An Introduction to Quantum Computers

Christof Zalka

Published Nov 3, 1998• 0 citations

Abstract

This is a short introduction to quantum computers, quantum algorithms and quantum error correcting codes. Familiarity with the principles of quantum theory is assumed. Emphasis is put on a concise presentation of the principles avoiding lengthy discussions.

An Introduction to Quantum Computing

Phillip Kaye, Raymond Laflamme, Michele Mosca

This concise, accessible text provides a thorough introduction to quantum computing - an exciting emergent field at the interface of the computer, engineering, mathematical and physical sciences. Aimed at advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students in these disciplines, the text is technically detailed and is clearly illustrated throughout with diagrams and exercises. Some prior knowledge of linear algebra is assumed, including vector spaces and inner products. However, prior familiarity with topics such as tensor products and spectral decomposition is not required, as the necessary material is reviewed in the text.

Quantum Information and Quantum Computing: Proceedings of the Symposium

Mikio Nakahara, Yoshitaka Sasaki

The open research center project Interdisciplinary fundamental research toward realization of a quantum computer has been supported by the Ministry of Education, Japan for five years. This is a collection of the research outcomes by the members engaged in the project. To make the presentation self-contained, it starts with an overview by Mikio Nakahara, which serves as a concise introduction to quantum information and quantum computing. Subsequent contributions include subjects from physics, chemistry, mathematics, and information science, reflecting upon the wide variety of scientists working under this project. These contributions introduce NMR quantum computing and related techniques, number theory and coding theory, quantum error correction, photosynthesis, non-classical correlations and entanglement, neutral atom quantum computer, among others. Each of contributions will serve as a short introduction to these cutting edge research fields.

Basics of Quantum Computation (Part 1)

Elemér Elad Rosinger

The aim of this textbook is to bridge in regard of quantum computation what proves to be a considerable threshold even to the usual science trained readership between the level of science popularization, and on the other hand, the presently available more encyclopedic textbooks. In this respect the present textbook is aimed to be a short, simple, rigorous and direct introduction, addressing itself only to quantum computation proper.

Introdução à computação e códigos de correção de erro quânticos

João Bernardo Vieira Gomes

This work aims to introduce the reader to the theory of quantum computing and to present the fundamental mechanisms used to correct errors on this field. It starts going through a small introduction on some linear algebra concepts used in the quantum computing theory and then it continues presenting the mathematical formalism of this theory. Also, some quantum algorithms and protocols are discussed so that the reader can see the possible improvements brought by quantum computing. After that, a description of the errors that impact quantum computers is presented, and some basic quantum error detection and correction codes are discussed. Finally, some applications developed by the author are presented.

Quantum Computing: A Short Course from Theory to Experiment

Joachim Stolze, Dieter Suter

The result of a lecture series, this textbook is oriented towards students and newcomers to the field and discusses theoretical foundations as well as experimental realizations in detail. The authors are experienced teachers and have tailored this book to the needs of students. They present the basics of quantum communication and quantum information processing, leading readers to modern technical implementations. In addition, they discuss errors and decoherence as well as methods of avoiding and correcting them.
