Abstract

A photonic crystal fiber based source of photon pairs in symmetric factorable state is experimentally demonstrated. The idler and signal photons, with almost the same bandwidth, are centering at 807.5 nm and 1364.1 nm, respectively. The property of the spectral de-correlation is confirmed by measuring the correlation dependence of photon pairs upon the spectra of pump, signal and idler photons.

Photonic Crystal Fiber Source of Quantum Correlated Photon Pairs in the 1550 nm Telecom Band

Cui Liang, Xiaoying Li, Fan Hai-Yang +2 more

A source of quantum correlated photon pairs in the 1550nm telecom band obtained by a pumping 11m photonic crystal fiber with 10 ps pulse trains is experimentally demonstrated. We investigate how the birefringence of the fiber influences the purity of the photon pairs. We also present the frequency correlation of the signal and idler photon pairs. The experimental results are useful for developing a compact source of photon pairs well suited for quantum communication.

Wavelength Tunable Source of Correlated Photon Pairs Based on Photonic Crystal Fiber

Jie Su, Liang Cui, Xiaoying Li

Quantum-correlated photon pairs with tunable wavelength are highly desirable in a number of quantum technologies. In this letter, we demonstrate a wavelength tunable source of the correlated photon pairs based on pulse-pumped spontaneous four-wave mixing in photonic-crystal fiber. The wavelengths of the correlated signal and idler photons can be continuously tuned at room temperature by adjusting the wavelength of pump originating from an ytterbium-doped fiber laser. The tuning range of the idler photons is 757-880 nm and the range of the signal photons is 1310-1610 nm, which covers the 1310- and 1550-nm telecom bands.

Generation of correlated photon pairs in micro/nano-fibers

Xiaoying Li, Liang Cui, Cheng Guo +4 more

Based on the spontaneous four wave mixing in micro/nano-fiber (MNF), we report the generation of quantum-correlated photon pairs. The wavelengths of the signal and idler photons are in the 1310 nm and 851 nm bands, respectively. The measured ratio between the coincidence and accidental coincidence rates of signal and idler photons is up to 530. Moreover, we characterize the spectral property of the signal photons in the wavelength range of 1270-1610 nm. The results reveal that the bandwidth of the photon pairs is much greater than the theoretically expected value due to the inhomogeneity of the MNF; while the spectrum of Raman scattering in MNF is different from that in conventional optical fibers and photonic crystal fibers, which may originate from the heating used for fabricating the MNF. Our investigation shows that the MNF is a promising candidate for developing the sources of quantum light in micro- or nanometer-scales, and the spectral property of photon pairs can be used to non-invasively test the diameter and homogeneity of the MNF.

Spectral properties of photon pairs generated by spontaneous four-wave mixing in inhomogeneous photonic crystal fibers

Liang Cui, Xiaoying Li, Ningbo Zhao

The photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is one of the excellent media for generating photon pairs via spontaneous four-wave mixing. Here we study how the inhomogeneity of PCFs affect the spectral properties of photon pairs from both the theoretical and experimental aspects. The theoretical model shows that the photon pairs born in different places of the inhomogeneous PCF are coherently superposed, and a modulation in the broadened spectrum of phase-matching function will appear, which prevents the realization of spectral factorable photon pairs. In particular, the inhomogeneity induced modulation can be examined by measuring the spectrum of the individual signal or idler field when the asymmetric group-velocity matching condition is approximately fulfilled. Our experiments are performed by tailoring the spectrum of pulsed pump to satisfy the specified phase-matching condition. The observed spectra of individual signal photons, which are produced from different segments of the 1.9 m inhomogeneous PCF, agree with the theoretical predictions. The investigations are not only useful for fiber-based quantum state engineering, but also provide a dependable method to test the homogeneity of PCF.
