Ground State Factorization of Heterogeneous Spin Models in Magnetic Fields

Abstract

The exact factorized ground state of a heterogeneous (ferrimagnetic) spin model which is composed of two spins (ρ, σ) has been presented in detail. The Hamiltonian is not necessarily translational invariant and the exchange couplings can be competing antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic arbitrarily between different sublattices to build many practical models such as dimerized and tetramerized materials and ladder compounds. The condition to get a factorized ground state is investigated for non-frustrated spin models in the presence of a uniform and a staggered magnetic field. According to the lattice model structure we have categorized the spin models in two different classes and obtained their factorization conditions. The first class contains models in which their lattice structures do not provide a single uniform magnetic field to suppress the quantum correlations. Some of these models may have a factorized ground state in the presence of a uniform and a staggered magnetic field. However, in the second class there are several spin models in which their ground state could be factorized whether a staggered field is applied to the system or not. For the latter case, in the absence of a staggered field the factorizing uniform field is unique. However, the degrees of freedom for obtaining the factorization conditions are increased by adding a staggered magnetic field.

Factorized ground state for a general class of ferrimagnets

Mohammad Rezai, A. Langari, Jahanfar Abouie

We have found the exact (factorized) ground state of a general class of ferrimagnets in the presence of a magnetic field which includes the anisotropic and long-range interactions for arbitrary dimensional space. In particular cases our model represents many spin chains with bond alternation of antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic coupling, ferrimagnetic spin ladders, and also homogeneous spin-$s$ models. The factorized ground state is a product of single-particle kets on a bipartite lattice composed of two different spins $(\ensuremath{\rho},\ensuremath{\sigma})$ which is characterized by two angles, a biangle state. The spin-wave analysis around the exact ground state shows two branch of excitations which are the origin of two dynamics of the model. The signature of these dynamics is addressed as a peak and a broaden bump in the specific heat.

Separability and ground-state factorization in quantum spin systems

S. M. Giampaolo, Gerardo Adesso, Fabrizio Illuminati

We investigate the existence and the properties of fully separable (fully factorized) ground states in quantum spin systems. Exploiting techniques of quantum information and entanglement theory, we extend a recently introduced method and construct a general, self-contained theory of ground state factorization in frustration-free quantum spin models defined on lattices in any spatial dimension and for interactions of arbitrary range. We show that, quite generally, nonexactly solvable translationally invariant models in presence of an external uniform magnetic field can admit exact, fully factorized ground state solutions. Unentangled ground states occur at finite values of the Hamiltonian parameters satisfying well-defined balancing conditions between the applied field and the interaction strengths. These conditions are analytically determined together with the type of magnetic orderings compatible with factorization and the corresponding values of the fundamental observables such as energy and magnetization. The method is applied to a series of examples of increasing complexity, including translationally invariant models with short, long, and infinite ranges of interaction, as well as systems with spatial anisotropies, in lower and higher dimensions. We also illustrate how the general method, besides yielding a large series of exact results for complex models in any dimension, recovers, as particular cases, the results previously achieved on simple models in low dimensions exploiting direct methods based on factorized mean-field ansatz.

Quantum entanglement in a mixed-spin trimer: Effects of a magnetic field and heterogeneous g factors

Zhirayr Adamyan, Vadim Ohanyan

Mixed spin-(1/2,1/2,1) trimer with two different Landé g factors and two different exchange couplings is considered. The main feature of the model is nonconserving magnetization. The Hamiltonian of the system is diagonalized analytically. We presented a detailed analysis of the ground-state properties, revealing several possible ground-state phase diagrams and magnetization profiles. The main focus is on how nonconserving magnetization affects quantum entanglement. We have found that nonconserving magnetization can bring a continuous dependence of the entanglement quantifying parameter (negativity) on the magnetic field within the same eigenstate, while for the case of uniform g factors it is a constant. The main result is an essential enhancement of the entanglement in the case of uniform couplings for one pair of spins caused by an arbitrary small difference in the values of g factors. This enhancement is robust and brings almost a sevenfold increase of the negativity. We have also found a weakening of entanglement for other cases. Thus, nonconserving magnetization offers a broad opportunity to manipulate the entanglement by means of a magnetic field.

Ground-state factorization and quantum phase transition in dimerized spin chains

Gian Luca Giorgi

We study the occurrence of ground-state factorization in dimerized $XY$ spin chains in a transverse field. Together with the usual ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic regimes, a third case emerges, with no analogous in translationally invariant systems, consisting of an antiferromagnetic Ne\'el-type ground state where pairs of spins represent the unitary cell. Then, we calculate the exact solution of the model and show that the factorizing field represent an accidental degeneracy point of the Hamiltonian. Finally, we extend the study of the existence of ground-state factorization to a more general class of models.

Exact ground states of quantum spin-2 models on the hexagonal lattice

Marc André Ahrens, Andreas Schadschneider, J. Zittartz

We construct exact nontrivial ground states of spin-2 quantum antiferromagnets on the hexagonal lattice. Using the optimum ground state approach we determine the ground state in different subspaces of a general spin-2 Hamiltonian consistent with some realistic symmetries. These states, which are not of simple product form, depend on two free parameters and can be shown to be only weakly degenerate. We find ground states with different types of magnetic order, i.e., a weak antiferromagnet with finite sublattice magnetization and a weak ferromagnet with ferrimagnetic order. For the latter it is argued that a quantum phase transition occurs within the solvable subspace.

Exact ground state of one- and two-dimensional frustrated quantum spin systems

А. А. Овчинников, V. Ya. Krivnov, Д. В. Дмитриев

We outline the recent results on the ground state for a class of one- and two-dimensional frustrated quantum spin models with competing ferro(F)- and antiferromagnetic (AF) interactions. Frustrated spin systems are known to have many interesting properties due to large quantum fluctuations. As a result of these fluctuations usual mean-field approach gives quite crude (if not false) description of these systems. Therefore, exactly solvable models are very instructive at investigations of such systems. The exact ground state wave function of proposed models has a structure of the valence-bond state (VBS) type. One of the 1D model describes the transition line between the F and AF phase. The exact singlet ground state on this line has a double-spiral ordering. Using different approximation methods we study the magnetization curve in the AF phase. The second considered set of the 1D and 2D models has an exact non-degenerate ground state with exponentially decaying spin correlations. We also proposed the 1D and 2D electronic models with exact ground state represented in terms of singlet bond functions which are the generalization of the RVB functions including ionic states.
