Abstract

We investigate the critical properties of the Ising S=1/2 and S=1 model on (3,4,6,4) and (34,6) Archimedean lattices. The system is studied through the extensive Monte Carlo simulations. We calculate the critical temperature as well as the critical point exponents γ/ν, β/ν, and ν basing on finite size scaling analysis. The calculated values of the critical temperature for S=1 are kBTC/J=1.590(3), and kBTC/J=2.100(4) for (3,4,6,4) and (34,6) Archimedean lattices, respectively. The critical exponents β/ν, γ/ν, and 1/ν, for S=1 are β/ν=0.180(20), γ/ν=1.46(8), and 1/ν=0.83(5), for (3,4,6,4) and 0.103(8), 1.44(8), and 0.94(5), for (34,6) Archimedean lattices. Obtained results differ from the Ising S = 1/2 model on (3,4,6,4), (34,6) and square lattice. The evaluated effective dimensionality of the system for S =1 are Deff =1.82(4), for (3,4,6,4), and Deff=1.64(5) for (34,6).

Universality of the Ising and the S=1 model on Archimedean lattices: A Monte Carlo determination

Anastasios Malakis, Gül Gülpınar, Yenal Karaaslan +2 more

The Ising models S=1/2 and S=1 are studied by efficient Monte Carlo schemes on the (3,4,6,4) and the (3,3,3,3,6) Archimedean lattices. The algorithms used, a hybrid Metropolis-Wolff algorithm and a parallel tempering protocol, are briefly described and compared with the simple Metropolis algorithm. Accurate Monte Carlo data are produced at the exact critical temperatures of the Ising model for these lattices. Their finite-size analysis provide, with high accuracy, all critical exponents which, as expected, are the same with the well-known 2D Ising model exact values. A detailed finite-size scaling analysis of our Monte Carlo data for the S=1 model on the same lattices provides very clear evidence that this model obeys, also very well, the 2D Ising model critical exponents. As a result, we find that recent Monte Carlo simulations and attempts to define effective dimensionality for the S=1 model on these lattices are misleading. Accurate estimates are obtained for the critical amplitudes of the logarithmic expansions of the specific heat for both models on the two Archimedean lattices.

Critical properties of the three-dimensional frustrated Ising model on a cubic lattice

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, I. K. Kamilov, Рамазанов Магомедшейх Курбанович

The critical properties of the three-dimensional fully frustrated Ising model on a cubic lattice are investigated by the Monte Carlo method. The critical exponents α (heat capacity), γ (susceptibility), β (magnetization), and ν (correlation length), as well as the Fisher exponent η, are calculated in the framework of the finite-size scaling theory. It is demonstrated that the three-dimensional frustrated Ising model on a cubic lattice forms a new universality class of the critical behavior.

Critical behavior of a cubic-lattice 3D Ising model for systems with quenched disorder

Akai Kurbanovich Murtazaev, Ibragimkhan K. Kamilov, Albert Babaevich Babaev

A Monte Carlo method is applied to simulate the static critical behavior of a cubic-lattice 3D Ising model for systems with quenched disorder. Numerical results are presented for the spin concentrations of p = 1.0, 0.95, 0.9, 0.8, 0.6 on L × L × L lattices with L = 20–60 under periodic boundary conditions. The critical temperature is determined by the Binder cumulant method. A finite-size scaling technique is used to calculate the static critical exponents α, β, γ, and ν (for specific heat, susceptibility, magnetization, and correlation length, respectively) in the range of p under study. Universality classes of critical behavior are discussed for three-dimensional diluted systems.

Critical Exponents of Ising-Like Heisenberg Antiferromagnets on the Hexagonal Lattice

Seizo Watarai, Seiji Miyashita

Critical properties of the two successive phase transitions of Ising-like Heisenberg antiferromagnets on the hexagonal lattice are examined by the Monte Carlo method. In order to obtain the critical exponents, the finite size scaling methods are used for the lattice sizes of L =18 ∼ 48. Using the reweighting Monte Carlo method, the exponents at the higher critical temperature are estimated as 1/ν=1.481±0.019 and γ/ν=1.980±0.016, which agree with those of the 3DXY model. At the lower critical temperature, standard procedure of the reweighting method does not give values of the exponents with satisfactory precision. Thus we estimate the exponents carefully with aid of the ordinary Monte Carlo method at various temperatures near T c . The values of 1/ν≃ 1.48±0.006 and γ/ν≃1.97±0.050 are obtained and we conclude that those are consistent with the universality class of the 3DXY model.

Accurate Monte Carlo critical exponents for Ising lattices

J. G. García, Julio A. Gonzalo, Manuel I. Marqués

A careful Monte Carlo investigation of the phase transition very close to the critical point (T -> Tc, H -> 0) in relatively large d = 3, s = 1/2 Ising lattices did produce critical exponents beta = 0.3126(4) =~ 5/16, delta^{-1} = 0.1997(4) =~ 1/5 and gamma_{3D} = 1.253(4) =~ 5/4. Our results indicate that, within experimental error, they are given by simple fractions corresponding to the linear interpolations between the respective two-dimensional (Onsager) and four-dimensional (mean field) critical exponents. An analysis of our inverse susceptibility data chi^{-1}(T) vs. /T - Tc/ shows that these data lead to a value of gamma_{3D} compatible with gamma' = gamma and Tc = 4.51152(12), while gamma values obtained recently by high and low temperature series expansions and renormalization group methods are not.

Critical Properties of a Spin-3/2 Ising Model on a Square Lattice

Norihiro Tsushima, Yasushi Honda, Tsuyoshi Horiguchi

We investigate a spin-3/2 Ising model on a square lattice by using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations and a density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) method. We obtain phase diagrams of the ground state. We carried out the MC simulations in order to calculate the critical temperature and the critical exponent η. We estimate the critical exponents ν, α and γ by using a finite size scaling analysis. We also calculate the critical temperature, the central charge c and the critical exponent ν by using the DMRG method. From the results obtained by the MC simulations and by the DMRG method, we discuss a universality class of the system. It is found that the values of critical exponents are determined by means of the degeneracy of the ground state. This result suggests that the universality does not hold for the spin-3/2 Ising model. Furthermore we find a possibility of a breakdown of the hyperscaling law. We also confirm that the ferrimagnetic phase exists in a parameter region where the ground state has a fourfold degeneracy, and that a transition between the ferrimagnetic phase and the ferromagnetic phase exists in addition to that between the ferromagnetic phase and the paramagnetic phase.
