Abstract

We communicate results on correlation functions for the spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain in two particularly important cases: (a) for the infinite chain at arbitrary finite temperature T, and (b) for finite chains of arbitrary length L in the ground state. In both cases we present explicit formulas expressing the short-range correlators in a range of up to seven lattice sites in terms of a single function ω encoding the dependence of the correlators on T (L). These formulas allow us to obtain accurate numerical values for the correlators and derived quantities like the entanglement entropy. By calculating the low T (large L) asymptotics of ω we show that the asymptotics of the static correlation functions at any finite distance are T(2) (1/L(2)) terms. We obtain exact and explicit formulas for the coefficients for up to eight sites.

Short-distance thermal correlations in the XXZ chain

Herman E. Boos, Jens Damerau, Frank Göhmann +2 more

Recent studies have revealed much of the mathematical structure of the static correlation functions of the XXZ chain. Here we use the results of those studies in order to work out explicit examples of short-distance correlation functions in the infinite chain. We compute two-point functions ranging over 2, 3 and 4 lattice sites as functions of the temperature and the magnetic field for various anisotropies in the massless regime −1 < ∆ < 1. It turns out that the new formulae are numerically efficient and allow us to obtain the correlations functions over the full parameter range with arbitrary precision.

Short-distance thermal correlations in the massive XXZ chain

Frank Göhmann, Andreas Klümper, Fachbereich C Physik

We explore short-distance static correlation functions in the infinite XXZ chain using previously derived formulae which represent the correlation functions in factorized form. We compute two-point functions ranging over 2, 3 and 4 lattice sites as functions of the temperature and the magnetic field in the massive regime ∆> 1, extending our previous results to the full parameter plane of the antiferromagnetic chain ( ∆> −1 and arbitrary field h). The factorized formulae are numerically efficient and allow for taking the isotropic limit ( ∆ = 1) and the Ising limit ( ∆ = ∞). At the critical field separating the fully polarized phase from the Néel phase, the Ising chain possesses exponentially many ground states. The residual entropy is lifted by quantum fluctuations for large but finite ∆ inducing unexpected crossover phenomena in the correlations. 1

Exact Calculation of Correlation Functions for Spin-1/2 Heisenberg Chain

Masahiro Shiroishi, Minoru Takahashi

We review the recent progresses of the exact calculation of the correlation functions for the spin-1/2 Heisenberg XXX chain as well as the anisotropic XXZ chain. The spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain is exactly solvable by Bethe ansatz. Nevertheless the exact calculation of the correlation functions is still a very difficult problem in general. However, the recent theoretical developments have enabled us to derive the explicit analytical forms of some correlation functions in short range. For example, polynomial representations in terms of the one-dimensional integrals are obtained for the correlation functions of the XXZ chain up to four lattice sites. For the special case of the XXX chain, the correlation functions are further calculated up to five lattice sites.

Temperature dependence of spin correlation functions in the isotropic Heisenberg model

Kapil Kumar Meena

The thermal evolution of equal-time spin correlations in the antiferromagnetic isotropic spin-1/2 Heisenberg chain is examined by full exact diagonalization of a ten-site periodic cluster. The calculation retains the complete spectrum and evaluates canonical ensemble averages without decoupling approximations. Correlations through the maximum independent separation are reported over 0.10 ≤ kBT/J ≤ 5. The low-temperature state displays the expected alternating antiferromagnetic pattern and appreciable correlations across the finite ring. Heating suppresses the magnitude of every nonlocal correlator, with longer-range terms disappearing first. The nearest-neighbour correlation approaches the high-temperature limit continuously, while an effective finite-cluster correlation length falls rapidly around kBT/J of order unity. Low- and high-temperature consistency checks, SU (2) symmetry, and comparison with Bethe-ansatz expectations are used to validate the computation. The results provide a compact reproducible reference for interpreting thermal loss of short-range order, while clearly separating finite-size numerical evidence from thermodynamic-limit conclusions.

Correlation lengths of the repulsive one-dimensional Bose gas

Ovidiu I. Pâţu, Andreas Klümper

We investigate the large-distance asymptotic behavior of the static density-density and field-field correlation functions in the one-dimensional Bose gas at finite temperature. The asymptotic expansions of the Bose gas correlators are obtained performing a specific continuum limit in the similar low-temperature expansions of the longitudinal and transversal correlation functions of the $XXZ$ spin chain. In the lattice system the correlation lengths are computed as ratios of the largest and next-largest eigenvalues of the $XXZ$ spin chain quantum transfer matrix. In both cases, lattice and continuum, the correlation lengths are expressed in terms of solutions of Yang-Yang type [C. N. Yang and C. P. Yang, J. Math. Phys. 10, 1151 (1969)] nonlinear integral equations which are easily implementable numerically.
