Multipartite quantum correlations in open quantum systems

Abstract

In this paper, we present a measure of quantum correlation for a multipartite system, defined as the sum of the correlations for all possible partitions. Our measure can be defined for quantum discord (QD), geometric quantum discord or even for entanglement of formation (EOF). For tripartite pure states, we show that the multipartite measures for the QD and the EOF are equivalent, which allows direct comparison of the distribution and the robustness of these correlations in open quantum systems. We study dissipative dynamics for two distinct families of entanglement: a W state and a GHZ state. We show that, for the W state, the QD is more robust than the entanglement, while for the GHZ state, this is not true. It turns out that the initial genuine multipartite entanglement present in the GHZ state makes the EOF more robust than the QD.

Multipartite monogamous relations for entanglement and discord

Jonhy S. S. Ferreira, Daví Filenga, Marcio F. Cornelio +1 more

The distribution of quantum correlations in multipartite systems plays a significant role in several aspects of quantum information theory. While it is well known that these quantum correlations cannot be freely distributed, the way that they are shared in a multipartite system is an open problem even for a small set of qubits. Based on monogamylike relations between entanglement and discord for $n$-partite systems, we show how these correlations are distributed in general, determining distinct equalities and inequalities to the quantum discord and the entanglement of formation for arbitrary multipartite pure states.

Multipartite quantum correlations in even and odd spin coherent states

Mohammed Daoud A, R. Ahl Laamara, W. Kaydi

The key ingredient of the approach presented in this paper is the factorization property of SU (2) coherent states upon the splitting or decay of a quantum spin system. In this picture, the even and odd spin coherent states are viewed as comprising two, three or more spin sub-systems. From this perspective, we investigate the multipartite quantum correlations defined as the sum of the correlations of all possible bi-partitions. The pairwise quantum correlations are quantified by entanglement of formation and quantum discord. Special attention is devoted to tripartite splitting schemes. We explicitly derive the sum of the entanglement of formation for all possible bi-partitions. It coincides with the sum of all possible occurrences of pairwise quantum discord. The conservation relation between the distribution of entanglement of formation and quantum discord in the tripartite splitting scheme is discussed. We show that entanglement of formation and quantum discord possess the monogamy property for even spin coherent states, in contrast to odd ones which violate the monogamy relation when the overlap of the coherent states approaches unity.

Exploring multipartite quantum correlations with the square of quantum discord

Yan-Kui Bai, Na Zhang, Ming-Yong Ye +1 more

We explore the quantum correlation distribution in multipartite quantum states based on the square of quantum discord (SQD). For tripartite quantum systems, we derive the necessary and sufficient condition for the SQD to satisfy the monogamy relation. Particularly, we prove that the SQD is monogamous for three-qubit pure states, based on which a genuine tripartite quantum correlation measure is introduced. In addition, we also address the quantum correlation distributions in four-qubit pure states. As an example, we investigate multipartite quantum correlations in the dynamical evolution of multipartite cavity-reservoir systems.

QUANTUM DISCORD FOR MULTIPARTITE COHERENT STATES INTERPOLATING BETWEEN WERNER AND GREENBERGER–HORNE–ZEILINGER STATES

Mohammed Daoud A, R. Ahl Laamara

The quantum discord is used as measure of quantum correlations for two families of multipartite coherent states. The first family interpolates between generalized GHZ states and generalized Werner states. The second one is an interpolation between generalized GHZ and the ground state of the multipartite quantum system. Two inequivalent ways to split the system in a pair of qubits are introduced. The explicit expressions of quantum quantum discord in multipartite coherent states are derived. Its evaluation uses the Koashi–Winter relation in optimizing the conditional entropy. The temporal evolution of quantum correlations (quantum discord and entanglement) is also discussed.

Conservation law for distributed entanglement of formation and quantum discord

F. F. Fanchini, Marcio F. Cornelio, M. C. de Oliveira +1 more

We present a direct relation, based upon a monogamic principle, between entanglement of formation (EOF) and quantum discord (QD), showing how they are distributed in an arbitrary tripartite pure system. By extending it to a paradigmatic situation of a bipartite system coupled to an environment, we demonstrate that the EOF and the QD obey conservation relation. By means of this relation we show that in the deterministic quantum computer with one pure qubit the protocol has the ability to rearrange the EOF and the QD, which implies that quantum computation can be understood on a different basis as a coherent dynamics where quantum correlations are distributed between the qubits of the computer. Furthermore, for a tripartite mixed state we show that the balance between distributed EOF and QD results in a stronger version of the strong subadditivity of entropy.

Quantum discord for two-qubit systems

Shunlong Luo

Quantum discord, as introduced by Olliver and Zurek [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 017901 (2001)], is a measure of the discrepancy between two natural yet different quantum analogs of the classical mutual information. This notion characterizes and quantifies quantumness of correlations in bipartite states from a measurement perspective, and is fundamentally different from the various entanglement measures in the entanglement vs separability paradigm. The phenomenon of nonzero quantum discord is a manifestation of quantum correlations due to noncommutativity rather than due to entanglement, and has interesting and significant applications in revealing the advantage of certain quantum tasks. We will evaluate analytically the quantum discord for a large family of two-qubit states, and make a comparative study of the relationships between classical and quantum correlations in terms of the quantum discord. We furthermore compare the quantum discord with the entanglement of formation, and illustrate that the latter may be larger than the former, although for separable states, the entanglement of formation always vanishes and thus is less than the quantum discord.
