Abstract

The geometric measure of entanglement for a symmetric pure state with nonnegative amplitudes has attracted much attention. On the other hand, the spectral theory of nonnegative tensors (hypermatrices) has been developed rapidly. In this paper, we show how the spectral theory of nonnegative tensors can be applied to the study of the geometric measure of entanglement for a pure state with nonnegative amplitudes. Especially, an elimination method for computing the geometric measure of entanglement for symmetric pure multipartite qubit or qutrit states with nonnegative amplitudes is given. For symmetric pure multipartite qudit states with nonnegative amplitudes, a numerical algorithm with randomization is presented and proven to be convergent. We show that for the geometric measure of entanglement for pure states with nonnegative amplitudes, the nonsymmetric ones can be converted to the symmetric ones.

Computing the geometric measure of entanglement of multipartite pure states by means of non-negative tensors

Shenglong Hu, Liqun Qi, Guofeng Zhang

The geometric measure of entanglement for pure states has attracted much attention. On the other hand, the spectral theory of non-negative tensors (hypermatrices) has been developed rapidly. In this paper, we show how the spectral theory of non-negative tensors can be applied to the study of the geometric measure of entanglement for pure states. For symmetric pure multipartite qubit or qutrit states an elimination method is given. For symmetric pure multipartite qudit states, a numerical algorithm with randomization is presented. We also show that a nonsymmetric pure state can be augmented to a symmetric one whose amplitudes can be encoded in a non-negative symmetric tensor, so the geometric measure of entanglement can be calculated. Several examples, such as $m\mathrm{GHZ}$ states, $W$ states, inverted $W$ states, qudits, and nonsymmetric states, are used to demonstrate the power of the proposed methods. Given a pure state, one can always find a change of basis (a unitary transformation) so that all the probability amplitudes of the pure state are non-negative under the new basis. Therefore, the methods proposed here can be applied to a very wide class of multipartite pure states.

Computation of the geometric measure of entanglement for pure multiqubit states

Lin Chen, Aimin Xu, Huangjun Zhu

We provide methods for computing the geometric measure of entanglement for two families of pure states with both experimental and theoretical interests: symmetric multiqubit states with non-negative amplitudes in the Dicke basis and symmetric three-qubit states. In addition, we study the geometric measure of pure three-qubit states systematically in virtue of a canonical form of their two-qubit reduced states and derive analytical formulas for a three-parameter family of three-qubit states. Based on this result, we further show that the W state is the maximally entangled three-qubit state with respect to the geometric measure.

The geometric measure of entanglement for a symmetric pure state with non-negative amplitudes

Masahito Hayashi, Damian Markham, Mio Murao +2 more

In this paper for a class of symmetric multiparty pure states, we consider a conjecture related to the geometric measure of entanglement: “for a symmetric pure state, the closest product state in terms of the fidelity can be chosen as a symmetric product state.” We show that this conjecture is true for symmetric pure states whose amplitudes are all non-negative in a computational basis. The more general conjecture is still open.

Geometric measure for entanglement in N -qudit pure states

Ali Saif M. Hassan, Pramod S. Joag

We present a multipartite entanglement measure for $N$-qudit pure states, using the norm of the correlation tensor which occurs in the Bloch representation of the state. We compute this measure for an important class of $N$-qutrit pure states, namely, general GHZ states. We prove that this measure possesses all the essential and many desirable properties expected of a good entanglement measure, including monotonicity. We also discuss the feasibility of the experimental evaluation of this measure for an $N$-qutrit system.

New Z-Eigenvalue Localization Set for Tensor and Its Application in Entanglement of Multipartite Quantum States

Liang Xiong, Zhan-Feng Jiang, Jianzhou Liu +1 more

This study focuses on tensor Z-eigenvalue localization and its application in the geometric measure of entanglement for multipartite quantum states. A new Z-eigenvalue localization theorem and the bounds for the Z-spectral radius are derived, which are more precise than some of the existing results. On the other hand, we present theoretical bounds of the geometric measure of entanglement for a weakly symmetric multipartite quantum state with non-negative amplitudes by virtue of different distance measures. Numerical examples show that these conclusions are superior to the existing results in quantum physics in some cases.

Connections of geometric measure of entanglement of pure symmetric states to quantum state estimation

Lin Chen, Huangjun Zhu, Tzu-Chieh Wei

We study the geometric measure of entanglement (GM) of pure symmetric states related to rank 1 positive-operator-valued measures (POVMs) and establish a general connection with quantum state estimation theory, especially the maximum likelihood principle. Based on this connection, we provide a method for computing the GM of these states and demonstrate its additivity property under certain conditions. In particular, we prove the additivity of the GM of pure symmetric multiqubit states whose Majorana points under Majorana representation are distributed within a half sphere, including all pure symmetric three-qubit states. We then introduce a family of symmetric states that are generated from mutually unbiased bases and derive an analytical formula for their GM. These states include Dicke states as special cases, which have already been realized in experiments. We also derive the GM of symmetric states generated from symmetric informationally complete POVMs (SIC POVMs) and use it to characterize all inequivalent SIC POVMs in three-dimensional Hilbert space that are covariant with respect to the Heisenberg-Weyl group. Finally, we describe an experimental scheme for creating the symmetric multiqubit states studied in this article and a possible scheme for measuring the permanence of the related Gram matrix.
