Abstract

The Aharonov-Bohm effect including spin-noncommutative effects is considered. At linear order in $\ensuremath{\theta}$, the magnetic field is gauge invariant although spatially strongly anisotropic. Despite this anisotropy, the Schr\"odinger-Pauli equation is separable through successive unitary transformations and the exact solution is found. The scattering amplitude is calculated and compared with the usual case. In the noncommutative Aharonov-Bohm case the differential cross section is independent of $\ensuremath{\theta}$.

Time-dependent Aharonov–Bohm effect on the noncommutative space

Kai Ma, Jian-Hua Wang, Huan-Xiong Yang

We study the time-dependent Aharonov–Bohm effect on the noncommutative space. Because there is no net Aharonov–Bohm phase shift in the time-dependent case on the commutative space, therefore, a tiny deviation from zero indicates new physics . Based on the Seiberg–Witten map we obtain the gauge invariant and Lorentz covariant Aharonov–Bohm phase shift in general case on noncommutative space. We find there are two kinds of contribution: momentum-dependent and momentum-independent corrections. For the momentum-dependent correction, there is a cancellation between the magnetic and electric phase shifts, just like the case on the commutative space. However, there is a non-trivial contribution in the momentum-independent correction. This is true for both the time-independent and time-dependent Aharonov–Bohm effects on the noncommutative space. However, for the time-dependent Aharonov–Bohm effect, there is no overwhelming background which exists in the time-independent Aharonov–Bohm effect on both commutative and noncommutative space. Therefore, the time-dependent Aharonov–Bohm can be sensitive to the spatial noncommutativity. The net correction is proportional to the product of the magnetic fluxes through the fundamental area represented by the noncommutative parameter θ , and through the surface enclosed by the trajectory of charged particle. More interestingly, there is an anti-collinear relation between the logarithms of the magnetic field B and the averaged flux Φ / N ( N is the number of fringes shifted). This nontrivial relation can also provide a way to test the spatial noncommutativity. For B Φ / N ∼ 1 , our estimation on the experimental sensitivity shows that it can reach the 10 GeV scale. This sensitivity can be enhanced by using stronger magnetic field strength , larger magnetic flux, as well as higher experimental precision on the phase shift.

Anisotropic Aharonov-Bohm Effect

Riccardo Adami

Results obtained for the nonrelativistic Aharonov-Bohm effect, together with contact interactions, are presented and discussed. These results are compared with those concerning the spectrum and the scattering amplitude for two interactions separately. We use the formalism of first quantization and refer, for technical tools, to the von Neumann-Krein theory for the construction of self-adjoint extensions of symmetric operators and to scattering theory. Despite the rotational invariance of both magnetic and contact interactions, their superposition can give rise to an anisotropy effect

Aharonov–Bohm effect in noncommutative spaces

Масуд Чайчиан, Peter Prešnajder, Mohammad Mehdi Sheikh-Jabbari +1 more

The Aharonov–Bohm effect on the noncommutative plane is considered. Developing the path integral formulation of quantum mechanics, we find the propagation amplitude for a particle in a noncommutative space. We show that the corresponding shift in the phase of the particle propagator due to the magnetic field of a thin solenoid receives certain gauge invariant corrections because of the noncommutativity. Evaluating the numerical value for this correction, an upper bound for the noncommutativity parameter is obtained.

Differential scattering cross section of the non-Abelian Aharonov-Bohm effect in multiband systems

R. Németh, József Cserti

We develop a unified treatment of the non-Abelian Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect in isotropic multiband systems, namely, the scattering of particles on a gauge field corresponding to a noncommutative Lie group. We present a complex contour integral representation of the scattering states for such systems, and using their asymptotic form, we calculate the differential scattering cross section. The angular dependence of the cross section turns out to be the same as that obtained originally by Aharonov and Bohm in their seminal paper [Phys. Rev. 115, 485 (1959)], but this time, it depends on the polarization of the incoming plane wave. As an application of our theory, we perform the contour integrals for the wave functions explicitly and calculate the corresponding cross section for three nontrivial isotropic multiband systems relevant to condensed matter and particle physics. To have a deeper insight into the nature of the scattering, we plot the probability and current distributions for different incoming waves. This paper is a generalization of our recent results on the Abelian AB effect providing an extension of exactly solvable AB scattering problems.

On the noncommutative Aharonov-Bohm effects

Jian Jing, Ling-Bao Kong, Qing xiang Wang +1 more

We revisit time-independent and time-dependent Aharonov-Bohm effects in the noncommutative space-time by investigating a relativistic spin-half particle in the background of a long-thin magnetic-flux-carried solenoid. Our results show that, up to the first order of the noncommutative parameter, there are no noncommutative corrections on the AB effects for both cases.

Gauge covariance of the Aharonov–Bohm phase in noncommutative quantum mechanics

Масуд Чайчиан, Miklos Långvik, Shin Sasaki +1 more

The gauge covariance of the wave function phase factor in noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is discussed. We show that the naive path integral formulation and an approach where one shifts the coordinates of NCQM in the presence of a background vector potential leads to the gauge non-covariance of the phase factor. Due to this fact, the Aharonov–Bohm phase in NCQM which is evaluated through the path-integral or by shifting the coordinates is neither gauge invariant nor gauge covariant. We show that the gauge covariant Aharonov–Bohm effect should be described by using the noncommutative Wilson lines, what is consistent with the noncommutative Schrödinger equation. This approach can ultimately be used for deriving an analogue of the Dirac quantization condition for the magnetic monopole.
