Abstract

We present the integration of the optical and electronic subsystems of a BB84-QKD fiber link. A high speed FPGA MODEM generates the random QPSK sequences for a fiber-optic delayed self-homodyne scheme using APD detectors.

Homodyne detection for quantum key distribution: an alternative to photon counting in BB84 protocol

M. B. Costa e Silva, Qing Xu, S. Agnolini +2 more

This paper presents the principles and experimental results of an optical fiber QKD system operating at 1550 nm, and using the BB84 protocol with QPSK signals. Our experimental setup consists of a time-multiplexed super-homodyne configuration using P.I.N detectors in a differential scheme as an alternative to avalanche photon counting. Transmission over 11km of optical fiber has been done using this detection scheme and major relevant characteristics such as noise, quantum efficiency and bit error rate (BER) are reported.

Towards Quantum Key Distribution System using Homodyne Detection with Differential Time-Multiplexed Reference

Qing Xu, Marcia Costa e Silva, Jean‐Luc Danger +4 more

In this work we present the principles and experimental demonstration of a BB84 quantum key distribution (QKD) one way system using fainted pulses and a quadrature phase-shift-keying (QPSK) format including a time- multiplexed unmodulated carrier reference at Alice's end, and a differential homodyne reception at Bob's end. We also describe the secure electronics interface subsystem concept for the interaction with upper layers in an IP application.

Daylight Operation of a High-Speed Free-Space Quantum Key Distribution using Silica-based Integration Chip and Micro-Optics-based Module

We developed a high-speed quantum key distribution (QKD) system integrated with a compact self-developed silica-based planar lightwave circuit chip and a micro-optics-based polarization module. Also, we demonstrated that our system can generate average secure keys at the rate of 701.22 kbps over a free-space link of 275 m in daylight by using effective noise filtering systems in the temporal, spectral, and spatial domains. Real-time beam tracking system was adopted to stabilize the fluctuation of the beam position.

The theme of the integration of Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) in existing WDM optical networks will be discussed.
