Finite Size Corrections for Dimers

Abstract

In this paper we derive the finite size corrections to the energy eigenvalues of the energy for 2D dimers on a square lattice. These finite size corrections, as in the case of Critical Dense Polymers, are proportional to the eigenvalues of the Local Integrals of Motion of Bazhanov Lukyanov and Zamolodchikov for central charge $c=-2$. This sheds more light on the status of the Dimer model as a conformal field theory with this value of the certral charge.

Amplitude ratios for critical systems in the c=−2 universality class

N. Sh. Izmailian, Chin‐Kun Hu

We study the finite-size corrections of the critical dense polymer (CDP) and the dimer models on ∞×N rectangular lattice. We find that the finite-size corrections in the CDP and dimer models depend in a crucial way on the parity of N, and a change of the parity of N is equivalent to the change of boundary conditions. We present a set of universal amplitude ratios for amplitudes in finite-size correction terms of critical systems in the universality class with central charge c=-2. The results are in perfect agreement with a perturbated conformal field theory under the assumption that all analytical corrections coming from the operators which belongs to the tower of the identity. Our results inspire many interesting problems for further studies.

Finite-size corrections and scaling for the dimer model on the checkerboard lattice

N. Sh. Izmailian, Ming-Chya Wu, Chin‐Kun Hu

Lattice models are useful for understanding behaviors of interacting complex many-body systems. The lattice dimer model has been proposed to study the adsorption of diatomic molecules on a substrate. Here we analyze the partition function of the dimer model on a 2M×2N checkerboard lattice wrapped on a torus and derive the exact asymptotic expansion of the logarithm of the partition function. We find that the internal energy at the critical point is equal to zero. We also derive the exact finite-size corrections for the free energy, the internal energy, and the specific heat. Using the exact partition function and finite-size corrections for the dimer model on a finite checkerboard lattice, we obtain finite-size scaling functions for the free energy, the internal energy, and the specific heat of the dimer model. We investigate the properties of the specific heat near the critical point and find that the specific-heat pseudocritical point coincides with the critical point of the thermodynamic limit, which means that the specific-heat shift exponent λ is equal to ∞. We have also considered the limit N→∞ for which we obtain the expansion of the free energy for the dimer model on the infinitely long cylinder. From a finite-size analysis we have found that two conformal field theories with the central charges c=1 for the height function description and c=-2 for the construction using a mapping of spanning trees can be used to describe the dimer model on the checkerboard lattice.

The BaxterQoperator of critical dense polymers

Alessandro Nigro

We consider critical dense polymers , corresponding to a logarithmic conformal field theory with central charge c = −2. An elegant decomposition of the Baxter Q operator is obtained in terms of a finite number of lattice integrals of motion. All local, nonlocal and dual nonlocal involutive charges are introduced directly on the lattice and their continuum limit is found to agree with the expressions predicted by conformal field theory. A highly nontrivial operator Ψ(ν) is introduced on the lattice taking values in the Temperley–Lieb algebra. This Ψ function provides a lattice discretization of the analogous function introduced by Bazhanov, Lukyanov and Zamolodchikov. It is also observed how the eigenvalues of the Q operator reproduce the well known spectral determinant for the harmonic oscillator in the continuum scaling limit.

Dimer model on a triangular lattice

N. Sh. Izmailian, Ralph Kenna B

We analyze the partition function of the dimer model on an $\mathcal{M}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathcal{N}$ triangular lattice wrapped on a torus obtained by Fendley, Moessner, and Sondhi [Phys. Rev. B 66, 214513 (2002)]. From a finite-size analysis we have found that the dimer model on such a lattice can be described by a conformal field theory having a central charge $c=\ensuremath{-}2$. The shift exponent for the specific heat is found to depend on the parity of the number of lattice sites $\mathcal{N}$ along a given lattice axis: e.g., for odd $\mathcal{N}$ we obtain the shift exponent $\ensuremath{\lambda}=1$, while for even $\mathcal{N}$ it is infinite ($\ensuremath{\lambda}=\ensuremath{\infty}$). In the former case, therefore, the finite-size specific-heat pseudocritical point is size dependent, while in the latter case it coincides with the critical point of the thermodynamic limit.

Universal behavior of entanglement in 2D quantum critical dimer models

Benjamin Hsu, Eduardo Fradkin

We examine the scaling behavior of the entanglement entropy for the 2D quantum dimer model (QDM) at criticality and derive the universal finite sub-leading correction $γ_{QCP}$. We compute the value of $γ_{QCP}$ without approximation working directly with the wave function of a generalized 2D QDM at the Rokhsar-Kivelson QCP in the continuum limit. Using the replica approach, we construct the conformal boundary state corresponding to the cyclic identification of $n$-copies along the boundary of the observed region. We find that the universal finite term is $γ_{QCP}=\ln R-1/2$ where $R$ is the compactification radius of the bose field theory quantum Lifshitz model, the effective field theory of the 2D QDM at quantum criticality. We also demonstrated that the entanglement spectrum of the critical wave function on a large but finite region is described by the characters of the underlying conformal field theory. It is shown that this is formally related to the problems of quantum Brownian motion on $n$-dimensional lattices or equivalently a system of strings interacting with a brane containing a background electromagnetic field and can be written as an expectation value of a vertex operator.

Yang–Baxter solution of dimers as a free-fermion six-vertex model

Paul A. Pearce, Alessandra Vittorini-Orgeas

Abstract It is shown that Dimers is Yang–Baxter integrable as a six-vertex model at the free-fermion point with crossing parameter λ = π 2 . A one-to-many mapping of vertices onto dimer configurations allows the free-fermion solutions to be applied to the anisotropic dimer model on a square lattice where the dimers are rotated by 45 ∘ compared to their usual orientation. This dimer model is exactly solvable in geometries of arbitrary finite size. In this paper, we establish and solve inversion identities for Dimers with periodic boundary conditions on the cylinder. In the particle representation, the local face tile operators give a representation of the fermion algebra, and the fermion particle trajectories play the role of nonlocal (logarithmic) degrees of freedom. In a suitable gauge, the dimer model is described by the Temperley–Lieb algebra with loop fugacity β = 2 cos ⁡ λ = 0 . At the isotropic point, the exact solution allows for the explicit counting of 45 ∘ rotated dimer configurations on a periodic M × N rectangular lattice. We show that the modular invariant partition function on the torus is the same as that of symplectic fermions and critical dense polymers. We also show that nontrivial Jordan cells appear for the dimer Hamiltonian on the strip with vacuum boundary conditions. We therefore argue that, in the continuum scaling limit, the dimer model gives rise to a logarithmic conformal field theory with central charge c = − 2 , minimal conformal weight Δ m i n = − 1 / 8 and effective central charge c e f f = 1 .
