Some orthogonal polynomials arising from coherent states

Abstract

We explore in this paper some orthogonal polynomials which are naturally associated to certain families of coherent states, often referred to as nonlinear coherent states in the quantum optics literature. Some examples turn out to be known orthogonal polynomials but in many cases we encounter a general class of new orthogonal polynomials for which we establish several qualitative results.

Associated special functions and coherent states

Nicolae Cotfas

A hypergeometric type equation satisfying certain conditions defines either a finite or an infinite system of orthogonal polynomials. We present in a unified and explicit way all these systems of orthogonal polynomials, the associated special functions and some systems of coherent states. This general formalism allows us to extend some results known only in particular cases.

Representations of Coherent States in Non-orthogonal Bases

S. Twareque Ali, R. Roknizadeh, Mohammad Kazem Tavassoly

Abstract. Starting with the canonical coherent states, we demonstrate that all the so-called nonlinear coherent states, used in the physical literature, as well as large classes of other generalized coherent states, can be obtained by changes of bases in the underlying Hilbert space. This observation leads to an interesting duality between pairs of generalized coherent states, bringing into play a Gelfand triple of (rigged) Hilbert spaces. Moreover, it is shown that in each dual pair of families of nonlinear coherent states, at least one family is related to a (generally) non-unitary projective representation of the Weyl-Heisenberg group, which can then be thought of as characterizing the dual pair. 1.

Some integrable systems in nonlinear quantum optics

Maciej Horowski, Anatol Odzijewicz, Agnieszka Tereszkiewicz

In the paper we investigate the theory of quantum optical systems. As an application we integrate and describe the quantum optical systems which are generically related to the classical orthogonal polynomials. The family of coherent states related to these systems is constructed and described. Some applications are also presented.

Research Article Orthogonal polynomials attached to coherent states for the symmetric Pöschl–Teller oscillator

Khalid Ahbli, Patrick Kayupe Kikodio, Zouhaı̈r Mouayn

We consider a one-parameter family of nonlinear coherent states by replacing the factorial in coefficients zn/n! of the canonical coherent states by a specific generalized factorial xnγ!, γ≥0. These states are superposition of eigenstates of the Hamiltonian with a symmetric Pöschl–Teller potential depending on a parameter ν>1. The associated Bargmann-type transform is defined for γ=ν. Some results on the infinite square well potential are also derived. For some different values of γ, we discuss two sets of orthogonal polynomials that are naturally attached to these coherent states.

Generalized complex Hermite polynomials with associated nonlinear coherent states

Khalid Ahbli, Fouzia El Wassouli, Zouhaı̈r Mouayn

While dealing with a class of generalized complex Hermite polynomials, we discuss some of their basic properties and we give operational formulae of Burchnall-type. New results, including a Nielsen identity, a generating function and a Runge addition formula are derived. These polynomials may also be used to define a set of nonlinear coherent states for the harmonic oscillator. They may also be viewed as eigenfunctions of a Landau-type operator.
