Entanglement propagation through spin chains in the presence of a staggered magnetic field

Abstract

We study the dynamics of entanglement in an $XY$ spin chain subject to a staggered magnetic field and contrast it to the previously discussed uniform field case. We find that in the isotropic $(XX)$ limit a staggered field can provide almost equally favorable conditions for a high-fidelity transfer of entanglement, while even a modest amount of exchange anisotropy appears to have a strong detrimental effect. We also study interactions between different waves of entanglement and assess the possibility of simultaneous transmission of multiple bits of quantum information.

Analysis Of The XY Spin 1/2 Model In Staggered Field And Networks Of D-Wave Josephson Junctions

R. H. Crooks

The study of entanglement in quantum systems is an area of much recent experimental and theoretical work and is of central importance in the implementation of various protocols in quantum information science. The dynamical properties of entanglement are examined in the context of the XY spin 1/2 chain model with a staggered magnetic field. The quality of entangled state transfer is found to be comparable to the uniform field XY spin 1/2 chain in the strong field regime. The effects of anisotropy on state transfer is also considered, as well as the interaction between entanglement waves and the possibility of transmission of multiple bits of quantum information. As an additional system where these quantum entanglement dynamics might play out, a large array of mesoscopic junctions made out of gapless unconventional superconductors is also studied. In this model, the tunneling processes of both particle-hole and Cooper pairs give rise to a strongly retarded effective action which, contrary to the case of conventional superconductors, cannot be readily characterized in terms of a local Josephson energy. This is an action that describes, for example, grain boundary and c-axis junctions in layered high-Tc superconductors. The emergent collective phenomena in this system are obtained, along with the phase diagram and the electrical conductivity of the model.

Witnessing macroscopic entanglement in a staggered magnetic field

Jenny Hide, Wonmin Son, Ian D. Lawrie +1 more

We investigate macroscopic entanglement in an infinite XX spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ chain with staggered magnetic field, ${B}_{l}=B+{e}^{\ensuremath{-}i\ensuremath{\pi}l}b$. Using single-site entropy and by constructing an entanglement witness, we search for the existence of entanglement when the system is at absolute zero, as well as in thermal equilibrium. Although the role of the alternating magnetic field $b$ is, in general, to suppress entanglement as do $B$ and $T$, we find that when $T=0$, introducing $b$ allows the existence of entanglement even when the uniform magnetic field $B$ is arbitrarily large. We find that the region and the amount of entanglement in the spin chain can be enhanced by a staggered magnetic field.

QUANTUM PHASE ANALYSIS OF AN ANISOTROPIC (XYZ) HEISENBERG SPIN-1/2 CHAIN UNDER A UNIFORM AND STAGGERED MAGNETIC FIELD

Sujit Sarkar

We study quantum phases of an anisotropic (XYZ) Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain under a mixed magnetic field (uniform and staggered), along with its variant. Our model consists of two competing relevant operators, anisotropy a, and staggered magnetic field hs. Depending on the sign of a this model describes either the physics of solitonic confinement, or the Ising transition between gapped phases. In our case excitations are the integer spin particle in contrast to the half-integer spin particle of frustrated dimerized spin chain. We do all analysis in weak coupling limit.

ANISOTROPY AND MAGNETIC FIELD EFFECTS ON THE ENTANGLEMENT TRANSFER IN TWO PARALLEL HEISENBERG SPIN CHAINS

Zhao-Ming Wang, Bin Shao, Jian Zou

We investigate the entanglement transfer in two parallel spin chains by anisotropic Heisenberg XY interaction in an external magnetic field. The perfect entanglement transfer condition is obtained. We find that perfect entanglement transfer can be realized from one spin pair to another spin pair at certain times by adjusting the magnetic field strength and the anisotropy parameter, which suggests its potential usefulness in quantum information process.

Anisotropy and Magnetic Field Effects on the Entanglement of a Two Qubit Heisenberg XY Chain

G. Lagmago Kamta, Anthony F. Starace

We investigate the entanglement of a two-qubit anisotropic Heisenberg XY chain in thermal equilibrium at temperature T in the presence of an external magnetic field B along the z axis. By means of the combined influences of anisotropic interactions and a magnetic field B, one is able to produce entanglement for any finite T, by adjusting the magnetic field strength. This contrasts with the isotropic interaction or the B = 0 cases, for which there is no entanglement above a critical temperature T(c) that is independent of the external B field.

Effects of the staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction on entanglement in antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain

Cai Zhuo, Lu Wen-Bin, Yongjun Liu +1 more

By using the density-matrix renormalization group method, the spin entanglement in the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with the staggered Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interactions is investigated. It is found that the staggered DM interactions remove the field-induced second order quantum phase transition of the system at the magnitude of magnetic field H=2, and lead to the vanishing of the anomalous behavior of quantum entanglement. Also, the staggered DM interactions eliminate the divergence of entanglement range. It means the disappearance of the factorizing point in the model studied. Due to the presence of the staggered DM interactions, the system will never come to the state of saturated ferromagnetism under finite magnetic fields, thus maintaining the spin entanglement. The staggered DM interactions favor the tuning of the strength and range of spin entanglement.
