Cluster states from Heisenberg interactions

Abstract

We show that a special type of entangled states, cluster states, can be created with Heisenberg interactions and local rotations in $2d$ steps where $d$ is the dimension of the lattice. We find that, by tuning the coupling strengths, anisotropic exchange interactions can also be employed to create cluster states. Finally, we propose electron spins in quantum dots as a possible realization of a one-way quantum computer based on cluster states.

Production of multipartite entanglement for electron spins in quantum dots

F. Bodoky, M. Blaauboer

We propose how to generate genuine multipartite entanglement of electron spin qubits in a chain of quantum dots using the naturally available single-qubit rotations and two-qubit Heisenberg exchange interaction in the system. We show that the minimum number of required operations to generate entangled states of the GHZ, cluster, and W type scales linearly with the number of qubits and estimate the fidelities of the generated entangled cluster states. As the required single and two-qubit operations have recently been realized, our proposed scheme opens the way for experimental investigation of multipartite entanglement with electron spin qubits.

Quantum Computing with Spin Cluster Qubits

Florian Meier, Jeremy Levy, Daniel Loss

We study the low energy states of finite spin chains with isotropic (Heisenberg) and anisotropic (XY and Ising-like) antiferromagnetic exchange interaction with uniform and nonuniform coupling constants. We show that for an odd number of sites a spin cluster qubit can be defined in terms of the ground state doublet. This qubit is remarkably insensitive to the placement and coupling anisotropy of spins within the cluster. One- and two-qubit quantum gates can be generated by magnetic fields and intercluster exchange, and leakage during quantum gate operation is small. Spin cluster qubits inherit the long decoherence times and short gate operation times of single spins. Control of single spins is hence not necessary for the realization of universal quantum gates.

Cluster-state preparation and multipartite entanglement analyzer with fermions

Xinglai Zhang, Mang Feng, K. Gao

Quantum cluster states and entangled-state analyzers are essential to measurement-based quantum computing. We propose to generate a quantum cluster state and to make a multipartite entanglement analyzer by using noninteracting free electrons or conduction electrons in quantum dots, based on polarizing beam splitters, charge detectors, and single-spin rotations. Our schemes are deterministic without the need of qubit-qubit interaction.

Quantum computation in semiconductor quantum dots of electron-spin asymmetric anisotropic exchange

Xiang Hao, Shiqun Zhu

The universal quantum computation is obtained when there exists asymmetric anisotropic exchange between electron spins in coupled semiconductor quantum dots. The asymmetric Heisenberg model can be transformed into the isotropic model through the control of two local unitary rotations for the realization of essential quantum gates. The rotations on each qubit are symmetrical and depend on the strength and orientation of asymmetric exchange. The implementation of the axially symmetric local magnetic fields can assist the construction of quantum logic gates in anisotropic coupled quantum dots. This proposal can efficiently use each physical electron spin as a logical qubit in the universal quantum computation.

One-step preparation of cluster states in quantum-dot molecules

Guo‐Ping Guo, Hui Zhang, Tao Tu +1 more

Cluster states, a special type of highly entangled states, are a universal resource for measurement-based quantum computation. Here, we propose an efficient one-step generation scheme for cluster states in semiconductor quantum dot molecules, where qubits are encoded on singlet and triplet states of two coupled quantum dots. By applying a collective electrical field or simultaneously adjusting interdot bias voltages of all double-dot molecules, we get a switchable Ising-like interaction between any two adjacent quantum molecule qubits. The initialization, the single-qubit measurement, and the experimental parameters are discussed. It is shown that preparation of large cluster states and one-way quantum computation are implementable in semiconductor quantum dots with the present techniques.

Cluster State Computation with Quantum‐Dot Charge Qubits

Matthew Lubelski Katz, Jingbo B. Wang

Quantum computers are expected to far surpass the capabilities of today′s most powerful supercomputers, particularly in areas such as the theoretical simulation of quantum systems, cryptography, and information processing. The cluster state is a special, highly entangled quantum state that forms the universal resource on which measurement‐based quantum computation can be performed. This paper provides a brief review of the theoretical foundations of cluster state quantum computation and how it evolved from the traditional model of digital computers. It then proposes a scheme for the generation of such entanglement in a solid‐state medium through the suppression of resonant tunneling of a ballistic electron by a single‐electron charge qubit. To investigate the viability of the scheme for the creation of cluster states, numerical calculations are performed in which the entanglement interaction is modeled in detail.
