Abstract

We demonstrate genuine three-mode nonlocality based on phase-space formalism. A Svetlichny-type Bell inequality is formulated in terms of the $s$-parametrized quasiprobability function. We test such a tool using exemplary forms of three-mode entangled states, identifying the ideal measurement settings required for each state. We thus verify the presence of genuine three-mode nonlocality that cannot be reproduced by local or nonlocal hidden variable models between any two out of three modes. In our results, GHZ- and W-type nonlocality can be fully discriminated. We also study the behavior of genuine tripartite nonlocality under the effects of detection inefficiency and dissipation induced by local thermal environments. Our formalism can be useful to test the sharing of genuine multipartite quantum correlations among the elements of some interesting physical settings, including arrays of trapped ions and intracavity ultracold atoms.

Definitions of multipartite nonlocality

Jean-Daniel Bancal, Jonathan Barrett, Nicolas Gisin +1 more

In a multipartite setting, it is possible to distinguish quantum states that are genuinely $n$-way entangled from those that are separable with respect to some bipartition. Similarly, the nonlocal correlations that can arise from measurements on entangled states can be classified into those that are genuinely $n$-way nonlocal, and those that are local with respect to some bipartition. Svetlichny introduced an inequality intended as a test for genuine tripartite nonlocality. This work introduces two alternative definitions of $n$-way nonlocality, which we argue are better motivated both from the point of view of the study of nature, and from the point of view of quantum information theory. We show that these definitions are strictly weaker than Svetlichny's, and introduce a series of suitable Bell-type inequalities for the detection of three-way nonlocality. Numerical evidence suggests that all three-way entangled pure quantum states can produce three-way nonlocal correlations.

Efficient test to demonstrate genuine three particle nonlocality

Kaushiki Mukherjee, Biswajit Paul, Debasis Sarkar

According to the studies of genuine tripartite nonlocality in discrete variable quantum systems conducted so far, Svetlichny inequality is considered as the best Bell-type inequality to detect genuine (three way) nonlocality of pure tripartite genuine entangled states. In the present work, we have considered another Bell-type inequality (which has been reported as the 99th facet of NS 2 local polytope in Bancal et al (2013 Phys. Rev. A 88 014102 ), to reveal genuine tripartite nonlocality of generalized GHZ (Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger) class and a subclass of extended GHZ class states Acín et al (2000 Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1560 ) thereby proving the conjecture given by Bancal et al (2013 Phys. Rev. A 88 014102 ) for the GGHZ class and the subclass of extended GHZ states. We compare the violation of this inequality with Svetlichny inequality which reveals the efficiency of the former inequality over the latter to demonstrate genuine nonlocality using the above classes of quantum states. Even in some cases discord monogamy score can be used as a better measure of quantum correlation over Svetlichny inequality for those classes of pure states. Besides, the 99th facet inequality is found efficient not only for revealing genuine nonlocal behavior of correlations emerging in systems using pure entangled states but also in some cases of mixed entangled states over Svetlichny inequality and some well known measures of entanglement.

Theory of Genuine Tripartite Nonlocality of Gaussian States

Gerardo Adesso, Samanta Piano

We investigate the genuine multipartite nonlocality of three-mode Gaussian states of continuous variable systems. For pure states, we present a simplified procedure to obtain the maximum violation of the Svetlichny inequality based on displaced parity measurements, and we analyze its interplay with genuine tripartite entanglement measured via Rényi-2 entropy. The maximum Svetlichny violation admits tight upper and lower bounds at fixed tripartite entanglement. For mixed states, no violation is possible when the purity falls below 0.86. We also explore a set of recently derived weaker inequalities for three-way nonlocality, finding violations for all tested pure states. Our results provide a strong signature for the nonclassical and nonlocal nature of Gaussian states despite their positive Wigner function, and lead to precise recipes for its experimental verification.

Genuine multipartite nonlocality of permutationally invariant Gaussian states

Buqing Xu, Tommaso Tufarelli, Gerardo Adesso

We investigate genuine multipartite nonlocality of pure permutationally invariant multimode Gaussian states of continuous variable systems, as detected by the violation of Svetlichny inequality. We identify the phase space settings leading to the largest violation of the inequality when using displaced parity measurements, distinguishing our results between the cases of even and odd total number of modes. We further consider pseudospin measurements and show that, for three-mode states with asymptotically large squeezing degree, particular settings of these measurements allow one to approach the maximum violation of Svetlichny inequality allowed by quantum mechanics. This indicates that the strongest manifestation of genuine multipartite quantum nonlocality is in principle verifiable on Gaussian states.

Optimal tests of genuine multipartite nonlocality

Mahasweta Pandit, Artur Barasiński, István Márton +2 more

Abstract We propose an optimal and efficient numerical test for witnessing genuine multipartite nonlocality based on a geometric approach. In particular, we consider two non-equivalent models of local hidden variables, namely the Svetlichny and the no-signaling bilocal models. While our knowledge concerning these models is well established for Bell-type scenarios involving two measurement settings per party, the general case based on an arbitrary number of settings is a considerably more challenging task and very little work has been done in this field. In this paper, we applied such general tests to detect and characterize genuine n-way nonlocal correlations for various states of three qubits and qutrits. Apart from the fundamental problem of characterizing genuine multipartite nonlocal correlations, the extension of the number of measurements beyond two is also of practical importance. As a measure of nonlocality, we use the probability of violation of local realism under randomly sampled observables, and the strength of nonlocality, described by the resistance to white noise admixture. In particular, we analyze to what extent the Bell-type scenario involving two measurement settings can be used to certify genuine n-way nonlocal correlations generated for more general models. In addition, we propose a simple procedure to detect such nonlocal correlations for randomly chosen settings with an efficiency of up to 100%. Due to its near-perfect efficiency, our method may open new possibilities in device-independent quantum cryptography applications where strong nonlocality between all partners is required.

Testing genuine tripartite quantum nonlocality with three two-level atoms in a driven cavity

Hao Yuan, L. F. Wei

It is known that the violation of Svetlichny's inequality (SI), rather than the usual Mermin's inequality (MI), is a robust criterion to confirm the existence of genuine multipartite quantum nonlocality. In this paper, we propose a feasible approach to test SI with three two-level atoms (TLAs) dispersively coupled to a driven cavity. The proposal is based on the joint measurements of the states of three TLAs by probing the steady-state transmission spectra of the driven cavity: each peak marks one of the computational basis states and its relative height corresponds to the probability superposed in the detected three-TLA state. With these kinds of joint measurements, the correlation functions in SI can be directly calculated, and thus the SI can be efficiently tested for typical tripartite entanglement, i.e., genuine tripartite entanglement [e.g., Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states] and biseparable three-qubit entangled states (e.g., ${|\ensuremath{\chi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{12}{|\ensuremath{\xi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{3}$). Our numerical experiments show that the SI is violated only by three-qubit GHZ and W states, not by biseparable three-qubit entangled state ${|\ensuremath{\chi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{12}{|\ensuremath{\xi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{3}$, while the MI can still be violated by biseparable three-qubit entangled states. Thus the violation of SI can be regarded as a robust criterion for the existence of genuine tripartite entanglement.
