Abstract

We investigate the possibility to have electron-pairs in dephasing-free subspace (DFS), by means of the quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) and single-spin rotations, to carry out a high-fidelity and deterministic universal quantum computation. We show that our QCA device with electrons tunneling two dimensionally is very suitable for DFS encoding, and argue that our design favors a scalable quantum computation robust to collective dephasing errors.

Universal quantum computation with electronic qubits in decoherence-free subspace

Xinglai Zhang, Mang Feng, K. Gao

We investigate how to carry out universal quantum computation deterministically with free electrons in decoherence-free subspace by using polarizing beam splitters, charge detectors, and single-spin rotations. Quantum information in our case is encoded in spin degrees of freedom of the electron-pairs which construct a decoherence-free subspace. We design building blocks for two noncommutable single-logic-qubit gates and a logic controlled phase gate, based on which a universal and scalable quantum information processing robust to dephasing is available in a deterministic way.

QUANTUM COMPUTATION BASED ON ELECTRON SPIN QUBITS WITHOUT SPIN-SPIN INTERACTION

Yin‐Zhong Wu, Wei-Min Zhang, Chopin Soo

Using electron spin states in a unit cell of three semiconductor quantum dots as qubit states, a scalable quantum computation scheme is advocated without invoking qubit-qubit interactions. Single electron tunneling technology and coherent quantum-dot cellular automata architecture are used to generate an ancillary charge entangled state which is then converted into spin entangled state. Without using charge measurement and ancillary qubits, we demonstrate universal quantum computation based on free electron spin and coherent quantum-dot cellular automata.

Free spin quantum computation with semiconductor nanostructures

Weimin Zhang, Yin‐Zhong Wu, Chopin Soo

Taking the excess electron spin in a unit cell of semiconductor multiple quantum-dot structure as a qubit, we can implement scalable quantum computation without resorting to spin-spin interactions. The technique of single electron tunnelings and the structure of quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) are used to create a charge entangled state of two electrons which is then converted into spin entanglement states by using single spin rotations. Deterministic two-qubit quantum gates can also be manipulated using only single spin rotations with help of QCA. A single-short read-out of spin states can be realized by coupling the unit cell to a quantum point contact.

Charge-to-spin conversion of electron entanglement states and spin-interaction-free solid-state quantum computation

Without resorting to spin-spin coupling, we propose a scalable spin quantum computing scheme assisted with a semiconductor multiple-quantum-dot structure. The techniques of single electron transitions and the nanostructure of quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) are used to generate charge entangled states of two electrons, which are then converted into spin entanglement states using single-spin rotations only. Deterministic two-qubit quantum gates are also manipulated using only single-spin rotations with the help of QCA. A single-shot readout of spin states can be carried out by coupling the multiple dot structure to a quantum point contact. As a result, deterministic spin-interaction-free quantum computing can be implemented in semiconductor nanostructure.

Robust Quantum Computation with Quantum Dots

C. Stephen Hellberg

Quantum computation in solid state quantum dots faces two significant challenges: Decoherence from interactions with the environment and the difficulty of generating local magnetic fields for the single qubit rotations. This paper presents a design of composite qubits to overcome both challenges. Each qubit is encoded in the degenerate ground-state of four (or six) electrons in a system of five quantum dots arranged in a two-dimensional pattern. This decoherence-free subspace is immune to both collective and local decoherence, and resists other forms of decoherence, which must raise the energy. The gate operations for universal computation are simple and physically intuitive, and are controlled by modifying the tunneling barriers between the dots--Control of local magnetic fields is not required. A controlled-phase gate can be implemented in a single pulse.
