Production and protection of entanglement via vacuum induced coherences

Anjali N. Nair, R. Arun

Abstract The entanglement dynamics of a pair of three-level V-type atoms decaying spontaneously in a common vacuum reservoir is investigated. Under the condition that the decaying transitions in the atoms have parallel dipole moments, the effect of coherences induced by spontaneous emission is considered in the atomic dynamics. We show that vacuum-induced coherence (VIC) and collective effects in atomic decay play a significant role in the creation of entanglement. By using negativity as a measure of entanglement, we study the time evolution of entanglement for initial separable and generalized Dicke states as well as maximally entangled qutrit states. We show that the effects of VIC enhance the production of entanglement from initial separable states of the atoms. We also show that the entanglement can be protected in steady-state for atoms evolving from initial entangled states. The amount of entanglement that can be preserved is more in the presence of VIC than in its absence.

Phase-Controlled Atom-Photon Entanglement in a Three-Level V-Type Atomic System via Spontaneously Generated Coherence

We investigate the dynamical behavior of the atom-photon entanglement in a V-type three-level quantum system using the atomic reduced entropy. It is shown that an atom and photons are entangled at the steady-state; however disentanglement can also be achieved in an special condition. It is demonstrated that in the presence of quantum interference induced by spontaneous emission, the reduced entropy and the atom-photon entanglement are phase-dependent. A non-stationary solution is also obtained when the quantum interference due to the spontaneous emission is completely included.

Quantum coherence dynamics of a three-level atom in a two-mode field

N. K. Solovarov

The correlated dynamics of a three-level atom resonantly coupled to an electromagnetic cavity field is calculated (Λ, V , and L models). A diagrammatic representation of quantum dynamics is proposed for these models. As an example, Λ-atom dynamics is examined to demonstrate how the use of conventional von Neumann’s reduction leads to internal decoherence (disentanglement-induced decoherence) and to the absence of atomic coherence under multiphoton excitation. The predicted absence of atomic coherence is inconsistent with characteristics of an experimentally observed atom-photon entangled state. It is shown that the correlated reduction of a composite quantum system proposed in [18] qualitatively predicts the occurrence and evolution of atomic coherence under multiphoton excitation if a seed coherence is introduced into any subsystem (the atom or a cavity mode).
