Abstract

A modified static exchange model is introduced, it could be useful to control the elastic s-wave scattering length in studying cold-atomic interaction. The theory includes the long-range van der Waals interaction in addition to short-range exchange force. The model is applied on Ps-H system to study the Feshbach resonances e.g. the s-wave elastic phase shifts and the corresponding cross sections at ultracold energies. These are compared with the data obtained using the static exchange model. A very interesting features are observed when we vary the interatomic separation i.e. the strength of dipole-dipole interaction.

The effect of van der Waals forces in two-atomic elastic collision

Hasi Ray

The modified static exchange model (MSEM) recently introduced by Ray [1] to study two-atomic collision processes at low and cold-energies, is used for detailed analysis of the long-range effects due to induced dipole-dipole van der Waals interaction between Ps and H atoms. The MSEM includes the non-adiabatic short-range effect due to electron-exchange and the long-range effect due to induced dynamic dipole polarisabilities of the atoms. The effective interatomic potential is highly sensitive to the minimum distance between the atoms ( ). The s-, p- and d- wave elastic phase shifts, corresponding partial cross sections, the scattering length and effective ranges are calculated and studied with the variation of the chosen least interatomic distance between them. It is found that the scattering length is highly sensitive to the effective interatomic potential that depends on the least interatomic distance. In addition the studies are made in search of Feshbach resonances. The observed interesting feature with the variation of in the triplet channel invites more accurate investigations if new physics.

Simple Theoretical Models for Resonant Cold Atom Interactions

Julienne, P S, Gao, B

Magnetically tunable scattering resonances have been used with great success for precise control of s-wave scattering lengths in ultracold atomic collisions. We describe relatively simple yet quite powerful analytic treatments of such resonances based on the analytic properties of the van der Waals long range potential. This theory can be used to characterize a number of properties of specific resonances that have been used successfully in various experiments with $^{87}$Rb, $^{85}$Rb, $^{40}$K, and $^{6}$Li. Optical Feshbach resonances are also possible and may be practical with narrow intercombination line photoassociative transitions in species like Sr and Yb.

The Elastic Collision of Two H-Like Atoms Including the Exotic Ps and Mu

Hasi Ray

Elastic collision between two H-like atoms using the ab initio static-exchange model (SEM) and a modified static-exchange model (MSEM) at cold energies are investigated in the center of mass frame considering the system as a four-body Coulomb problem where all the Coulomb interaction terms in the direct and exchange channels are treated exactly. The importance of an exact calculation to find basic physics is highlighted. In addition, the dependence of scattering length on the van der Waals interaction between the atoms and the dependence of scattering length on reduced-mass of the system are derived which is completely new information in the field of science.
