Abstract

We present a new exactly solvable Hamiltonian with a separable pairing interaction and nondegenerate single-particle energies. It is derived from the hyperbolic family of Richardson-Gaudin models and possesses two free parameters, one related to an interaction cutoff and the other to the pairing strength. These two parameters can be adjusted to give an excellent reproduction of Gogny self-consistent mean-field calculations in the Hartree-Fock basis.

New realizations of the Richardson-Gaudin models in nuclear physics: The hyperbolic model

J. Dukelsky, Sergio Lerma-Hernández

The exact solution of the SU(2) pairing Hamiltonian with non-degenerate single particle orbits was introduced by Richardson in the early sixties. Since then it has been extended to several families of integrable models, called the Richardson-Gaudin (RG) models. In particular, the rational family of integrable RG models has been widely applied to mesoscopic systems like small grains, quantum dots and nuclear systems where finite size effects play an important role. We introduce these families of integrable models and then we describe a new separable pairing Hamiltonian derived from the hyperbolic family that provides an excellent reproduction of Gogny self-consistent mean-field calculations for heavy nuclei.

New Generalizations of the Richardson-Gaudin Models

J. Dukelsky

We discuss the extension of the Richardson‐Gaudin models along two lines. We £rst describe a new family of exactly solvable atom‐molecule Hamiltonians obtained by coupling a bosonic mode to the rational family. We then present the generalization of the Richardson‐Gaudin models to any simple Lie algebra. As an example of relevance to nuclear structure, we show the exact solution of the T=1 pairing Hamiltonian with non‐degenerate single‐particle energies.

Richardson-Gaudin models: the hyperbolic family

J. Dukelsky, Stefan Rombouts, Gerardo Ortíz

We show that the hyperbolic family of Richardson-Gaudin models could describe p-wave superfluids in two dimensional lattices. The analysis of the exact solution reveals an exotic phase diagram with a third order quantum phase transition. Moreover, we propose a separable integrable pairing Hamiltonian within the same family that could be useful to describe exactly superconductivity in heavy nuclei.

Exactly solvable Richardson–Gaudin models and their applications

Stuart Pittel, J. Dukelsky

We first show that the quantum pairing problem can be mapped exactly on to a classical electrostatic problem in two dimensions and then use this analogy to obtain a pictorial representation of how superconductivity arises in a finite fermionic system. Specific application to the nuclei 114–116 Sn suggests some new insight into the evolution of pairing correlations in a quantum system with few active particles. We also summarize other recent work on exactly solvable pairing models, including their applications in a wide variety of strongly correlated quantum systems.

Exact Solution of the Spin-Isospin Proton-Neutron Pairing Hamiltonian

Sergio Lerma-Hernández, B. Errea, J. Dukelsky +1 more

The exact solution of the proton-neutron isoscalar-isovector (T=0,1) pairing Hamiltonian with nondegenerate single-particle orbits and equal pairing strengths is presented for the first time. The Hamiltonian is a particular case of a family of integrable SO(8) Richardson-Gaudin models. The exact solution of the T=0,1 pairing Hamiltonian is reduced to a problem of 4 sets of coupled nonlinear equations that determine the spectral parameters of the complete set of eigenstates. The microscopic structure of individual eigenstates is analyzed in terms of evolution of the spectral parameters in the complex plane for a system of A=80 nucleons. The spectroscopic trends of the exact solutions are discussed in terms of generalized rotations in isospace.

Generalized Richardson-Gaudin Nuclear Models

J. Dukelsky, V. G. Gueorguiev, P. Van Isacker

The exact solvability of several nuclear models with non-degenerate single-particle energies is outlined and leads to a generalization of integrable Richardson-Gaudin models, like the $su(2)$-based fermion pairing, to any simple Lie algebra. As an example, the $so(5)\sim sp(4)$ model of T=1 pairing is discussed and illustrated for the case of $^{64}$Ge with non-degenerate single-particle energies.
