Another dual formulation of the separability problem

Abstract

We show how the separability problem is dual to that of decomposing any given matrix into a conic combination of rank-one partial isometries, thus offering a duality approach different to the positive maps characterization problem. Several inmediate consequences are analyzed: (i) a sufficient criterion for separability for bipartite quantum systems, (ii) a complete solution to the separability problem for pure states also of bipartite systems independent of the classical Schmidt decomposition method and (iii) a natural generalization of these results to multipartite systems.

SEPARABILITY: A NEW APPROACH FROM THE CONIC STRUCTURE OF POSITIVE OPERATORS

David Cienfuegos Salgado, J. L. Sánchez‐Gómez, Miguel Ferrero

We exploit the cone structure of unnormalized quantum states to reformulate the separability problem. Firstly a convex combination of every quantum state ρ in terms of a state Cρ with the same rank and another one Eρ with lower rank is perfomed, with weights 1 − λρ and λρ, respectively. Secondly a scalar [Formula: see text] is computed. Then ρ is separable if, and only if, [Formula: see text]. The computation of [Formula: see text] has been undergone under the simplest choice for Cρ as a product matrix and Eρ being a pure state, valid for any bipartite and multipartite system in arbitrary dimensions. A necessary condition is also formulated when Eρ is not pure in the bipartite case.

Separability Criterion for Multipartite Pure States

Zong‐Wen Yu, Su Hu

In this paper, we give out some effective criterions which can be used to judge the separability of multipartite pure states. We obtain the relationship between separability and Schmidt decomposable of multipartite pure states in Theorem1. The first criterion derived from Theorem2 dose not need the Schmidt decomposition which is hard to find for multipartite states. Theorem3 is more profound which can be used to deduce Corollary1 which is one of the main results in [1]. Finally, we give out an algorithm which can be used to judge the separability of multipartite pure states effectively.

Necessary and Sufficient Conditions of Separability for Multipartite Pure States

Dafa Li, Xiangrong Li, Huang Hongtao +1 more

In this paper we present a necessary and sufficient condition of separability for multipartite pure states and variants of it. These conditions are very simple and calculable, and they do not require Schmidt decomposition (for two subsystems) or tracing out operations. We also give a necessary condition for a local unitary equivalence class for a bipartite system in terms of the determinant of the matrix of amplitudes.

Multipartite pure-state entanglement

Ashish V. Thapliyal

We show that pure states of multipartite quantum systems are multiseparable (i.e., give separable density matrices on tracing any party) if and only if they have a generalized Schmidt decomposition. Implications of this result for the quantification of multipartite pure-state entanglement are discussed. Further, as an application of the techniques used here, we show that any purification of a bipartite-bound entangled state having a positive partial transpose is tri-inseparable, i.e., has none of its three bipartite partial traces separable.

Finding a maximally correlated state: Simultaneous Schmidt decomposition of bipartite pure states

Tohya Hiroshima, Masahito Hayashi

We consider a bipartite mixed state of the form $\ensuremath{\rho}={\ensuremath{\sum}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha},\ensuremath{\beta}=1}^{l}{a}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{\beta}}\ensuremath{\mid}{\ensuremath{\psi}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}⟩⟨{\ensuremath{\psi}}_{\ensuremath{\beta}}⟩$, where $\ensuremath{\mid}{\ensuremath{\psi}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}⟩$ are normalized bipartite state vectors, and matrix $({a}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}\ensuremath{\beta}})$ is positive semidefinite. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the state $\ensuremath{\rho}$ taking the form of maximally correlated states by a local unitary transformation. More precisely, we give a criterion for simultaneous Schmidt decomposability of $\ensuremath{\mid}{\ensuremath{\psi}}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}⟩$ for $\ensuremath{\alpha}=1,2,\dots{},l$. Using this criterion, we can judge completely whether or not the state $\ensuremath{\rho}$ is equivalent to the maximally correlated state, in which the distillable entanglement is given by a simple formula. For generalized Bell states, this criterion is written as a simple algebraic relation between indices of the states. We also discuss the local distinguishability of the generalized Bell states that are simultaneously Schmidt decomposable.

Sufficient separability criteria and linear maps

Maciej Lewenstein, Remigiusz Augusiak, Dariusz Chruściński +2 more

We study families of positive and completely positive maps acting on a bipartite system ${\mathbb{C}}^{M}\ensuremath{\bigotimes}{\mathbb{C}}^{N}$ (with $M\ensuremath{\le}N$). The maps have a property that, when applied to any state (of a given entanglement class), result in a separable state or, more generally, a state of another certain entanglement class (e.g., Schmidt number $\ensuremath{\le}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}k$). This allows us to derive useful families of sufficient separability criteria. Explicit examples of such criteria have been constructed for arbitrary $M,N$, with a special emphasis on $M=2$. Our results can be viewed as generalizations of the known facts that in the sufficiently close vicinity of the completely depolarized state (the normalized identity matrix), all states are separable (belong to ``weakly'' entangled classes). Alternatively, some of our results can be viewed as an entanglement classification for a certain family of states, corresponding to mixtures of the completely polarized state with pure states, partial transposes, and/or local transformations thereof.
