Abstract

The diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center is an excellent candidate for quantum information processing, whereas entangling separate NV centers is still of great experimental challenge. We propose a one-step conditional phase flip with three NV centers coupled to a whispering-gallery mode cavity by virtue of the Raman transition and smart qubit encoding. As decoherence is much suppressed, our scheme could work for more qubits. The experimental feasibility is justified.

One-step generation of Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states of multi solid-state spin qubits

Sheng-li Ma, Fuli Li, Fuli Li

We propose a one-step scheme for the generation of Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states of multi solid-state qubits and the implementation of quantum phase gates in a system consisting of N spatially separated nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to the whispering-gallery mode (WGM) of a microsphere cavity. The proposed scheme is based on the effective electronic dipole–dipole interaction between electron spins associated with the NV centers, which is mediated by the WGM and applying external driving laser fields. As the spontaneous emission of the excited states of the NV centers is highly suppressed and the cavity mode is only virtually excited, the scheme is insensitive to decoherence.

Entanglement of separate nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to a whispering-gallery mode cavity

We present a quantum electrodynamical model involving nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to a whispering-gallery mode cavity. We consider two schemes to create the W state and Bell state, respectively. One scheme makes use of Raman transition with the cavity field virtually excited, and the other enables Bell state preparation and quantum information transfer by virtue of dark state evolution and adiabatic passage, which is tolerant to ambient noise and experimental parameter fluctuations. We justify our schemes by considering their experimental feasibility and challenge, using the currently available technology.

A Controlled Phase Gate with Nitrogen-Vacancy Centers in Nanocrystal Coupled to a Silica Microsphere Cavity

Xue Peng

We show how a controlled phase gate, induced by adiabatic passage of dark states, can be implemented with the nitrogen-vacancy defects in nanocrystal coupled to the optical whispering gallery mode in a silica microsphere cavity. The gate presented is robust to the fluctuations of the experimental parameters compared to the dynamical and geometric phases gates. The feasibility of this scheme is characterized by exact numerical simulations that incorporate various sources of experiment noise. The results demonstrate the practicality by way of current experimental technologies.

Entanglement dynamics for three nitrogen-vacancy centers coupled to a whispering-gallery-mode microcavity

Wan-Lu Song, Wanli Yang, Qiong Chen +2 more

The solid-state qubits based on diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers (NVC) are promising for future quantum information processing. We investigate the dynamics of entanglement among three NVCs coupled to a microtoroidal cavity supporting two counter-propagating whispering-gallery-modes (WGMs) in the presence of Rayleigh scattering. Our results indicate that the maximal entanglement among all the NVCs could be achieved through adjusting several key parameters, such as the scattering-induced coupling between the WGMs, the distance between the NVCs, and the NVC-WGM coupling strengths, as well as the frequency detuning between the NVC and cavity. We show that entanglement of the NVCs displays a series of damped oscillations under various experimental situations, which reflects the intricate interplay and competition between the Rayleigh scattering and the NVC-WGM coupling. The quantum dynamics of the system is obtained via solutions to the corresponding microscopic master equation, which agrees well with the numerical simulation results using the phenomenological master equation. The feasibility of our proposal is supported by the application of currently available experimental techniques.

Universal hybrid three-qubit quantum gates assisted by a nitrogen-vacancy center coupled with a whispering-gallery-mode microresonator

Tie-Jun Wang, Chuan Xi Wang

We investigate the construction of two universal three-qubit quantum gates in a hybrid system. The designed system consists of a flying photon and a stationary negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center fixed on the periphery of a whispering-gallery-mode (WGM) microresonator, with the WGM cavity coupled to tapered fibers functioning as an add-drop structure. These gate operations are accomplished by encoding the information both on the spin degree of freedom of the electron confined in the NV center and on the polarization and spatial-mode states of the flying photon, respectively. Compared with previous schemes, our proposed scheme leads to a reduction of time and resource consumption in the processing. Moreover, these gates work in a deterministic way with no extra qubits required, which is feasible with current technologies. Both proposed gate operations could be physically implemented in one step, which provides a promising approach for quantum information processing ranging from distributed quantum computation to long-distance quantum communication.
