Abstract

We give a criterion for a positive mapping on the space of operators on a Hilbert space to be indecomposable. We show that this criterion can be applied to two families of positive maps. These families of maps can then be used to form separability criteria for bipartite quantum states that can detect the entanglement of bound entangled quantum states.

A characterization of positive linear maps and criteria of entanglement for quantum states

Jinchuan Hou

Let H and K be (finite- or infinite-dimensional) complex Hilbert spaces. A characterization of positive completely bounded normal linear maps from into is given, which particularly gives a characterization of positive elementary operators including all positive linear maps between matrix algebras. This characterization is then applied to give a representation of quantum channels (operations) between infinite-dimensional systems. A necessary and sufficient criterion of separability is given which shows that a state ρ on H ⊗ K is separable if and only if (Φ⊗ I )ρ ⩾ 0 for all positive finite-rank elementary operators Φ. Examples of NCP and indecomposable positive linear maps are given and are used to recognize some entangled states that cannot be recognized by the PPT criterion and the realignment criterion.

Separability criteria and bounds for entanglement measures

Heinz‐Peter Breuer

Employing a recently proposed separability criterion we develop analytical lower bounds for the concurrence and for the entanglement of formation of bipartite quantum systems. The separability criterion is based on a nondecomposable positive map which operates on state spaces with even dimension N >= 4, and leads to a class of nondecomposable optimal entanglement witnesses. It is shown that the bounds derived here complement and improve the existing bounds obtained from the criterion of positive partial transposition and from the realignment criterion.

0 A CHARACTERIZATION OF POSITIVE LINEAR MAPS AND CRITERIA OF ENTANGLEMENT FOR QUANTUM STATES

Jinchuan Hou

Let $H$ and $K$ be (finite or infinite dimensional) complex Hilbert spaces. A characterization of positive completely bounded normal linear maps from ${\mathcal B}(H)$ into ${\mathcal B}(K)$ is given, which particularly gives a characterization of positive elementary operators including all positive linear maps between matrix algebras. This characterization is then applied give a representation of quantum channels (operations) between infinite-dimensional systems. A necessary and sufficient criterion of separability is give which shows that a state $\rho$ on $H\otimes K$ is separable if and only if $(\Phi\otimes I)\rho\geq 0$ for all positive finite rank elementary operators $\Phi$. Positive finite rank elementary operators and characterizing entanglement of states

Xiaofei Qi, Jinchuan Hou

In this paper, some indecomposable positive finite rank elementary operators of order ( n , n ) are constructed. This allows us to give a simple necessary and sufficient criterion for the separability of pure states in bipartite systems of any dimension in terms of positive elementary operators of order (2, 2) and obtain some new mixed entangled states that cannot be detected by the positive partial transpose criterion and the realignment criterion.

General scheme for construction of scalar separability criteria from positive maps

Remigiusz Augusiak, Julia Stasińska

We present a general scheme allowing for construction of scalar separability criteria from positive, but not completely positive, maps. The concept is based on a decomposition of every positive map $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$ acting on ${M}_{d}(\mathbb{C})$ into a difference of two completely positive maps ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{1}$, ${\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{2}$, i.e., $\ensuremath{\Lambda}={\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{1}\ensuremath{-}{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}_{2}$. The scheme may also be treated as a generalization of the known entropic inequalities, which are obtained from the reduction map. Analyses performed on a few classes of states show that the scalar criteria are stronger than the entropic inequalities and when derived from indecomposable maps allow for detection of bound entanglement.
