Abstract

Protecting quantum correlation from decoherence is one of the crucial issues in quantum information processing. It has been commonly recognized that any initial quantum correlation of a composite system diminishes asymptotically or abruptly to zero under local Markovian decoherence. Here we show that, contrary to this recognition, a noticeable Gaussian quantum discord of a continuous-variable bipartite system can be frozen in the steady state in the non-Markovian dynamics if each of the subsystems forms a localized mode with its local reservoir. The condition for this frozen quantum discord can be reached by appropriately engineering the structure of the reservoirs. The possible realization of our results in a coupled cavity array system formed by a photonic crystal is proposed.

Non-Markovian Dynamic of Gaussian Quantum Discord in Continuous-Variable Systems

Xiao Liu, Wei Wu

We show the special dynamic characteristic of Gaussian quantum discord, exhibited by two-mode Gaussian symmetric squeezed thermal states (STS) in continuous-variable (CV) systems with a common non-Markovian environment, is denitely dierent from Markov processes. We demonstrate that Gaussian quantum discord can be created whenever the information ow from environment back to the system. We also show that the rate of decrease for Gaussian quantum discord is related to the coupling constant. We discover that the initial value of Gaussian quantum discord is determined by the average number of thermal photons of the system.

Quantum Discord of Two Bosonic Modes in Two-Reservoir Model

Аурелиан Исар

In the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups, we give a description of the continuous variable quantum discord for a system consisting of two non-interacting bosonic modes embedded in two independent thermal environments. We describe the evolution of discord in terms of the covariance matrix for Gaussian input states. In the case of an entangled initial squeezed vacuum state, we analyze the time evolution of the Gaussian quantum discord, which is a measure of all quantum correlations in the bipartite state, including entanglement, and show that quantum discord decays asymptotically in time under the effect of the thermal reservoirs. For an initial separable pure state, the Gaussian quantum discord is zero and it keeps this value during the whole evolution of the system.

Rise of quantum correlations in non-Markovian environments in continuous-variable systems

Xin Liu, Wei Wu

We investigate the time evolution of quantum correlations, which are measured by Gaussian quantum discord in a continuous-variable bipartite system subject to common and independent non-Markovian environments. Considering an initial two-mode Gaussian symmetric squeezed thermal state, we show that quantum correlations can be created during the non-Markovian evolution, which is different from the Markovian process. Furthermore, we find that the temperature is a key factor during the evolution in non-Markovian environments. For common reservoirs, a maximum creation of quantum correlations may occur under an appropriate temperature. For independent reservoirs, the non-Markovianity of the total system corresponds to the subsystem whose temperature is higher. In both common and independent environments, the Gaussian quantum discord is influenced by the temperature and the photon number of each mode.

Dynamic of the Gaussian quantum discord and effect of non-Markovian degree

Xin Liu, Wei Wu, Changkui Hu

We study the dynamic of the Gaussian quantum discord in a continuous-variable system subject to a common non-Markovian environment with zero-temperature. By considering an initial two-mode Gaussian symmetric squeezed thermal state, we show that Gaussian discord has a very different dynamic characteristic in a non-Markovian evolution versus a Markov process, and can be created by the memory effect, which features non-Markovianity. We also study the relationship between Gaussian discord and the non-Markovian degree of the environment. The results may offer us an effective experimental method to get more quantum correlations.

Zero quantum discord for Markovian bipartite systems

J. Jeknić-Dugić, M. Arsenijević, M. Dugić

Quantum discord measures the total non-classical correlations in a composite quantum system. As a possible resource for the classically non-achievable tasks, amount of quantum discord is crucial for efficient performance of the quantum technology tasks. Zero discord means the absence of the required resources. For a wide class of the bipartite open quantum systems, initial nonzero discord is known practically never goes to zero, except asymptotically. However, if initial discord equals zero, there remains the possibility to remain zero for the finite time intervals for certain Markovian models of open systems-that we call Markovian classicality. In this paper we search for the models that allow for Markovian classicality. We point out a general model that represents a matter-of-principle formal proof, i.e. a sufficient condition for the, otherwise not obvious, existence of Markovian classicality. Physical relevance of the model is twofold. First, the model is in intimate relation to the topics of quantum information locality, quantum discord saturation and quantum decorrelation. Second, the model is of the general physical interest. It pertains to a specific structure (decomposition into parts/subsystems) of a composite system, not to a special kind of composite system. Being a characteristic of a structure, by definition, the model of Markovian classicality is not a model of sudden death of discord. We emphasize wide-range implications of our results.

FROZEN DISCORD IN NON-MARKOVIAN DEPHASING CHANNELS

LAURA MAZZOLA, Jyrki Piilo, Sabrina Maniscalco

We investigate the dynamics of quantum and classical correlations in a system of two qubits under local colored-noise dephasing channels. The time evolution of a single qubit interacting with its own environment is described by a memory kernel non-Markovian master equation. The memory effects of the non-Markovian reservoirs introduce new features in the dynamics of quantum and classical correlations compared to the white noise Markovian case. Depending on the geometry of the initial state, the system can exhibit frozen discord and multiple sudden transitions between classical and quantum decoherence [L. Mazzola, J. Piilo and S. Maniscalco, Phys. Rev. Lett. 104 (2010) 200401]. We provide a geometric interpretation of those phenomena in terms of the distance of the state under investigation to its closest classical state in the Hilbert space of the system.
