Abstract

We study the dissipative dynamics and the formation of entangled states in driven cascaded quantum networks, where multiple systems are coupled to a common unidirectional bath. Specifically, we identify the conditions under which emission and coherent reabsorption of radiation drives the whole network into a pure stationary state with non-trivial quantum correlations between the individual nodes. We illustrate this effect in more detail for the example of cascaded two-level systems, where we present an explicit preparation scheme that allows one to tune the whole network through 'bright' and 'dark' states associated with different multi-partite entanglement patterns. In a complementary setting consisting of cascaded nonlinear cavities, we find that two cavity modes can be driven into a non-Gaussian entangled dark state. Potential realizations of such cascaded networks with optical and microwave photons are discussed.

Chiral-dissipation-assisted generation of entanglement and asymmetric Gaussian steering in a driven cascaded quantum network

We study the dissipative dynamics and the formation of entangled states in a driven cascaded quantum network, where a cascaded double-cavity optomechanical system is coupled to a common unidirectional optical fiber. In terms of two coherent laser fields simultaneously driving the chiral coupling system, the entanglement can be effectively transferred from the light to two nanomechanical resonators (NMRs) through cavity modes based on the completely destructive interference of quantum noise. By adjusting the relative strength ratio of red- and blue-detuned pump lasers, it is found that the two NMRs can be driven into a mixed two-mode Gaussian entangled mechanical state rather than a non-Gaussian entangled dark state or a pure entangled dark state. If the frequency of the NMR is tuned to be much larger than the chiral coupled-cavity-chain damping rate, it is demonstrated that the chiral dissipative cascaded system can always realize one-way Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) steering from one mechanical oscillator to the other, while the reverse one-way EPR steering is impossible to obtain, and the reason for achieving asymmetric Gaussian steering is analyzed. Furthermore, a simple one-way EPR steering criterion based on two-photon correlation can be achieved for an arbitrary bipartite Gaussian state under the standard form of EPR steering, and the effect of mechanical thermal noise on the steering is also discussed. Moreover, the present chiral system can be realized with currently available experimental technology; therefore, we hope that it can be very helpful for potential applications in quantum computation and quantum communication.

Dissipative quantum-light-field engineering

Martin Kiffner, U. Dorner, Dieter Jaksch

We put forward a dissipative preparation scheme for strongly correlated photon states. Our approach is based on a two-photon loss mechanism that is realized via a single four-level atom inside a bimodal optical cavity. Each elementary two-photon emission event removes one photon out of each of the two modes. The dark states of this loss mechanism are given by NOON states and arbitrary superpositions thereof. We find that the steady state of the two cavity modes exhibits entanglement and, for certain parameters, a mixture of two coherent entangled states is produced. We discuss how the quantum correlations in the cavity modes and the output fields can be measured.

Generation of steady entanglement via unilateral qubit driving in bad cavities

Zhao Jin, Shi‐Lei Su, Ai‐Dong Zhu +3 more

We propose a scheme for generating an entangled state for two atoms trapped in two separate cavities coupled to each other. The scheme is based on the competition between the unitary dynamics induced by the classical fields and the collective decays induced by the dissipation of two non-local bosonic modes. In this scheme, only one qubit is driven by external classical fields, whereas the other need not be manipulated via classical driving. This is meaningful for experimental implementation between separate nodes of a quantum network. The steady entanglement can be obtained regardless of the initial state, and the robustness of the scheme against parameter fluctuations is numerically demonstrated. We also give an analytical derivation of the stationary fidelity to enable a discussion of the validity of this regime. Furthermore, based on the dissipative entanglement preparation scheme, we construct a quantum state transfer setup with multiple nodes as a practical application.

Solvable dynamics of N driven two-level atoms coupled to a dissipative cavity mode

Matteo Bina, Federico Casagrande, ALFREDO LULLI

We solve exactly the dynamics of N strongly driven two-level atoms equally coupled on resonance to a dissipative cavity mode. Analytical results are derived on decoherence, entanglement, purity, atomic correlations and cavity field mean photon number. Decoherence-free subspaces are predicted for the whole system and the N -qubit subsystem. Multi-partite entangled states and cavity cat-like states can be conditionally generated. The decay of quantum coherence and purity can be monitored by joint measurements on atomic populations. Atoms prepared in states invariant under permutation of any two components evolve within the subspace spanned by the completely symmetric Dicke states. Applications to N = 3, 4 are discussed.

Quantum cascade driving: Dissipatively mediated coherences

Shahabedin Chatraee Azizabadi, Nicolas L. Naumann, Manuel Katzer +2 more

Quantum cascaded systems offer the possibility to manipulate a target system with the quantum state of a source system. Here, we study in detail the differences between a direct quantum cascade and coherent or incoherent driving for the case of two coupled cavity-QED systems. We discuss qualitative differences between these excitations scenarios, which are particularly strong for higher-order photon-photon correlations: ${g}^{(n)}(0)$ with $n>2$. Quantum cascaded systems show a behavior differing from the idealized cases of individual coherent or incoherent driving and allow one to produce qualitatively different quantum statistics. Furthermore, the quantum cascaded driving exhibits an interesting mixture of quantum coherent and incoherent excitation dynamics. We develop a measure where the two regimes intermix and quantify these differences via experimentally accessible higher-order photon correlations.

Dissipative stabilization of entangled cat states using a driven Bose-Hubbard dimer

Mikhail Mamaev, Luke C. G. Govia, Aashish A. Clerk

We analyze a modified Bose-Hubbard model, where two cavities having on-site Kerr interactions are subject to two-photon driving and correlated dissipation. We derive an exact solution for the steady state of this interacting driven-dissipative system, and use it show that the system permits the preparation and stabilization of pure entangled non-Gaussian states, so-called entangled cat states. Unlike previous proposals for dissipative stabilization of such states, our approach requires only a linear coupling to a single engineered reservoir (as opposed to nonlinear couplings to two or more reservoirs). Our scheme is within the reach of state-of-the-art experiments in circuit QED.
