Abstract

We study the information transmission through a quantum channel, defined over a continuous alphabet and losing its energy en route , in the presence of correlated noise among different channel uses. We then show that entangled inputs improve the rate of transmission of such a channel.

Capacities of lossy bosonic channel with correlated noise

Cosmo Lupo, Oleg V Pilyavets, Stefano Mancini

We evaluate the information capacities of a lossy bosonic channel with correlated noise. The model generalizes the one recently discussed by Pilyavets et al (2008 Phys. Rev. A 77 052324), where memory effects come from the interaction with correlated environments. Environmental correlations are quantified by a multimode squeezing parameter, which vanishes in the memoryless limit. We show that a global encoding/decoding scheme, which involves input-entangled states among different channel uses, is always preferable with respect to a local one in the presence of memory. Moreover, in a certain range of the parameters, we provide an analytical expression for the classical capacity of the channel showing that a global encoding/decoding scheme allows it to be attained. All the results can be applied to a broad class of bosonic Gaussian channels.

Lossy bosonic quantum channel with non-Markovian memory

Oleg V. Pilyavets, Vadim Zborovskii, Stefano Mancini

We provide a simple model to study memory effects in a lossy bosonic quantum channel over arbitrary number of uses. The noise correlation among different uses is introduced by contiguous modes interactions which results in an exponential decay of the correlations over channel uses (modes). This model allows us to characterize the asymptotic behavior of the channel for classical information transmission.

Entanglement enhanced bit rate over multiple uses of a lossy bosonic channel with memory

Cosmo Lupo, Stefano Mancini

We present a study of the achievable rates for classical information transmission via a lossy bosonic channel with memory, using homodyne detection. A comparison with the memoryless case shows that the presence of memory enhances the bit rate if information is encoded in collective states, i.e., states which are entangled over different uses of the channel.

Gaussian capacity of the quantum bosonic memory channel with additive correlated Gaussian noise

Joachim Schäfer, Evgueni Karpov, Nicolas J. Cerf

We present an algorithm for calculation of the Gaussian classical capacity of a quantum bosonic memory channel with additive Gaussian noise. The algorithm, restricted to Gaussian input states, is applicable to all channels with noise correlations obeying certain conditions and works in the full input energy domain, beyond previous treatments of this problem. As an illustration, we study the optimal input states and capacity of a quantum memory channel with Gauss-Markov noise [J. Sch\"afer, Phys. Rev. A 80, 062313 (2009)]. We evaluate the enhancement of the transmission rate when using these optimal entangled input states by comparison with a product coherent-state encoding and find out that such a simple coherent-state encoding achieves not less than 90$%$ of the capacity.

Entanglement-assisted Enhanced Information Transmission Over a Quantum Channel with Correlated Noise; A General Expression

A. Fahmi

Entanglement and entanglement-assisted are useful resources to enhance the mutual information of the Pauli channels, when the noise on consecutive uses of the channel has some partial correlations. In this paper, We study quantum communication channels with correlated noise and derive a general expression for the mutual information of quantum channel, for the product, maximally entangled state coding and entanglement-assisted systems with correlated noise in the Pauli quantum channels. Hence, we suggest more efficient coding in the entanglement-assisted systems for the transmission of classical information and derive a general expression for the entanglement-assisted classical capacity. Our results show that in the presence of memory, a higher amount of classical information is transmitted by two or four consecutive uses of entanglement-assisted systems.
