Abstract

It is known that the violation of Svetlichny's inequality (SI), rather than the usual Mermin's inequality (MI), is a robust criterion to confirm the existence of genuine multipartite quantum nonlocality. In this paper, we propose a feasible approach to test SI with three two-level atoms (TLAs) dispersively coupled to a driven cavity. The proposal is based on the joint measurements of the states of three TLAs by probing the steady-state transmission spectra of the driven cavity: each peak marks one of the computational basis states and its relative height corresponds to the probability superposed in the detected three-TLA state. With these kinds of joint measurements, the correlation functions in SI can be directly calculated, and thus the SI can be efficiently tested for typical tripartite entanglement, i.e., genuine tripartite entanglement [e.g., Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) and W states] and biseparable three-qubit entangled states (e.g., ${|\ensuremath{\chi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{12}{|\ensuremath{\xi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{3}$). Our numerical experiments show that the SI is violated only by three-qubit GHZ and W states, not by biseparable three-qubit entangled state ${|\ensuremath{\chi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{12}{|\ensuremath{\xi}\ensuremath{\rangle}}_{3}$, while the MI can still be violated by biseparable three-qubit entangled states. Thus the violation of SI can be regarded as a robust criterion for the existence of genuine tripartite entanglement.

Svetlichny’s inequality and genuine tripartite nonlocality in three-qubit pure states

Ashok Ajoy, Pranaw Rungta

The violation of the Svetlichny's inequality (SI) [Phys. Rev. D 35, 3066 (1987)] is sufficient but not necessary for genuine tripartite nonlocal correlations. Here we quantify the relationship between tripartite entanglement and the maximum expectation value of the Svetlichny operator (which is bounded from above by the inequality) for the two inequivalent subclasses of pure three-qubit states: the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) class and the $W$ class. We show that the maximum for the GHZ-class states reduces to Mermin's inequality [Phys. Rev. Lett. 65, 1838 (1990)] modulo a constant factor, and although it is a function of the three tangle and the residual concurrence, large numbers of states do not violate the inequality. We further show that by design SI is more suitable as a measure of genuine tripartite nonlocality between the three qubits in the $W$-class states, and the maximum is a certain function of the bipartite entanglement (the concurrence) of the three reduced states, and only when their sum attains a certain threshold value do they violate the inequality.

Testing tripartite Mermin inequalities by spectral joint measurements of qubits

J. S. Huang, C. H. Oh, L. F. Wei

Using spectral joint measurements of the qubits, we propose a scheme to test the tripartite Mermin inequality with three qubits dispersively coupled to a driven cavity. First, we show how to generate a three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state by only one-step quantum operation. Then spectral joint measurements are introduced to directly confirm such tripartite entanglement. Assisted by a series of single-qubit operations, these measurements are further utilized to test the Mermin inequality. The feasibility of the proposal is robustly demonstrated by the present numerical experiments.

Efficient test to demonstrate genuine three particle nonlocality

Kaushiki Mukherjee, Biswajit Paul, Debasis Sarkar

According to the studies of genuine tripartite nonlocality in discrete variable quantum systems conducted so far, Svetlichny inequality is considered as the best Bell-type inequality to detect genuine (three way) nonlocality of pure tripartite genuine entangled states. In the present work, we have considered another Bell-type inequality (which has been reported as the 99th facet of NS 2 local polytope in Bancal et al (2013 Phys. Rev. A 88 014102 ), to reveal genuine tripartite nonlocality of generalized GHZ (Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger) class and a subclass of extended GHZ class states Acín et al (2000 Phys. Rev. Lett. 85 1560 ) thereby proving the conjecture given by Bancal et al (2013 Phys. Rev. A 88 014102 ) for the GGHZ class and the subclass of extended GHZ states. We compare the violation of this inequality with Svetlichny inequality which reveals the efficiency of the former inequality over the latter to demonstrate genuine nonlocality using the above classes of quantum states. Even in some cases discord monogamy score can be used as a better measure of quantum correlation over Svetlichny inequality for those classes of pure states. Besides, the 99th facet inequality is found efficient not only for revealing genuine nonlocal behavior of correlations emerging in systems using pure entangled states but also in some cases of mixed entangled states over Svetlichny inequality and some well known measures of entanglement.

Quantum nonlocality test by spectral joint measurements of qubits in driven cavity

Hao Yuan, L. F. Wei, Jianhua Huang +1 more

We propose a feasible approach to test quantum nonlocality with two qubits dispersively coupled to a driven cavity. Our proposal is based on spectral joint measurements of two qubits, i.e. , their quantum states in the computational basis states {| kl 〉, k , l = 0,1} can be measured nondestructively by detecting the steady-state transmission spectra of the driven cavity. With this kind of measurements, the existence of Bell state can be robustly confirmed instead of conventional quantum state tomography. Then this kind of measurements is further utilized to test CHSH-Bell inequality. The advantage and feasibility of our proposal are also discussed.

Tight upper bound for the maximal quantum value of the Svetlichny operators

Ming Li, Shu‐Qian Shen, Naihuan Jing +2 more

It is a challenging task to detect genuine multipartite nonlocality (GMNL). In this paper, the problem is considered via computing the maximal quantum value of Svetlichny operators for three-qubit systems and a tight upper bound is obtained. The constraints on the quantum states for the tightness of the bound are also presented. The approach enables us to give the necessary and sufficient conditions of violating the Svetlichny inequality (SI) for several quantum states, including the white and color noised Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states. The relation between the genuine multipartite entanglement concurrence and the maximal quantum value of the Svetlichny operators for mixed GHZ class states is also discussed. As the SI is useful for the investigation of GMNL, our results give an effective and operational method to detect the GMNL for three-qubit mixed states.

Experimental verification of time-order-dependent correlations in three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-class states

Artur Barasiński, Antonín Černoch, Karel Lemr +1 more

In this paper, we investigate the genuine three-way nonlocality which is recognized as the strongest form of tripartite correlations. We consider theoretically and experimentally a series of suitable Bell-type inequalities a violation of which is sufficient for the detection of three-way nonlocality. For the generalized GHZ (gGHZ) states, it is demonstrated that they do violate tripartite Bell-type inequalities for any degree of tripartite entanglement even if they do not violate Svetlichny inequality. It implies that three-way entangled gGHZ can always exhibit genuine three-way nonlocality under the requirement of time-order-dependent principle. Furthermore, we have determined the maximal amount of noise admissible for the gGHZ states to still remain genuine three-way nonlocal.
