Abstract

The time evolution of low energy spin states of a single molecular magnet in a local electric field is investigated. The decoherence of the driven single molecular magnet weakly coupled to a thermal bosonic environment is analyzed by the second-order time-convolutionless non-Markovian master equation. If the characteristic time of the system is much smaller than the correlation time of the environment, the analytical expression of the reduced density matrix of the system is obtained. The non-Markovian dynamics of the spin states at low temperatures is induced by the memory effects in the decay rates. The non-Markovian oscillation of the Bloch vector is presented. The quantum decoherence can be effectively restrained with the help of the reasonable manipulation of the environment spectral density function and local electric field. The influence of the dissipation on the pointer states are investigated by the von Neumann entropy. The pointer states can be selected by the environment.

Finite-temperature decoherence of spin states in a {Cu3} single molecular magnet

Xiang Hao, Xiaoqun Wang, Chen Liu +1 more

We investigate the quantum evolution of spin states of a single molecular magnet in a local electric field. The decoherence of a $\texttt{\{}\emph{Cu}_3\texttt{\}}$ single molecular magnet weakly coupled to a thermal bosonic environment can be analyzed by the spin-boson model. Using the finite-temperature time-convolutionless quantum master equation, we obtain the analytical expression of the reduced density matrix of the system in the secular approximation. The suppressed and revived dynamical behavior of the spin states are presented by the oscillation of the chirality spin polarization on the time scale of the correlation time of the environment. The quantum decoherence can be effectively restrained with the help of the manipulation of local electric field and the environment spectral density function. Under the influence of the dissipation, the pointer states measured by the von Neumann entropy are calculated to manifest the entanglement property of the system-environment model.

Quantum Brownian magneto-oscillator: Role of environmental spectrum and external magnetic field in decoherence and decay processes

Asam Rajesh, Malay Bandyopadhyay

In this work, we consider the dissipative dynamics of a quantum Brownian magneto-oscillator in contact with different types of environment at zero temperature as well as at high temperatures. We derive closed-form expressions of decay rate and heating rate for the magneto-oscillator in contact with Ohmic, sub-Ohmic, and super-Ohmic environments with non-Markovian characteristics. The present study is useful in determining the relationship between the thermalization dynamics of a magneto-oscillator and different forms of environmental spectrum and external magnetic field. Although our study is limited to the short-time (Non-Markovian) and long-time (Markovian) regimes, it manifests that one can actually tune the effective coupling of the system reservoir either by tuning oscillator frequency through reservoir engineering techniques or changing external magnetic field. Thus the present work establishes the essential role of non-Markovian dissipation and the crucial role of magnetic field in the environment induced decoherence and decay processes of the dissipative magneto-oscillator.

Non-Markovian qubit dynamics in a thermal field bath: Relaxation, decoherence, and entanglement

Sanjiv Shresta, Charis Anastopoulos, Adrian A. Drǎgulescu +1 more

We study the non-Markovian dynamics of a qubit made up of a two-level atom interacting with an electromagnetic field (EMF) initially at finite temperature. Unlike most earlier studies where the bath is assumed to be fixed, we study the complete evolution of the combined qubit-EMF system, thus allowing for the coherent backaction from the bath on the qubit and the qubit on the bath in a self-consistent manner. In this way we can see the development of quantum correlations and entanglement between the system and its environment, and how that affects the decoherence and relaxation of the system. We find nonexponential decay for both the diagonal and nondiagonal matrix elements of the qubit's reduced density matrix in the pointer basis. The former shows the qubit relaxing to thermal equilibrium with the bath, while the latter shows the decoherence rate beginning at the usually predicted thermal rate, but changing to the zero-temperature value as the qubit and bath become entangled. The decoherence and relaxation rates are comparable, as in the zero-temperature case. On the entanglement of a qubit with the EMF we calculated the fidelity and the von Neumann entropy, which is a measure of the purity of the density matrix. The present more accurate non-Markovian calculations predict lower loss of fidelity and purity as compared with the Markovian results. Generally speaking, with the inclusion of quantum correlations between the qubit and its environment, the non-Markovian processes tend to slow down the drive of the system to equilibrium, prolonging the decoherence and better preserving the fidelity and purity of the system.

Non-Markovian dynamics and entanglement evolution of a qubit in a spin environment

J. Rodríguez Garzón, Rafael Gutiérrez

The dynamics of a central spin-1/2 in presence of a local magnetic field and a bath of N spin-1/2 particles is studied in the thermodynamic limit. The interaction between the spins is Heisenberg XY type and the bath is considered to be a perfect thermal reservoir. In this case, the evolution of the populations of the reduced density matrix is obtained for different temperatures. A Born approximation is made but not a Markov approximation resulting a non-Markovian dynamics. The measure of the entanglement between the spin and the bath is obtained by means of the von Neumann entropy. For low temperatures, results show that there are oscillations of populations and of the von Neumann entropy as measure of entanglement, indicating that the central spin becomes disentangled of the spins of the bath with characteristic time periods in which it is possible to extract or recuperate information. In the regime of high temperatures, the evolution shows a final maximum entangled state with entropy S = ln 2 as it is expected for a two level system. I

A perturbative non-Markovian treatment to low-temperature spin decoherence

Timothy J. Krogmeier, Anthony W. Schlimgen, Kade Head-Marsden

Molecular spins are promising candidates for quantum information science, leveraging coherent electronic spin states for quantum sensing and computation. However, the practical application of these systems is hindered by electronic spin decoherence, driven by interactions with nuclear spins in the molecule and the surrounding environment at low temperatures. Predicting dephasing dynamics remains a formidable challenge due to the complexity of the spin bath. In this work, we develop a non-Markovian time-convolutionless master equation to treat an electronic spin coupled to a nuclear-spin bath. By relating ab initio electronic structure parameters directly to the decoherence dynamics, we provide a framework that accounts for pure dephasing in the low-temperature limit. We apply this method to a series of molecular qubit candidates and demonstrate good agreement with experimental relaxation trends. This approach offers a computationally efficient path for the prediction of low-temperature decoherence trends in molecular spin systems.

Non-Markovianity and Indivisible Quantum dynamics of a Apin- S System

Xiang Hao, Xuefen Xu, Shiqun Zhu

Using a measure for the divisibility of a dynamical map, we study the non-Markovian character of a quantum evolution of a spin-S system, which is in an external field and weakly coupled to a bosonic bath with a certain temperature. The finite-temperature dynamics of the open system is obtained by the time-convolutionless master equation in the secular approximation. Besides the influence of the environmental spectral density function, the external field and low temperatures can affect the quantum non-Markovianity. It is found out that the non-Markovian feature of a dynamical map of a high-dimensional spin system is noticeable in contrast to that of a low-dimension spin system.
