Energy functional for the three-level Lipkin model

Abstract

We compute the energy functional of a three-level Lipkin model via a Legrendre transform and compare exact numerical results with analytical solutions obtained from the random phase approximation (RPA). Except for the region of the phase transition, the RPA solutions perform very well. We also study the case of three nondegenerate levels and again find that the RPA solution agrees well with the exact numerical result. For this case, the analytical results give us insight into the form of the energy functional in the presence of symmetry-breaking one-body potentials.

Self-consistent random phase approximation and the restoration of symmetries within the three-level Lipkin model

Doru Sabin Delion, Peter Schuck, J. Dukelsky

We show that it is possible to restore broken symmetries associated with the Goldstone mode within the self-consistent random phase approximation (SCRPA) applied to the three-level Lipkin model. To do this, it is necessary to include the so-called scattering terms in the RPA operator. We determine one- and two-body densities as very convergent expansions in terms of the generators of the RPA basis. We show that SCRPA excitations correspond to the heads of some rotational bands in the exact spectrum.

Reproduction of exact solutions of Lipkin model by nonlinear higher random-phase approximation

J. Terasaki, A. Smetana, F. Šimkovic +1 more

It is shown that the random-phase approximation (RPA) method with its nonlinear higher generalization, which was previously considered as approximation except for a very limited case, reproduces the exact solutions of the Lipkin model. The nonlinear higher RPA is based on an equation nonlinear on eigenvectors and includes many particle-many hole components in the creation operator of the excited states. We demonstrate the exact character of solutions analytically for the particle number [Formula: see text] and, numerically, for [Formula: see text]. This finding indicates that the nonlinear higher RPA is equivalent to the exact Schrödinger equation, which opens up new possibilities for realistic calculations in many-body problems.

A possible trial beyond the conventional random phase approximation for the su(2)-Lipkin model including the case of nonclosed shell system

Y. Tsue, Constança Providência, João da Providência +1 more

Concerning the [Formula: see text]-Lipkin model, the calculation of the excitation energy to the first excited state gives rise to the following fact: The two results based on the exact treatment and the conventional random phase approximation (RPA) are in unexpected disagreement. In order to remove this discrepancy, the conventional RPA is renewed. With the aim of this renewal, the terms, which cannot be dealt with in the conventional one, are estimated. The basic framework of this new form is not reorganized from that of the conventional one. In addition, the [Formula: see text]-Lipkin model itself is also modified so as to be applicable to the case with nonclosed shell system. To this modification, one more [Formula: see text]-algebra, which has been already proposed by the present authors, is applied. Through the use of this algebra, the [Formula: see text]-Lipkin model is applicable to the case with any total fermion number permitted in the model.

Boson-mapping-based extension of the random-phase approximation in a three-level Lipkin model

M. Grasso, F. Catara, Michelangelo Sambataro

Working within an exactly solvable three level model a boson Hamiltonian is defined via a mapping procedure and its expansion truncated at four-boson terms. The resulting spectrum is found in good agreement with the exact one. We discuss an extension of the random-phase approximation (RPA) based on this boson formalism. Nonlinear RPA-type equations are constructed and solved iteratively. The new solutions gain in stability with respect to the RPA ones. We perform diagonalizations of the boson Hamiltonian in restricted spaces; approximate spectra exhibit an improved quality with increasing the size of these spaces. Special attention is addressed to the problem of the anharmonicity of the spectrum.

Random-phase approximation approach to rotational symmetry restoration in a three-level Lipkin model

K. Hagino, G. F. Bertsch

We study an extended Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick model that permits a transition to a deformed phase with a broken continuous symmetry. Unlike simpler models, one sees a persistent zero-frequency Goldstone mode past the transition point into the deformed phase. We found that the RPA formula for the correlation energy provides a useful correction to the Hartree-Fock energy when the number of particle N satisfies $N>3,$ and becomes accurate for large N. We conclude that the RPA correlation energy formula offers a promising way to improve the Hartree-Fock energy in a systematic theory of nuclear binding energies.
