Abstract

We investigate the conditions of entanglement for a system of two atoms and two photon modes in vacuum, using the Jaynes-Cummings model in the rotating-wave approximation. It is found, by generalizing the existing results, that the strength of entanglement is a periodic function of time. We explicitly show that our results are in agreement with the existing results of entanglement conditions under appropriate limits. Results for the two-atom and two-photon system are generalized to the case of arbitrary values for the atomic energies, corresponding to photon modes frequencies. Though it is apparently a generalization of the existing work, we have considered both the resonant and non-resonant conditions and found a general equation which could be true for both cases. Moreover, we show that periodicity of the entanglement is a distinct feature of resonant system. Considering the two atoms and two photons system, in detail, we develop a technique to study entanglement in many particle systems and the resulting master equation. It is therefore proposed that the entanglement may be used to control cavity losses. Moreover, knowing the entanglement conditions, we can increase the efficiency of quantum computers.

A von Neumann Entropy Measure of Entanglement Transfer in a Double Jaynes-Cummings Model

Samina Masood, Allen H. Miller

We study the entanglement in a system consisting of two non-interacting atoms located in separate cavities, both in their ground states. A single incoming photon has a non-zero probability of entering either of the two cavities. The Jaynes-Cummings interaction in the rotating wave approximation describes the coupling of each atom with the radiation field. We compute and analyze the atom-atom entanglement, the entanglement between the two photon modes, and also the entanglement between each atom and each photon mode. The measure of entanglement is the von Neumann entropy. For the case in which the two atom-photon systems have identical properties, but allowing for non-resonant conditions, the sum of the atom-atom and photon-modes-entanglement is time independent. The effect of detuning is to decrease the strength of the largest entanglement achieved and to shorten the time for it to occur. The results support the fact that the state of the photons after emergence from cavities is entangled, notwithstanding its single-particle nature. In addition, for the case of resonance and identical cavity parameters, we demonstrate that von Neumann entropy is always greater than or equal to the measure of entanglement known as negativity.

Entanglement and thermal entanglement in two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model

Kehui Song

We investigate atom-cavity entanglement in the time evolution and the thermal entanglement in two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model by means of concurrence. The result shows that atom-cavity entangled state appears with periodicity, which decreases with the increasing coupling strength between the atom and cavity; In finite temperature, the concurrence decreases with the increasing of temperature, thermal entanglement vanishes in this Jaynes-Cummings model when system temperature reaches the critical temperature, which is proportional to the coupling strength of atom-cavity. For typical experimental data, the critical temperature is on the order of 10~(-5) K.

Long-lived entangled states in the double Jaynes–Cummings model taking into account the qubits direct dipole-dipole interaction

Evgeny K. Bashkirov

Background. The study of entangled states in Jaynes–Cummings models and its multiqubit generalizations and extensions remains an important and relevant topic in modern quantum optics, quantum information science and solid state physics. This is due to the fact that such models naturally describe the dynamics of interaction of logical elements of quantum devices, such as quantum computers or quantum networks (qubits) with microwave fields of resonators used to control the states of qubits. In this regard, it is very important to search for the most efficient schemes of generation, control and monitoring of entangled qubit states within the framework of Jaynes–Cummings type models. Aim. To investigate the entanglement dynamics of a pair of qubits, each of which is locked in a single-mode resonator and interacts non-resonantly with the vacuum field mode, in the presence of detuning between frequencies of transitions in the qubits and frequencies of resonator modes and dipole-dipole interaction of the qubits. Methods. To analyze the dynamics of the considered system, the solution of the time-dependent quantum Schrödinger equation is investigated. The exact solution of the above equation in the case of entangled Bell-type initial qubits states is found. This is used to calculate the criterion of entanglement of a pair of qubits – negativity. Numerical modeling of the time dependence of negativity for different values of the parameters of the considered model has been carried out. Results. It is shown that the presence of detuning, the difference in the qubit-photon couplings and the intensity of the dipole-dipole interaction significantly affect the maximum degree of entanglement of the qubit subsystem during its evolution. It is found that for certain parameters of the model under consideration, the initial Bell entangled states of qubits can be considered as long-lived stable states. Conclusion. The possibility of realization of long-lived and robust two-qubit entangled states in the system under consideration has been established. The obtained results can be used for effective control and manipulation of the degree of entanglement of qubits interacting with microwave fields of resonators.

Complex dynamics of photon entanglement in the two-mode Jaynes–Cummings model

Mikhail Erementchouk, Michael Niklaus Leuenberger

We study the dynamics of the N-photon entanglement, E(N)(t), for the two-mode Jaynes-Cummings model in the case of a small number N of photons coupled to a single quantum dot inside a cavity, such as a microdisk cavity or a photonic crystal cavity. The quantum dot transitions associated with the photons with different polarizations are assumed to be independent of each other and, hence, the time evolutions of the ' + '- and ' - '-polarized photons are formally separable. However, due to the indistinguishability of the photons, such an interaction still leads to the entanglement of initially disentangled photon states, owing to the nonlinear dependence of the characteristic frequencies on the photon population numbers. The time dependence of the entanglement is the result of superimposing oscillations with incommensurate frequencies. Therefore, E(N)(t) is a quasi-periodic function of time with a complex profile strongly dependent on the number of photons.

The entanglement between two isolated atoms in the double mode–mode competition model

Qin Wu, Mao-Fa Fang, Cai Jian-Wu +1 more

Extending the double Jaynes–Cummings model to a more complicated case where the mode–mode competition is considered, we investigate the entanglement character of two isolated atoms by means of concurrence, and discuss the dependence of atom–atom entanglement on the different initial state and the relative coupling strength between the atom and the corresponding cavity field. The results show that the amplitude and the period of the atom–atom entanglement evolution can be controlled by the choice of initial state and relative coupling strength, respectively. We find that the phenomenon of entanglement sudden death (ESD) is sensitive to the initial conditions. The length of the time interval for zero entanglement depends not only on the initial degree of entanglement between two atoms but also on the relative coupling strength of atom–field interaction. The ESD effect can be weakened by enhancing the mode–mode competition between the three- and single-photon processes.

Tripartite entanglement properties among atoms in three Jaynes-Cummings model

LU Dao-ming

In this paper we consider the situation that three identical two-level atoms resonantly interact with three distant single-mode optical cavities via a one-photon hopping separately.Three atoms are in like-GHz state and therr optical cavities are all in vacuum state initially.Using the Jaynes-Cummings,the time evolution of the system is given. We adopt the entanglement tensor approach to quantify the degree of entanglement. The tripartite entanglement dynamics among three atoms and the entanglement dynamics between two atoms are studied. The influence of atomic states initially on tripartite entanglement among atoms and two-body entanglement between two atoms are discussed. The results obtained using the numerical method show:first, the time evolution of tripartite entanglement displays the periodic oscillation behavior and its oscillation period is not realted with the initial degree of entanglement among atmos;second the peak and mean of entanglement measures E3 and F2 incease with increasing of the initial degree of entanglement among atmos, which means that the larger the initial degree of entanglement among atoms, the layer the tripartite entanglement among atoms and the two-body entanglement between atoms;third, the phenomenon of sudden death of entanglement between two atoms occurs, and the length of the death time interval decreases with increasing of the initial degree of entanglement among atoms. This shows that the length of the death time interval of two-body entanglement can be decreased by selecting initially atomic state with high degree of entanglement among atoms.
