Abstract

We present the first experimental observation of quantum fluctuation spectra in two coupled optical cavities with an injected squeezed vacuum light. The quadrature components of the reflected squeezed vacuum spectra are measured by phase-sensitive homodyne detector. The experimental results demonstrate coupled-resonator-induced transparency in the quantum regime, in which the electromagnetically-induced-transparency-like characteristic of the absorption and dispersion properties of the coupled optical cavities determines the line shape of the reflected quantum noise spectra.

Quantum properties of a triple-coupled optical cavity with injection of a squeezed vacuum field

Ke Di, Jie Ren, Wei Cui +5 more

Subject of study. A scheme of quantum manipulation in a coupled optical cavity system composed of a triple-coupled optical cavity with injection of a squeezed vacuum field is proposed. Method. The scheme of quantum manipulation in a coupled optical cavity system is based on analysis of the absorption and dispersion characteristics of the reflection in the classical field and the quantum field. Main results. It was established that the absorption and dispersion of the reflection field with different coupled intensities under the classical field show different characteristics. An electromagnetic induction transparency like effect is observed as the coupled intensities increase and becomes more and more obvious as the coupled intensities increase until the absorption curve becomes completely independent due to the strong coupled intensities. The quantum noise fluctuation corresponding to the amplitude and phase of the reflection field in the quantum field also presented different characteristics. With the increase of coupled intensities, the quantum noise fluctuation curve begins to split. At the same time, the splitting of the quantum noise fluctuation curve changes from one to three, and it completely splits into three Lorentz curves finally. Practical significance. The theoretical results of the scheme demonstrated that multiple (three times) quantum manipulation can be implemented simultaneously in a device, which provides a method for quantum dense coding.

Observation of Squeezed States Generated by Four-Wave Mixing in an Optical Cavity

R. E. Slusher, Leo W. Hollberg, Bernard Yurke +2 more

Squeezed states of the electromagnetic field have been generated by nondegenerate four-wave mixing due to Na atoms in an optical cavity. The optical noise in the cavity, comprised of primarily vacuum fluctuations and a small component of spontaneous emission from the pumped Na atoms, is amplified in one quadrature of the optical field and deamplified in the other quadrature. These quadrature components are measured with a balanced homodyne detector. The total noise level in the deamplified quadrature drops below the vacuum noise level.

Coherent effect of triple-resonant optical parametric amplification inside a cavity with injection of a squeezed vacuum field

Ke Di, Jing Zhang

In theory, we study the quantum fluctuations of the subharmonic reflected field from a triple-resonant degenerate optical parametric amplifier (OPA) inside an optical cavity. We discuss two cases, where the linewidth of the harmonic field is either much narrower or broader than the subharmonic field. Since an electromagnetically-induced-transparency (EIT)-like effect can be simulated in a triple-resonant OPA, the output spectra from a triple-resonant OPA with a squeezed vacuum input may simulate the phenomenon of the response of an EIT medium for squeezed states. This scheme can be implemented with present experimental setups.
