Abstract

We propose a scheme for the deterministic coherent manipulation of two atomic qutrits, trapped in separate cavities coupled through a short optical fibre or optical resonator. We study such a system in the regime of dispersive atom-field interactions, where the dynamics of atoms, cavities and fibre operates through virtual population of both the atomic excited states and photonic states in the cavities and fibre. We show that the resulting effective dynamics allows for the creation of robust qutrit entanglement, and thoroughly investigate the influence of imperfections and dissipation, due to atomic spontaneous emission and photon leakage, on the entanglement of the two qutrits state.

Generation of entanglement between two spatially separated atoms via dispersive atom–field interaction

Xin‐You Lü, Liu-Gang Si, Meng Wang +2 more

Based on the dispersive atom–field interaction, a scheme is proposed for deterministically generating entanglement between two Λ-type atoms, which are trapped individually in two spatially separated cavities coupled by an optical fibre. In the present scheme, it is found that the atomic spontaneous decay and photon leakage out of the fibre can be efficiently suppressed via choosing appropriately the frequency detuning of atom–field and the coupling intensity of cavity–fibre, respectively. The influence of photon leakage out of the cavities is also discussed, and the strictly numerical simulation shows that our proposal is good enough to demonstrate the generation of entanglement between two distant atoms with high fidelity.

Robust generation of qutrit entanglement via adiabatic passage of dark states

Zhen‐Biao Yang, Huai‐Zhi Wu, Zheng Shi-Biao

We propose a scheme for the deterministic generation of qutrit entanglement for two atoms trapped in an optical cavity. Taking advantage of the adiabatic passage, the operation is immune to atomic spontaneous emission as the atomic excited states are never populated; under certain conditions, the probability that the cavity is excited is negligible. We also study the influences of the dissipation due to the atomic spontaneous emission and cavity decay.

We propose to deterministically realize the qutrit—qutrit maximal entanglement for two atoms held in separate cavities coupled by an optical resonator. We study such a system in the resonant regime and show that the laser-driven resonant dynamics allow for the fast and robust creation of qutrit—qutrit entanglement.

Deterministic generation of a three-dimensional entangled state via quantum Zeno dynamics

Wenan Li, Guang-Yao Huang

A scheme is proposed for the generation of a three-dimensional entangled state for two atoms trapped in a cavity via quantum Zeno dynamics. Because the scheme is based on the resonant interaction, the time required to produce entanglement is very short compared with the dispersive protocols. We show that the resulting effective dynamics allows for the creation of robust qutrit-qutrit entanglement. The influence of various decoherence processes such as spontaneous emission and photon loss on the fidelity of the entangled state is investigated. Numerical results show that the scheme is robust against the cavity decay since the evolution of the system is restricted to a subspace with null-excitation cavity fields. Furthermore, the present scheme has been generalized to realize $N$-dimensional entanglement for two atoms.

Robust Generation of Qutrit-Qutrit Entanglement through a Single Resonant Interaction Assisted by Moderate Driving

Huai‐Zhi Wu, Zhen‐Biao Yang

We propose to engineer qutrit-qutrit entanglement through resonant atom-cavity interaction assisted by moderate laser driving, study two parameter regimes, respectively, of asymmetric atom-laser coupling and of asymmetric atom-cavity coupling, and find that both the coupling regimes possess the advantage of short operation time, compared with the previous ones achieved by dispersive interaction, adiabatic passage, and even quantum Zeno dynamics. We check numerically the influences of the parameter fluctuations and dissipation on the scheme and show it to be robust. The scheme can also be generalized to other physical systems such as the ion trap.

Remote Generation of Entanglement for Individual Atoms via Optical Fibres

Yanqing Guo, Zhong Hai-yang, Yinghui Zhang +1 more

The generation of atomic entanglement is discussed in a system that atoms are trapped in separate cavities which are connected via optical fibres. Two distant atoms can be projected to Bell-state by synchronized turning off of the local laser fields and then performing a single quantum measurement by a distant controller. The distinct advantage of this scheme is that it works in a regime where Δ ≈ κ ≫ g, which makes the scheme insensitive to cavity strong leakage. Moreover, the fidelity is not affected by atomic spontaneous emission.
