites. Similarly to the rational version, the spin chain data fixes a certain Lagrangian submanifold in the phase space of the classical integrable system. The inhomogeneity parameters are equal to the coordinates of particles while the velocities of classical particles are proportional to the eigenvalues of the spin chain Hamiltonians (residues of the properly normalized transfer matrix). In the rational version of the duality, the action variables of the Ruijsenaars–Schneider model are equal to the twist parameters with some multiplicities defined by quantum (occupation) numbers. In contrast to the rational version, in the trigonometric case there is a splitting of the spectrum of action variables (eigenvalues of the classical Lax matrix). The limit corresponding to the classical Calogero–Sutherland system and quantum trigonometric Gaudin model is also described as well as the XX limit to free fermions.

Supersymmetric quantum spin chains and classical integrable systems

Zengo Tsuboi, Anton Zabrodin, Andrei Vladimirovich Zotov

For integrable inhomogeneous supersymmetric spin chains (generalized graded magnets) constructed employing Y(gl(N|M))-invariant R-matrices in finite-dimensional representations we introduce the master T-operator which is a sort of generating function for the family of commuting quantum transfer matrices. Any eigenvalue of the master T-operator is the tau-function of the classical mKP hierarchy. It is a polynomial in the spectral parameter which is identified with the 0-th time of the hierarchy. This implies a remarkable relation between the quantum supersymmetric spin chains and classical many-body integrable systems of particles of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider type. As an outcome, we obtain a system of algebraic equations for the spectrum of the spin chain Hamiltonians.

Quantum spin chains and classical integrable systems

Zabrodin Anton

Abstract This chapter is a review of the recently established quantum-classical correspondence for integrable systems based on the construction of the master T-operator. For integrable inhomogeneous quantum spin chains with gl(N)-invariant R-matrices in finite-dimensional representations, the master T-operator is a sort of generating function for the family of commuting quantum transfer matrices depending on an infinite number of parameters. Any eigenvalue of the master T-operator is the tau-function of the classical modified KP hierarchy. It is a polynomial in the spectral parameter which is identified with the 0th time of the hierarchy. This implies a remarkable relation between the quantum spin chains and classical many-body integrable systems of particles of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider type. As an outcome, a system of algebraic equations can be obtained for the spectrum of the spin chain Hamiltonians.

On the complete-spectrum characterization of quantum integrable spin chains via inhomogeneousT–Qrelation

Junpeng Cao, Wen‐Li Yang, Kangjie Shi +1 more

With the XXZ spin chains as examples, we prove two theorems: (1) the functional relations derived from the off-diagonal Bethe Ansatz scheme are the sufficient and necessary conditions to characterize the complete spectrum of the corresponding transfer matrix; (2) each eigenvalue of the transfer matrix can be parameterized by a minimal inhomogeneous T – Q relation. These statements hold for both with and without inhomogeneity. The proof can be generalized to other finite-dimensional quantum integrable models.

Bethe equations for the critical three-state Potts spin chain with toroidal boundary conditions

Martins, M. J.

In this paper, we consider the parameterization of the spectra of the three-state critical Potts quantum chain with integrable twisted boundary conditions in terms of Bethe ansatz type equations. The Bethe equations are found by investigating the structure of the eigenvalues of the respective twisted transfer matrices, and with the help of certain identities satisfied by the product of transfer matrix operators. We have studied the completeness of the spectrum in terms of the Bethe roots for small lattice sizes and have computed the eigenstate momenta. We found that the spins of the low-lying excitations can have fractional values in accordance with predictions of the underlying conformal field theory. We argue that our framework can be used to build integrable Hamiltonians whose spectra are determined by mixing different toroidal boundary conditions.
