On the geometry of a class ofN-qubit entanglement monotones

Abstract

A family of N -qubit entanglement monotones invariant under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) is defined. This class of entanglement monotones includes the well-known examples of the concurrence, the 3-tangle and some of the four-, five- and N -qubit SLOCC invariants introduced recently. The construction of these invariants is based on bipartite partitions of the Hilbert space in the form with L = 2 N − n ⩾ l = 2 n . Such partitions can be given a nice geometrical interpretation in terms of Grassmannians Gr ( L , l ) of l -planes in C L that can be realized as the zero locus of quadratic polynomials in the complex projective space of suitable dimension via the Plücker embedding. The invariants are neatly expressed in terms of the Plücker coordinates of the Grassmannians.

Multipartite-entanglement monotones and polynomial invariants

Christopher Eltschka, Thierry Bastin, Andreas Osterloh +1 more

We show that a positive homogeneous function that is invariant under determinant-1 stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) transformations defines an $N$-qubit entanglement monotone if and only if the homogeneous degree is not larger than 4. We then describe a common basis and formalism for the $N$-tangle and other known invariant polynomials of degree 4. This allows us to elucidate the relation of the four-qubit invariants defined by Luque and Thibon [Phys. Rev. A 67, 042303 (2003)] and the reduced two-qubit density matrices of the states under consideration, thus giving a physical interpretation for those invariants. We demonstrate that this is a special case of a completely general law that holds for any multipartite system with bipartitions of equal dimension, e.g., for an even number of qudits.

On the geometry of four-qubit invariants

Péter Lévay

The geometry of four-qubit entanglement is investigated. We replace some of the polynomial invariants for four qubits introduced recently by new ones of direct geometrical meaning. It is shown that these invariants describe four points, six lines and four planes in complex projective space CP 3 . For the generic entanglement class of stochastic local operations and classical communication they take a very simple form related to the elementary symmetric polynomials in four complex variables. Moreover, suitable powers of their magnitudes are entanglement monotones that fit nicely into the geometric set of n -qubit ones related to Grassmannians of l -planes found recently. We also show that in terms of these invariants the hyperdeterminant of order 24 in the four-qubit amplitudes takes a more instructive form than the previously published expressions available in the literature. Finally, in order to understand two-, three- and four-qubit entanglement in geometric terms we propose a unified setting based on CP 3 furnished with a fixed quadric.

Entanglement of four-qubit systems: A geometric atlas with polynomial compass II (the tame world)

Frédéric Holweck, Jean-Gabriel Luque, Jean‐Yves Thibon

We propose a new approach to the geometry of the four-qubit entanglement classes depending on parameters. More precisely, we use invariant theory and algebraic geometry to describe various stratifications of the Hilbert space by Stochastic Local Operations with Classical Communication (SLOCC) invariant algebraic varieties. The normal forms of the four-qubit classification of Verstraete et al. are interpreted as dense subsets of components of the dual variety of the set of separable states and an algorithm based on the invariants/covariants of the four-qubit quantum states is proposed to identify a state with a SLOCC equivalent normal form (up to qubits permutation).

Four qubits can be entangled in nine different ways

Frank Verstraete, Jeroen Dehaene, Bart De Moor +1 more

We consider a single copy of a pure four-partite state of qubits and investigate its behavior under the action of stochastic local quantum operations assisted by classical communication (SLOCC). This leads to a complete classification of all different classes of pure states of four qubits. It is shown that there exist nine families of states corresponding to nine different ways of entangling four qubits. The states in the generic family give rise to Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-like entanglement. The other ones contain essentially two-or three-qubit entanglement distributed among the four parties. The concept of concurrence and 3-tangle is generalized to the case of mixed states of four qubits, giving rise to a seven-parameter family of entanglement monotones. Finally, the SLOCC operations maximizing all these entanglement monotones are derived, yielding the optimal single-copy distillation protocol.

Classification of Multipartite Entanglement of All Finite Dimensionality

Gilad Gour, Nolan R. Wallach

We provide a systematic classification of multiparticle entanglement in terms of equivalence classes of states under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC). We show that such a SLOCC equivalency class of states is characterized by ratios of homogenous polynomials that are invariant under local action of the special linear group. We then construct the complete set of all such SL-invariant polynomials (SLIPs). Our construction is based on Schur-Weyl duality and applies to any number of qudits in all (finite) dimensions. In addition, we provide an elegant formula for the dimension of the homogenous SLIPs space of a fixed degree as a function of the number of qudits. The expressions for the SLIPs involve in general many terms, but for the case of qubits we also provide much simpler expressions.

Entanglement monotones for multi-qubit states based on geometric invariant theory

Hoshang Heydari

We construct entanglement monotones for multi-qubit states based on Plücker coordinate equations of Grassmann variety, which are a central notion in geometric invariant theory. As an illustrative example, we in detail investigate entanglement monotones of a three-qubit state.
