Abstract

Using the thermal Green's function approach we propose a general method to investigate entanglement of the vacuum state or thermal ground states in an arbitrary dimensional space-time. As an application we show quantum separability of the massive thermal scalar field vacuum in the 1+1 dimensional cylindrical space-time. Separability is demonstrated using the positive partial transpose criterion for effective two-mode Gaussian states of collective operators. In this case, for all mass and temperature values entanglement is absent between the collective operators.

Exact calculation of entanglement negativity for a 1+1D massless scalar field using phase space methods

Jason Pye, Atharva Hingane, Robert H. Jonsson

Quantum fields exhibit a rich entanglement structure which is still not fully understood. In this work, we study the entanglement structure of the vacuum state of a massless scalar field in (1+1)-dimensions -- a paradigmatic case for both high energy and condensed matter physics. We fully characterize the entanglement negativity between two arbitrary compact spacelike-separated regions of the field by calculating the logarithmic negativity along with the modes carrying it, called negativity cores. We achieve this using a framework based on the Kähler structure of Gaussian states, wherein we calculate the diagonalization of the operator associated with the partially-transposed restricted linear complex structure. In doing so, we extend the methods of this framework by proposing a basis-independent definition of the transpose operation. The explicit diagonalization we perform is enabled by a reformulation of the eigenvalue problem as a boundary value problem in the complex plane. Our results also suggest extensions to higher dimensions and fermionic fields.

Quantum separability of the vacuum for scalar fields with a boundary

Jae Weon Lee, Jaewan Kim, Taeseung Choi

Using the Green's function approach we investigate separability of the vacuum state of a massless scalar field with a single Dirichlet boundary. Separability is demonstrated using the positive partial transpose criterion for effective two-mode Gaussian states of collective operators. In contrast to the vacuum energy, entanglement of the vacuum is not modified by the presence of the boundary.

Quantum entanglement of two bosonic modes in de Sitter space

Madalin Calamanciuc, Аурелиан Исар

Abstract The time evolution of Gaussian quantum entanglement of two bosonic modes associated with a scalar quantum field in de Sitter space and in interaction with a thermal reservoir is investigated in the framework of the theory of open systems based on completely positive quantum dynamical semigroups. We show that quantum entanglement strongly depends on the squeezing of the bimodal state, the parameters characterizing the thermal environment, the curvature parameter of de Sitter space, and the mass parameter. The thermal environment and the curvature have a destructive influence on the entanglement, whose survival time depends on the competition between the contrary effects provided by the squeezing of the bimodal state, the curvature, and the thermal bath. The entanglement is minimized for values 1/2 and 3/2 of the mass parameter, corresponding to the conformally coupled scalar field, respectively, minimally coupled massless field.

Thermal purification and thermal entanglement of the two-resonant-coupled-oscillator system at finite temperature

Heng-Mei Li, Xue-xiang Xu, Hong-Yun Huang +1 more

Following the spirit of thermo field dynamics, we adopt the partial trace method to explicitly derive the thermal vacuum state (TVS) for the Hamiltonian H of the two-resonant-coupled-oscillator system coupled to the thermal equilibrium environment. The TVS is a pure state in the four-dimensional extended Hilbert space. Based on the TVS, the Wigner function of this quantum system is derived conveniently. From the known Gaussian Wigner function, we obtain the covariance matrix of the quadrature component and quantify the degree of thermal entanglement for the TVS by using logarithmic negativity. It is found that entanglement takes place only at low temperature.
