Uncertainty Inequalities as Entanglement Criteria for Negative Partial-Transpose States

Abstract

In this Letter, we show that the fulfillment of uncertainty relations is a sufficient criterion for a quantum-mechanically permissible state. We specifically construct two pseudospin observables for an arbitrary nonpositive Hermitian matrix whose uncertainty relation is violated. This method enables us to systematically derive separability conditions for all negative partial-transpose states in experimentally accessible forms. In particular, generalized entanglement criteria are derived from the Schrödinger-Robertson inequalities for bipartite continuous-variable states.

Systematic construction of genuine-multipartite-entanglement criteria in continuous-variable systems using uncertainty relations

Fabricio Toscano, A. Saboia, Ardiley Torres Avelar +1 more

A general procedure to construct criteria for identifying genuine multipartite continuous-variable entanglement is presented. It relies on the definition of adequate global operators describing the multipartite system, the positive partial transpose criterion of separability, and quantum-mechanical uncertainty relations. As a consequence, each criterion encountered consists of a single inequality that is nicely computable and experimentally feasible. Violation of the inequality is a sufficient condition for genuine multipartite entanglement. Additionally, we show that the previous work of van Loock and Furusawa [P. van Loock and A. Furusawa, Phys. Rev. A 67, 052315 (2003)] is a special case of our result.

Multipartite entanglement criterion from uncertainty relations

Jérémie Gillet, Thierry Bastin, G. S. Agarwal

We formulate an entanglement criterion using Peres-Horodecki positive partial transpose operations combined with the Schr\"odinger-Robertson uncertainty relation. We show that any pure entangled bipartite and tripartite state can be detected by experimentally measuring mean values and variances of specific observables. Those observables must satisfy a specific condition in order to be used, and we show their general form in the $2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}2$ (two qubits) dimension case. The criterion is applied on a variety of physical systems including bipartite and multipartite mixed states and reveals itself to be stronger than the Bell inequalities and other criteria. The criterion also work on continuous variable cat states and angular momentum states of the radiation field.

Entanglement conditions for four-mode states via the uncertainty relations in conjunction with partial transposition

Lijun Song, Xiaoguang Wang, Dong Yan +1 more

Abstract From the Heisenberg uncertainty relation in conjunction with partial transposition, we derive a class of inequalities for detecting entanglements in four-mode states. The sufficient conditions for bipartite entangled states are presented. We also discuss the generalization of the entanglement conditions via the Schrödinger-Robertson indeterminacy relation, which are in general stronger than those based on the Heisenberg uncertainty relation.

Optimizing confidence in negative-partial-transpose-based entanglement criteria

Lydia A. Kanari-Naish, Clarke, Jack, Sofia Qvarfort +1 more

A key requirement of any separable quantum state is that its density matrix has a positive partial transpose. For continuous bipartite quantum states, violation of this condition may be tested via the hierarchy of negative-partial-transpose (NPT) based entanglement criteria introduced by Shchukin and Vogel [Phys. Rev. Lett. 95, 230502 (2005)]. However, a procedure for selecting the optimal NPT-based criterion is currently lacking. Here, we develop a framework to select the optimal criterion by determining the level of confidence of criteria within the Shchukin and Vogel hierarchy for finite measurement number, environmental noise, and the optimal allocation of measurement resources. To demonstrate the utility of our approach, we apply our statistical framework to prominent example Gaussian and non-Gaussian states, including the two-mode squeezed vacuum state, the quanta-subtracted two-mode squeezed vacuum state, and the two-mode Schrödinger-cat state. Beyond bipartite inseparability tests, our framework can be applied to any Hermitian matrix constructed of observable moments and thus can be utilized for a wide variety of other nonclassicality criteria and multi-mode entanglement tests.

Inseparability criterion using higher-order Schrödinger–Robertson uncertainty relation

Chang-Woo Lee, Junghee Ryu, Jeongho Bang +1 more

We formulate an inseparability criterion based on the recently derived generalized Schrödinger–Robertson uncertainty relation (SRUR) [J. Phys. A45, 195305 (2012)] together with the negativity of partial transpose (PT). This generalized SRUR systematically deals with two orthogonal quadrature amplitudes to higher orders, so it is relevant to characterize non-Gaussian quantum statistics. We first present a method that relies on the single-mode marginal distribution of two-mode fields under PT followed by beam-splitting operation. We then extend the SRUR to two-mode cases and develop a full two-mode version of the inseparability criterion. We find that our formulation can be useful to detect entanglement of non-Gaussian states even when, e.g., the entropic criterion that also involves higher-order moments fails.

Separability bounds on multiqubit moments due to positivity under partial transpose

A. R. Usha Devi, A. K. Rajagopal

Positivity of the density operator reflects itself in terms of sequences of inequalities on observable moments. Uncertainty relations for noncommuting observables form a subset of these inequalities. In addition, criterion of positivity under partial transposition (PPT) imposes distinct bounds on moments, violations of which signal entanglement. We present bounds on some sets of composite moments, consequent to positive partial transposition of the density operator and report their violation by entangled multiqubit states. In particular, we derive separability bounds on a multiqubit moment matrix (based on PPT constraints on bipartite divisions of the density matrix) and show that three-qubit pure states with nonzero tangle violate these PPT moment constraints. Further, we recover a necessary and sufficient condition of separability in a multiqubit Werner state through PPT bounds on moments.
