Competition of different evaluation schemes in the continuous variable game

Abstract

An asymmetric generalization of classical Cournot's duopoly game was introduced and the simulation scheme of its quantized version was analyzed. In this scheme, the player assigned by a 'classical' measurement scheme always wins the player assigned by a quantum measurement scheme. It was shown that the fluctuation causes the disadvantage game rule of the 'quantum' player.

Simulation of continuous variable quantum games without entanglement

Shang-Bin Li

A simulation scheme of quantum version of Cournot's duopoly is proposed, in which there is a new Nash equilibrium that may also be Pareto optimal without any entanglement involved. The unique property of this simulation scheme is decoherence-free against the symmetric photon loss. Furthermore, we analyze the effects of the asymmetric information on this simulation scheme and investigate the case of asymmetric game caused by asymmetric photon loss. A second-order phase transition-like behavior of the average profits of firms 1 and 2 in a Nash equilibrium can be observed with the change of the degree of asymmetry of the information or the degree of ‘virtual cooperation’. It is also found that asymmetric photon loss in this simulation scheme plays a similar role as that with the asymmetric entangled states in the quantum game.

Remarks on quantum duopoly schemes

Piotr Frąckiewicz

The aim of this paper is to discuss in some detail the two different quantum schemes for duopoly problems. We investigate under what conditions one of the schemes is more reasonable that the other one. Using the Cournot's duopoly example we show that the current quantum schemes require a slight refinement so that they output the classical game in a particular case. Then we show how the amendment changes the way of studying the quantum games with respect to Nash equilibria. Finally, we define another scheme for the Cournot's duopoly in terms of quantum computation.

Quantum Approach to Cournot-type Competition

Piotr Frąckiewicz

The aim of this paper is to investigate Cournot-type competition in the quantum domain with the use of the Li-Du-Massar scheme for continuous-variable quantum games. We derive a formula which, in a simple way, determines a unique Nash equilibrium. The result concerns a large class of Cournot duopoly problems including the competition, where the demand and cost functions are not necessary linear. Further, we show that the Nash equilibrium converges to a Pareto-optimal strategy profile as the quantum correlation increases. In addition to illustrating how the formula works, we provide the readers with two examples.

Chaotic dynamics of a quantum Cournot duopoly game with heterogeneous expectations

Yuhuai Zhang, Jing Yuan, Yili Zhang

On the basis of the bounded rationality and adaptive expectations, we investigate the dynamics of quantum Cournot duopoly game with heterogeneous players by using the Li et al. scheme. Further, we discuss the effect of quantum entanglement on local stability of the system. The results show that: (i) The special form of quantum Cournot duopoly game is the classical Cournot duopoly game, and the quantum Cournot duopoly game with naïve expectation is also a special form of quantum Cournot duopoly game with adaptive expectation. (ii) The increase or decrease of the stable region is dependent on the degree of quantum entanglement. It is related to the difference of relative marginal cost. (iii) The numerical simulation reveals the complexity characteristics of quantum dynamic Cournot game system through the analysis of stability region, bifurcation, strange attractor and sensitivity to initial conditions, and shows the difference from the classical dynamic Cournot model.

Nonlinear quantum Cournot duopoly games

Nengfa Wang, Zhe Yang

Abstract We investigate the quantization of nonlinear Cournot duopoly games by applying the Li–Du–Massar and Frackiewicz quantum schemes. We shall analyze the quantum equilibrium quantities and quantum equilibrium profits of nonlinear quantum Cournot duopoly games by using the qualitative analysis.
