Different procedures have been developed in order to recover entanglement after propagation over a noisy channel. Besides a certain amount of noise, entanglement is completely lost and the channel is called entanglement breaking. Here we investigate both theoretically and experimentally an entanglement concentration protocol for a mixed three-qubit state outgoing from a strong linear coupling of two-qubit maximally entangled polarization state with another qubit in a completely mixed state. Thanks to such concentration procedure, the initial entanglement can be probabilistically recovered. Furthermore, we analyse the case of sequential linear couplings with many depolarized photons showing that thanks to the concentration a full recovering of entanglement is still possible.

Quantum entanglement, a fundamental property ensuring security of key distribution and efficiency of quantum computing, is extremely sensitive to decoherence. Different procedures have been developed in order to recover entanglement after propagation over a noisy channel. However, besides a certain amount of noise, entanglement is completely lost. In this case the channel is called entanglement breaking and any multi-copy distillation methods cannot help to restore even a bit of entanglement. We report the experimental realization of a new method which restores entanglement from a single photon entanglement breaking channel. The method based on measurement of environmental light and quantum feed-forward correction can reveal entanglement even if this one completely disappeared. This protocol provides new elements to overcome decoherence effects.
In the last years, different procedures have been developed in order to recover entanglement after propagation over a noisy channel. However, above a certain amount of noise, entanglement is completely lost. In this case the channel is called "entanglement-breaking" and any multi-copy distillation methods cannot help to reveal even a bit of entanglement. We report the experimental realization of a new protocol which restores entanglement from a single photon entanglement-breaking channel by measuring the information leaking out into the environment. Such restoration entanglement procedure provides new elements to overcome decoherence effects, a subject of renowed interest in quantum communication in the last decade.
Abstract Noise in the channel affects the security of cryptography protocols. The obvious solution for quantum protocols is to estimate the transformation of quantum states caused by the noise. Cluster states are the basic structures of quantum cryptography protocols, which are transmitted through the lossy quantum channel during the procedure of the protocols. The entanglement of the cluster states is extremely fragile and easy to be inflected by inevitable interaction with the environment. To ensure the fidelity of cluster states, the entanglement of the states must be concentrated after the transmission. We propose four protocols to concentrate the entanglement of five-photon linear cluster states by linear optics, in two of which only three parties should perform the local POVM operations. All the protocols reach the maximum of successful probability, and furthermore they are implemented by the linear optics alone. The simulation results depict that lots of five-photon linear cluster states could be concentrated via our protocols, and those protocols are robust against the accuracy of the linear optics. Hence, our protocols are valuable in many fields of quantum information and quantum cryptography.
In order to assure the security of the long-distance quantum communication, the maximum entangled state is necessary. However, the decoherence of the entanglement is inevitable because of the channel noise and the interference of the environment. Quantum entanglement concentration can be used to convert a non-maximum entangled state into a maximum one. In previous entanglement concentration proposals, we need the initial coefficients of non-maximum entangled state or repeat the entanglement concentration process to improve the possibility of success, which reduces the efficiency of the entanglement concentration. A more efficient entanglement concentration for phontonic polarization state is proposed in this paper, which is based on the interaction between circularly polarized light and quantum dot-cavity system. An auxiliary photon is introduced to connect two distant participants. To overcome the channel noise, the auxiliary photon transmits though two channels between the two participants. The photons interact with coupled quantum dot-cavity before and after the auxiliary photon transmission. Then the states of spins and auxiliary photon are measured, and the maximum phontonic polarization entangled state is obtained by single-photon operations according to the measurement results. The success possibility of the proposed scheme is 1 in ideal conditions, that is, the concentration can be realized deterministically. However, the cavity leakage is unavoidable, so the fidelity of the entanglement concentration is calculated by taking one of the measurement results for example. The results show that the influences of the initial coefficients of non-maximum entangled state on the fidelity can be ignored in most cases, which saves a mass of photons used to measure the initial coefficients of the non-maximum entangled state. The fidelities with varying coupling strengths and cavity leakages are also shown in the paper. In the case of weak coupling, the fidelity is low and varies sharply with cavity leakage. Fortunately, the fidelity will plateau in a strong coupling case, and reaches 99.8% with a coupling strength 0.7 for diverse cavity leakages. Much progress has been made in the study of the strong coupling between quantum dot and optical cavity, which can satisfy the requirement of our entanglement concentration. So the proposed scheme is feasible in the current experimental conditions. In general, our proposal still maintains high fidelity even considering the cavity leakage, and the initial information about partially entangled state and the repetition of the entanglement concentration process are not required. This not only improves the security of the quantum entanglement concentration, but also contributes to efficient quantum information processing with less quantum resources. These characteristics increase the universality and efficiency of the entanglement concentration, thus assuring the quality of the long-distance quantum entanglement.
The entanglement evolution of two qubits under local, single-, and two-sided noisy channels is investigated. It is found that for all pure initial states, the entanglement under a one-sided noisy channel is completely determined by the maximal trace distance which is the main element to construct the measure of non-Markovianity. For the two-sided noisy channel case, when the qubits are initially prepared in a general class of states, either pure or mixed, the entanglement can be expressed as the product of the initial entanglement and the channels' action on the maximally entangled state.
With linear optical components to manipulate quantum states of optical fields, the quantum entanglement control and quantum communication can be implemented remotely.By analyzing optical splitter and its use of coherent states,it was found that when the initial state was a direct product of two partially entangled coherent states;another two modes would collapse to a new entangled state using optical splitter and photon-detectors on two modes.Based on this feature, the scheme on entanglement concentration was presented. In this scheme, the two partially entangled coherent states were utilized as the quantum channel, when zero photon and odd photons were detected in two modes separately, and another two modes would collapse to the maximum entangled state, thereby completing the process of the entanglement concentration. It was proved that,no matter how small the initial entanglement is,to distill some maximally entangled states from partially entangled pure states is possible.
