Determinant solution for the totally asymmetric exclusion process with parallel update: II. Ring geometry

Abstract

Using the Bethe ansatz we obtain the determinant expression for the time dependent transition probabilities in the totally asymmetric exclusion process with parallel update on a ring. Developing a method of summation over the roots of Bethe equations based on the multidimensional analogue of the Cauchy residue theorem, we construct the resolution of the identity operator, which allows us to calculate the matrix elements of the evolution operator and its powers. Representation of results in the form of an infinite series elucidates connection to other results obtained for the ring geometry. As a by-product we also obtain the generating function of the joint probability distribution of particle configurations and the total distance traveled by the particles.

Determinant solution for the TASEP with particle-dependent hopping probabilities on a ring

Vahagn Poghosyan, V. B. Priezzhev

We consider the totally asymmetric exclusion process on a ring in discrete time with the backward-ordered sequential update and particle-dependent hopping probabilities. Using a combinatorial treatment of the Bethe ansatz, we derive the determinant expression for the non-stationary probability of transitions between particle configurations. In the continuous-time limit, we find a generalization of the recent result, obtained by A. Rákos and G.M. Schütz for infinite lattice, to the case of ring geometry.

Determinant solution for the totally asymmetric exclusion process with parallel update

Alexander M. Povolotsky, V. B. Priezzhev

We consider the totally asymmetric exclusion process in discrete time with the parallel update. Constructing an appropriate transformation of the evolution operator, we reduce the problem to that solvable by the Bethe ansatz. The nonstationary solution of the master equation for the infinite 1D lattice is obtained in a determinant form. Using a modified combinatorial treatment of the Bethe ansatz, we give an alternative derivation of the resulting determinant expression.

Matrix-product ansatz for the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with a generalized update on a ring

Boyka Aneva, J.G. Brankov

We apply the matrix-product ansatz to study the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a ring with a generalized discrete-time dynamics depending on two hopping probabilities, $p$ and $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}$. The model contains as special cases the TASEP with parallel update, when $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}=0$, and with sequential backward-ordered update, when $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}=p$. We construct a quadratic algebra and its two-dimensional matrix-product representation to obtain exact finite-size expressions for the partition function, the current of particles, and the two-point correlation function. Our main new result is the derivation of the finite-size pair correlation function. Its behavior is analyzed in different regimes of effective attraction and repulsion between the particles, depending on whether $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}>p$ or $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}<p$. In particular, we explicitly obtain an analytic expression for the pair correlation function in the limit of irreversible aggregation $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}1$, when the stationary configurations contain just one cluster.

Exact Nonstationary Probabilities in the Asymmetric Exclusion Process on a Ring

V. B. Priezzhev

The complete solution of the master equation for a system of interacting particles of finite density is presented. By using a new form of the Bethe ansatz, the totally asymmetric exclusion process on a ring is solved for arbitrary initial conditions and time intervals.

Bethe Ansatz solution for a defect particle in the asymmetric exclusion process

Bernard Derrida, M. R. Evans

Abstract: The asymmetric exclusion process on a ring in one-dimension is considered with a single defect particle. The steady state has previously been solved by a matrix product method. Here we use the Bethe ansatz to solve exactly for the long time limit behaviour of the generating function of the distance travelled by the defect particle. This allows us to recover steady state properties known from the matrix approach such as the velocity, and obtain new results such as the diffusion constant of the defect particle. In the case where the defect particle is a second class particle we determine the large deviation function and show that in a certain range the distribution of the distance travelled about the mean is Gaussian. Moreover the variance (diffusion constant) grows as L 1/2 where L is the system size. This behaviour can be related to the superdiffusive spreading of excess mass fluctuations on an infinite system. In the case where the defect particle produces a shock, our expressions for the velocity and the diffusion constant coincide with those calculated previously for an infinite system by Ferrari and Fontes.

The totally asymmetric exclusion process with generalized update

A E Derbyshev, S S Poghosyan, Alexander M. Povolotsky +1 more

We consider the totally asymmetric exclusion process in discrete time with generalized updating rules. We introduce a control parameter into the interaction between particles. Two particular values of the parameter correspond to known parallel and sequential updates. In the whole range of its values the interaction varies from repulsive to attractive. In the latter case the particle flow demonstrates an apparent jamming tendency not typical for the known updates. We solve the master equation for N particles on the infinite lattice by the Bethe ansatz. The non-stationary solution for arbitrary initial conditions is obtained in a closed determinant form.
