Abstract

We investigate the anisotropic quantum orbital compass model on an infinite square lattice by means of the infinite projected entangled-pair state algorithm. For varying values of the Jx and Jz coupling constants of the model, we approximate the ground state and evaluate quantities such as its expected energy and local order parameters. We also compute adiabatic continuations of the ground state, and show that several ground states with different local properties coexist at Jx=Jz. All our calculations are fully consistent with a first order quantum phase transition at this point, thus corroborating previous numerical evidence. Our results also suggest that tensor network algorithms are particularly fitted to characterize first order quantum phase transitions.

Long-range string orders and topological quantum phase transitions in the one-dimensional quantum compass model

Hai Tao Wang, Sam Young Cho

In order to investigate the quantum phase transition in the one-dimensional quantum compass model, we numerically calculate non-local string correlations, entanglement entropy and fidelity per lattice site by using the infinite matrix product state representation with the infinite time evolving block decimation method. In the whole range of the interaction parameters, we find that four distinct string orders characterize the four different Haldane phases and the topological quantum phase transition occurs between the Haldane phases. The critical exponents of the string order parameters β = 1/8 and the cental charges c = 1/2 at the critical points show that the topological phase transitions between the phases belong to an Ising type of universality classes. In addition to the string order parameters, the singularities of the second derivative of the ground state energies per site, the continuous and singular behaviors of the Von Neumann entropy and the pinch points of the fidelity per lattice site manifest that the phase transitions between the phases are of the second-order, in contrast to the first-order transition suggested in previous studies.

Continuous ferromagnetic quantum phase transition on an anisotropic Kondo lattice

Jialin Chen, Jiangfan Wang, Danqing Hu +1 more

Motivated by the recent discovery of ferromagnetic quantum criticality in the heavy fermion compound ${\mathrm{CeRh}}_{6}{\mathrm{Ge}}_{4}$, we develop a numerical algorithm of infinite projected entangled pair states for the anisotropic ferromagnetic Kondo-Heisenberg model in two dimensions and study the ferromagnetic quantum phase transitions with varying magnetic and hopping anisotropy. Our calculations reveal a continuous ferromagnetic quantum phase transition in the large anisotropic region and first-order quantum phase transitions for smaller anisotropy. Our results highlight the importance of magnetic anisotropy on ferromagnetic quantum criticality in Kondo lattice systems and provide a possible explanation for the experimental observation in ${\mathrm{CeRh}}_{6}{\mathrm{Ge}}_{4}$ with a quasi-one-dimensional magnetic structure. Our work opens the avenue for future studies of the rich Kondo lattice physics using state-of-the-art tensor network approaches.

Ground-state phase diagram of the SU ( 4 ) Heisenberg model on a plaquette lattice

Ryui Kaneko, Shimpei Goto, Ippei Danshita

We investigate the ground state of the $\mathrm{SU}(4)$ Heisenberg model on a square lattice with spatial anisotropy on each plaquette bond using the tensor-network method based on infinite projected entangled pair states. We find that the $\mathrm{SU}(4)$ singlet ground state appears in the strongly anisotropic limit, whereas N\'eel and valence-bond crystal orders coexist in the nearly isotropic limit. By examining the intermediate parameter region, we identify a phase transition between these phases. The nature of the phase transition is likely to be of first order, and the transition point is estimated to be around ${J}^{\ensuremath{'}}/J\ensuremath{\approx}0.85(5)$, where $J$ and ${J}^{\ensuremath{'}}$ are the interaction strengths of intra- and interplaquette bonds, respectively. We also calculate the anisotropy dependence of singlet correlations on a plaquette bond, which will be useful for future experiments of ultracold atoms in optical lattices.

Order in Quantum Compass and Orbital egModels

Piotr Czarnik, Jacek Dziarmaga, Andrzej M. Oleś

We investigate thermodynamic phase transitions in the compass model and in eg orbital model on an infinite square lattice by variational tensor network renormalization (VTNR) in imaginary time. The onset of nematic order in the quantum compass model is estimated at Tc{J 0.0606p4q.For the eg orbital model one finds: (i) a very accurate estimate of Tc{J 0.3566 0.0001 and (ii) the critical exponents in the Ising universality class.Remarkably large difference in frustration results in so distinct values of Tc, while entanglement influences the quality of Tc estimation.

Ground-State Behavior of the Quantum Compass Model in an External Field

Kewei Sun, Qing‐Hu Chen

Ground-state (GS) properties of the two-dimensional (2D) quantum compass model in an external field on a square 5 × 5 lattice are investigated by using the exact diagonalization (ED) method. We obtain the GS energy and evaluate quantities such as its correlation functions, nearest-neighbor entanglement and local order parameter. As the external field is presented, the first-order quantum phase point is absent and the system exhibits the behaviors of the second-order phase transition.

Bifurcation in ground-state fidelity and universal order parameter for two-dimensional quantum transverse Ising model

Sheng-Hao Li, Honglei Wang, Qian‐Qian Shi +1 more

We establish an intriguing connection between quantum phase transitions and bifurcations in the ground-state fidelity per lattice site, and construct the universal order parameter for quantum Ising model in a transverse magnetic field on an infinite-size square lattice in two spatial dimensions, a prototypical model with symmetry breaking order. This is achieved by computing ground-state wave functions in the context of the tensor network algorithm based on the infinite projected entangled-pair state representation. Our finding is applicable to any systems with symmetry breaking order, as a result of the fact that, in the conventional Landau-Ginzburg-Wilson paradigm, a quantum system undergoing a phase transition is characterized in terms of spontaneous symmetry breaking captured by a local order parameter. In addition, a bifurcation in the reduced fidelity between two different reduced density matrices is also discussed.
