Abstract

The scattering solutions of the one-dimensional Schrödinger equation for the Woods–Saxon potential are obtained within the position-dependent mass formalism. The wavefunctions, transmission and reflection coefficients are calculated in terms of Heun's function. These results are also studied in detail for the constant mass case.

Dirac Particle for the Position Dependent Mass in the Generalized Asymmetric Woods-Saxon Potential

Soner Alpdoğan, Ali Havare

The one-dimensional Dirac equation with position dependent mass in the generalized asymmetric Woods-Saxon potential is solved in terms of the hypergeometric functions. The transmission and reflection coefficients are obtained by considering the one-dimensional electric current density for the Dirac particle and the equation describing the bound states is found by utilizing the continuity conditions of the obtained wave function. Also, by using the generalized asymmetric Woods-Saxon potential solutions, the scattering states are found out without making calculation for the Woods-Saxon, Hulthen, cusp potentials, and so forth, which are derived from the generalized asymmetric Woods-Saxon potential and the conditions describing transmission resonances and supercriticality are achieved. At the same time, the data obtained in this work are compared with the results achieved in earlier studies and are observed to be consistent.

Scattering, bound, and quasi-bound states of the generalized symmetric Woods-Saxon potential

B. C. Lütfüoğlu, Ferhan Akdeniz, O. Bayrak

The exact analytical solutions of the Schrödinger equation for the generalized symmetrical Woods-Saxon potential are examined for the scattering, bound, and quasi-bound states in one dimension. The reflection and transmission coefficients are analytically obtained. Then, the correlations between the potential parameters and the reflection-transmission coefficients are investigated, and a transmission resonance condition is derived. Occurrence of the transmission resonance has been shown when incident energy of the particle is equal to one of the resonance energies of the quasi-bound states.

Scattering of a Klein-Gordon particle by a Woods-Saxon potential

Clara Rojas, Vı́ctor M. Villalba

We solve the Klein-Gordon equation in the presence of a spatially one-dimensional Woods-Saxon potential. The scattering solutions are obtained in terms of hypergeometric functions and the condition for the existence of transmission resonances is derived. It is shown how the zero-reflection condition depends on the shape of the potential.

The Woods–Saxon potential in the Dirac equation

Piers Kennedy

The two-component approach to the one-dimensional Dirac equation is applied to the Woods–Saxon potential. The scattering and bound state solutions are derived and the conditions for a transmission resonance (when the transmission coefficient is unity) and supercriticality (when the particle bound state is at E = − m ) are then derived. The square potential limit is discussed. The recent result that a finite-range symmetric potential barrier will have a transmission resonance of zero momentum when the corresponding well supports a half-bound state at E = − m is demonstrated.

POTENTIAL REPRESENTATION METHOD FOR THE SCHRÖDINGER EQUATION

Arvydas Juozapas Janavičius, Donatas Jurgaitis, Sigita Turskienė

A general solution of the Schrödinger equation in the potential representation has been obtained in the form of integral equations. In this representation, the wave function for positive and negative energies or bound states can be expressed as a product of the unperturbed solution for model potential and the function which depends on the additional potential or potential perturbation. Here we have proved that this method is equivalent to the method of variation of constants for negative energies. The linearly independent solutions of Schrödinger equation for harmonic oscillator potential have been obtained for derivation of integral equations, which are used for finding eigenfunctions and eigenvalues for Woods–Saxon potential. Eigenvalues obtained by numerical iterations of these integral equations are in good agreement with results obtained by the discretization method. The kernels of the obtained integral equations are proportional to the perturbation or difference of Woods–Saxon and harmonic oscillator potentials.

An exactly soluble Schrödinger equation with smooth position-dependent mass

Liès Dekar, L. Chétouani, Théophile F. Hammann

The one-dimensional generalized Schrödinger equation for a system with smooth potential and mass step is resolved exactly. The wave function depends on the Heun’s function, which is a solution of a second-order Fuchsian equation with four singularities. The behavior of the transmission coefficient as a function of energy is compared to that of the case of an abrupt potential and mass step. Two limiting cases are also studied: when the width of the mass step is vanishing, and when the smooth potential and mass step tend to an abrupt potential and mass step.
