Abstract

We report on the demonstration of correlated photon pair generation in quasi-phase-matched superlattice AlGaAs waveguides with a high coincidence-to-accidental ratio (CAR); with a continuous (CW) pump, the observed CAR (>100) is more than two order of magnitudes improvement over previously reported spontaneous down conversion (SPDC) schemes in AlGaAs waveguides with a pulsed pump.

We report the first demonstration of CW-pumped correlated photon-pair generation in an AlGaAs waveguide with a coincidence-to-accidental ratio > 100. This is about two orders of magnitude greater than previously reported in AlGaAs waveguides.

Continuous-wave quasi-phase-matched waveguide correlated photon pair source on a III–V chip

Peyman Sarrafi, Eric Y. Zhu, Ksenia Dolgaleva +4 more

We report on the demonstration of correlated photon pair generation in a quasi-phase-matched superlattice GaAs/AlGaAs waveguide using a continuous-wave pump. Our photon pair source has a low noise level and achieves a high coincidence-to-accidental ratio greater than 100, which is the highest value reported in III–V chips so far. This correlated photon pair source has the potential to be monolithically integrated with on-chip pump laser sources fabricated on the same superlattice wafer structure, enabling direct correlated/entangled photon pair production from a compact electrically powered chip.

Correlated photon pair generation in AlGaAs nanowaveguides via spontaneous four-wave mixing

Pisek Kultavewuti, Eric Y. Zhu, Li Qian +3 more

We demonstrate a source of correlated photon pairs which will have applications in future integrated quantum photonic circuits. The source utilizes spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in a dispersion-engineered nanowaveguide made of AlGaAs, which has merits of negligible two-photon absorption and low spontaneous Raman scattering (SpRS). We observe a coincidence-to-accidental (CAR) ratio up to 177, mainly limited by propagation losses. Experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions of the SFWM photon pair generation and the SpRS noise photon generation. We also study the effects from the SpRS, propagation losses, and waveguide lengths on the quality of our source.

Generation of Correlated Photon Pairs in Modal Phase-Matched Lithium Niobate Nanowaveguide

Wenxiu Li, Yunru Fan, Yuanjie Yang +7 more

We demonstrate the generation of correlated photon pairs in a modal phase-matched lithium niobate nanowaveguide via cascaded second-harmonic generation (SHG) and spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC). A pair generation rate (PGR) of$1.1 \times 10^{5} \text{Hz} \text{mW}^{-2}$and coincidence-toaccidental ratio (CAR) up to 188 are obtained.

Generation of correlated photons in controlled spatial modes by downconversion in nonlinear waveguides

Konrad Banaszek, Alfred B. U’Ren, Ian A. Walmsley

We report the observation of correlated photon pairs generated by spontaneous parametric downconversion of a 400-nm pump pulse in a quasi-phase-matched KTiOPO(4) nonlinear waveguide. The highest ratio of coincidence to single-photon count rates observed near 800 nm exceeds 18%. This suggests that nonlinear waveguides will be a promising source of correlated photons for metrology and quantum information processing applications. We also discuss possibilities of controlling the spatial characteristics of the downconverted photons produced in multimode waveguide structures.

Generation of correlated photon pairs in a chalcogenide As2S3 waveguide

C. Xiong, G. D. Marshall, Alberto Peruzzo +16 more

We demonstrate a 1550 nm correlated photon-pair source in an integrated glass platform—a chalcogenide As2S3 waveguide. A measured pair coincidence rate of 80s−1 was achieved using 57 mW of continuous-wave pump. The coincidence to accidental ratio was shown to be limited by spontaneous Raman scattering effects that are expected to be mitigated by using a pulsed pump source.
