Abstract

We analyze the quantum entanglement at the equilibrium in a class of exactly solvable one-dimensional spin models at finite temperatures and identify a region where the quantum fluctuations determine the behavior of the system. We probe the response of the system in this region by studying the spin dynamics after projective measurement of one local spin which leads to the appearance of the ``decoherence wave.'' We investigate time-dependent spin correlation functions, the entanglement dynamics, and the fidelity of the quantum information transfer after the measurement.

Finite temperature quantum correlations in $SU(2)_c$ quark states and quantum spin models

S. Hamieh, Abdel Nasser Tawfik

The entanglement at finite temperatures are analyzed by using thermal models for colored quarks making up the hadron physical states. We have found that these quantum correlations entirely vanish at $T_c\geq m_q/\ln(1.5)$. For temperatures larger than $T_c$ the correlations are classical. Also we worked out the entanglement for the transverse Ising spin chain. In dependence on both temperature $T$ and transverse field $λ$ we can identify a certain region, where the quantum effects are likely to dominate the system. We suggest the mutual information as a quantitative measure for the correlations in ground state.

Entanglement of spin-1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnetic quantum spin chains

S. L. L. da Silva

The quantum entanglement measure is determined, for the first time, for a collection of spin-1/2 arranged in a infinite chain with finite temperature and applied to a single-crystal β-\mathrm{T_eVO_4}. The physical quantity proposed here to measure the entanglement is the distance between states by adopting the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. We relate the distance between states with the magnetic susceptibility. The decoherence temperature, above which the entanglement is suppressed, is determined for a system. A correlation among their decoherence temperatures and their respective exchange coupling constants is established, moreover, it is conjectured that the exchange coupling protects the system from decoherence as temperature increases.

Quantum effects in spin dynamics of one dimensional systems (invited)

H. Beck, M. W. Puga, Gerhard H. Muller

We present a review of recent results concerning dynamical spin correlation functions of quantum spin chains with nearest neighbor exchange interactions. Zero and finite temperature results, as well as the influence of a magnetic field are discussed for s = 1/2, with special emphasis on quantum effects which can be observed experimentally. We also investigate the dependence on spin quantum number between extreme quantum (s = 1/2) and classical (s = ∞) systems.

Quantum entanglement, local indicators, and the effect of external fields in the Kugel-Khomskii model

V.E. Valiulin, Andrey V. Mikheyenkov, N. M. Chtchelkatchev +1 more

Using the exact diagonalization technique, we determine the energy spectrum and wave functions for finite chains described by the two-spin (Kugel-Khomskii) model with different types of intersubsystem exchange terms. The obtained solutions provide the possibility to address the problem of quantum entanglement inherent in this class of models. We put the main emphasis on the calculations of the concurrence treated as an adequate numerical measure of the entanglement. We also analyze the behavior of two-site correlation functions considered a local indicator of entanglement. We construct the phase diagrams of the models involving the regions of nonzero entanglement. The pronounced effect of external fields, conjugated to both spin variables in the regions with entanglement, could both enhance and weaken the entanglement depending on the parameters of the models.

Low temperature thermodynamics of finite spin-1/2 XX Chain with some distorted links

O. S. Dzhenzherov, E. V. Ezerskaya

We present the results of our analytical and numerical study of quantum stationary states and the thermodynamics of exactly solvable finite linear spin-1/2 XX chain with one or two distorted links. The exact dispersion equations for the stationary states with one inverted spin for both cases have been derived. The corresponding spectrum consists of one quasi-continuous band and some localized impurity levels. The analytical inequalities for the values of the critical model parameters describing the appearance of local energy impurity levels above and below quasi-continuous band are obtained and analyzed. The field and the temperature dependences of the main thermodynamic characteristics of these models are studied. It is shown, that the appearance of the localized levels near the distorted links may effect significantly on the thermodynamic properties at low temperatures, leading to the additional singularities in the field and the temperature dependences of the principal thermodynamic characteristics. For example, the field dependence of z-projection of average total spin and the field dependence of the magnetization at zero temperature have the finite jumps associated with the quasi-continuous spectrum, and the impurity levels. The remnants of these jumps at rather low temperature are clearly visible. The average z-projections of the spins of distorted link(s) may decrease with the increasing of the magnetic field for some values of model parameters. The temperature dependence of the specific heat may demonstrate additional maxima at very low temperatures. The complex oscillatory pattern of the time dependence of the dynamical longitudinal pair correlation function and the autocorrelation function is associated with the finiteness of the models and the appearance of associated localized energy levels.

ENTANGLEMENT AND DECOHERENCE IN SPIN GASES

John Calsamiglia, Ludwig Hartmann, Wolfgang Dür +1 more

We study the dynamics of entanglement in spin gases. A spin gas consists of a (large) number of interacting particles whose random motion is described classically while their internal degrees of freedom are described quantum-mechanically. We determine the entanglement that occurs naturally in such systems for specific types of quantum interactions. At the same time, these systems provide microscopic models for non–Markovian decoherence: the interaction of a group of particles with other particles belonging to a background gas are treated exactly, and differences between collective and non–collective decoherence processes are studied. We give quantitative results for the Boltzmann gas and also for a lattice gas, which could be realized by neutral atoms hopping in an optical lattice. These models can be simulated efficiently for systems of mesoscopic sizes (N ~ 105).
