Compatibility and decompositions of effects

Sylvia Pulmannová

Compatibility relations in effect algebras and their connections with refinements of the orthogonal partitions of unity are studied. Properties of blocks as maximal sets of compatible elements are discussed. Some special kinds of effect algebras are characterized using properties of compatibility. Using refinements, an additional structure on the effect test spaces is introduced and used to a characterization of different types of effect algebras.

Effect algebras, witness pairs and observables

Gejza Jenča

The category of effect algebras is the Eilenberg-Moore category for the monad arising from the free-forgetful adjunction between categories of bounded posets and orthomodular posets. In the category of effect algebras, an observable is a morphism whose domain is a Boolean algebra. The characterization of subsets of ranges of observables is an open problem. For an interval effect algebra E, a witness pair for a subset of S is an object living within E that "witnesses existence" of an observable whose range includes S. We prove that there is an adjunction between the poset of all witness pairs of E and the category of all partially inverted E-valued observables.

ON SPECTRAL THEORY IN EFFECT ALGEBRAS

Eissa D. Habil, Hossam F. Abu Lamdy

If one supposes a quantum logic Lto be a ˙-effect algebra, then the observables on Lare identified with the L-valued measures defined on the Borel subsets of the real line. In this structure (and without the aid of Hilbert spaceformalism) we show that (1) the spectrum of an observable Acan be completely characterized by studying theobservable (A )
