Abstract

We develop an architecture for distributed quantum computation using quantum bus of plasmonic circuits and spin qubits in self-assembled quantum dots. Deterministic quantum gates between two distant spin qubits can be reached by using an adiabatic approach in which quantum dots couple with highly detuned plasmon modes in a metallic nanowire. Plasmonic quantum bus offers a robust and scalable platform for quantum optics experiments and the development of on-chip quantum networks composed of various quantum nodes, such as quantum dots, molecules and nanoparticles.

Entanglement generation and quantum state transfer between two quantum dot molecules mediated by quantum bus of plasmonic circuits

Mu-Tian Cheng, Xiao-San Ma, Yaqin Luo +2 more

We investigate theoretically entanglement generation between two distant quantum dot molecules (QDMs) mediated by quantum bus of metal nanoring with surface plasmon polaritons. We show that the two QDMs can be in an entangled state by adjusting the external gate voltage and the coupling strength between the QDMs and the surface plasmon polaritons. The quantum state transfer between the two QDMs is also discussed. Our scheme may find applications in on-chip quantum networks and integrated optoelectronics devices.

Spin qubit gates via phonon buses in electron nanowires

Dylan Lewis, Roopayan Ghosh, Sanjeev Kumar +4 more

Scalable architectures for quantum computing using semiconductor quantum dots require interactions between qubits beyond adjacent quantum dots. Here, we propose using nanowires of electrons to mediate the interaction between two quantum dots. Virtual phonons in the linear chain of electrons can mediate an interaction that gives rise to effective spin-spin coupling of the electrons in distant quantum dots. We find coupling strengths of more than 30 MHz for experimentally realisable parameters in GaAs quantum dots.

Quantum emitters coupled to surface plasmons of a nanowire: A Green’s function approach

David Dzsotjan, Anders Søndberg Sørensen, Michael Fleischhauer

We investigate a system consisting of a single, as well as two emitters strongly coupled to surface plasmon modes of a nanowire using a Green's function approach. Explicit expressions are derived for the spontaneous decay rate into the plasmon modes and for the atom-plasmon coupling as well as a plasmon-mediated atom-atom coupling. Phenomena due to the presence of losses in the metal are discussed. In case of two atoms, we observe Dicke subradiance and superradiance resulting from their plasmon-mediated interaction. Based on this phenomenon, we propose a scheme for a deterministic two-qubit quantum gate. We also discuss a possible realization of interesting many-body Hamiltonians, such as the spin-boson model, using strong emitter-plasmon coupling.

Surface plasmons in a metal nanowire coupled to colloidal quantum dots: Scattering properties and quantum entanglement

Guang-Yin Chen, Neill Lambert, Chung-Hsien Chou +2 more

We investigate coherent single surface-plasmon transport in a metal nanowire strongly coupled to two colloidal quantum dots. Analytical expressions are obtained for the transmission and reflection coefficients by solving the corresponding eigenvalue equation. Remote entanglement of the wave functions of the two quantum dots can be created if the interdot distance is equal to a multiple half-wavelength of the surface plasmon. Furthermore, by applying classical laser pulses to the quantum dots, the entangled states can be stored in metastable states that are decoupled from the surface plasmons.

Entanglement of two distant quantum dots with the flip-flop interaction coupled to plasmonic waveguide

Myong-Chol Ko, Nam-Chol Kim, Ju-Song Ryom +2 more

The entanglement of two distant quantum dots coupled to metallic waveguide has been investigated theoretically in the presence of the flip-flop interaction with the analytic solutions of eigenvalue equations of the system. High entanglement of two quantum dots could be achieved by adjusting the direct-coupling strength of two quantum dots, the coupling strength of quantum dots with surface plasmon along metallic waveguide, the group velocity of surface plasmon and detuning. The discussed system with the flip-flop interaction provides us with a rich way to realize the quantum device for quantum information processing, such as quantum communication and quantum computation.

Detuning-determined qubit-qubit entanglement mediated by plasmons: An effective model for dissipative systems

Fan Zhang, Dongxing Zhao, Ying Gu +3 more

We theoretically investigate a general scheme for determining quantum entanglement of two detuned quantum dots (QDs) mediated by plasmon nanoparticle for weakly driven dissipative systems. By adiabatically eliminating the field operators, an effective model is proposed to find the underlying mechanism for this determination. Two specific hybrid systems composed of two QDs and a metallic nanoparticle (MNP) are considered. In the QD-MNP-QD system, the concurrence maxima generated by the detunings are several times larger than those in the resonance condition because of the robust superposition between the two separated entangled states. However, in the MNP-QD-QD system, the detunings generally reduce entanglement because the dipole-dipole interaction strongly suppresses the superposition of the entangled states. Moreover, the plateau of large concurrence exists for a broad range of parameters in both cases. The scheme is robust to dissipative systems and paves the way to improve entanglement in quantum information devices at the nanoscale.
