Nonlinear collapse of an isolated, homogeneously broadened, spectral line as a result of coherent collisions

Sergey G. Rautian

The collisional exchange between an off-diagonal element of the density matrix and its complex conjugate results in the collapse of a homogeneously broadened spectral line. The case when such exchange is due to the polarization of the heat bath on account of two-photon absorption is studied.

Effects of Squeezing on the Power Broadening and Shifts of Micromaser Lineshapes

Leonardi Hernández-Sánchez, I. Ramos-Prieto, Francisco Soto +1 more

AC Stark shifts have an impact on the dynamics of atoms interacting with a near-resonant quantized single-mode cavity field, which is relevant to a single atom micromaser. In this study, we demonstrate that, when the field is in a squeezed coherent state, atomic lineshapes are highly sensitive to the squeezing parameter. Furthermore, we show that, when considering a superposition of squeezed coherent states with equal amplitude, the displacement of the transition lines depends significantly, not only on the squeezing parameter, but also on its sign.

Quantum theory of the micromaser with ultracold cascade three-level atoms: II. Spectral properties

Zhi‐Ming Zhang, Sheng-Wu Xie, Liang Wen-Qing +1 more

We study the spectrum of the micromaser injected with ultracold cascade three-level atoms. We examine the effects of the atomic centre-of-mass motion, the cavity length, the atom-field detuning, the ratio of the atomic injection rate to the cavity decay rate, and the number of photons in thermal equilibrium on the spectrum. We find that the micromaser injected with ultracold three-level atoms shows new spectral properties which are different from those of the micromaser injected with ultracold two-level atoms and the micromaser injected with thermal two- or three-level atoms. The main conclusions are that the linewidth can be broadened and the frequency can be either red-shifted or blue-shifted.
