Abstract

We propose an approach for the arbitrary rotation of a three-level superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) qubit and describe a strategy for the creation of coherence transfer and entangled states between two three-level SQUID qubits. The former is succeeded by exploring the coupled-uncoupled states of the system when irradiated with two microwave pulses, and the latter is succeeded by placing the SQUID qubits into a microwave cavity and used adiabatic passage methods for their manipulation.

Rotation gate for a three-level superconducting quantum interference device qubit with resonant interaction

Chui‐Ping Yang, Siyuan Han

We show a way to realize an arbitrary rotation gate in a three-level superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) qubit using resonant interaction. In this approach, the two logical states of the qubit are represented by the two lowest levels of the SQUID and a higher-energy intermediate level is utilized for the gate manipulation. By considering spontaneous decay from the intermediate level during the gate operation, we present a formula for calculating average fidelity over all possible initial states. Finally, based on realistic system parameters, we show that an arbitrary rotation gate can be achieved with a high fidelity in a SQUID.

Efficient scheme for quantum entanglement, quantum information transfer, and quantum gate with three-level SQUID qubits in cavity QED

Chui‐Ping Yang, Shih‐I Chu, Siyuan Han

A novel scheme is proposed for realizing quantum entanglement, quantum information transfer and a set of universal quantum gates with superconducting-quantum-interference-device (SQUID) qubits in cavity QED. In the scheme, the two logical states of a qubit are the two lowest levels of the SQUID. An intermediate level of the SQUID is utilized to facilitate coherent control and manipulation of quantum states of the qubits. The method presented here does not create finite intermediate-level population or cavity-photon population during the operations. Thus, decoherence due to spontaneous decay from the intermediate levels is minimized and the requirement on the quality factor of the cavity is greatly loosened.

Possible realization of entanglement, logical gates, and quantum-information transfer with superconducting-quantum-interference-device qubits in cavity QED

We present a scheme to achieve maximally entangled states, controlled phase-shift gate, and SWAP gate for two superconducting-quantum-interference-device (SQUID) qubits, by placing SQUIDs in a microwave cavity. We also show how to transfer quantum information from one SQUID qubit to another. In this scheme, no transfer of quantum information between the SQUIDs and the cavity is required, the cavity field is only virtually excited and thus the requirement on the quality factor of the cavity is greatly relaxed.

Generation of an Entangled State of Two Three-Level Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices in Cavity

Zhiming Zhan, Jiahua Li, Weibin Li

We propose a scheme for generating a maximally entangled state of two three-level superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) by using a quantized cavity field and classical microwave pluses in cavity. In this scheme, no quantum information will be transferred from the SQUIDs to the cavity since the cavity field is only virtually excited. Thus, the cavity decay is suppressed during the entanglement generation.

Preparation of Entanglement and Schrödinger Cat States of Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices Qubits via Coupling to a Microwave Cavity

An alternative scheme is proposed for the generation of n-qubit W states of superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) in cavity QED. In this scheme, Raman coupling of two lower flux states of SQUID system is achieved via a microwave pulse and the cavity mode. Conditioned on no photon leakage from the cavity, the n-qubit W state can be generated whether the effective coupling parameters of the SQUID to cavity mode and classical microwave fields are the same or different. Our strictly numerical simulations of the time evolution of the system including decay show that the success probability of our scheme is almost unity and the interaction time is on the order of 10 −9 s. The scheme can also be used to generate the Schrödinger cat states of multi-SQUID.

Quantum logic gates operation using SQUID qubits in bimodal cavity

We present a scheme to realize the basic two-qubit logic gates such as the quantum phase gate and SWAP gate using a detuned microwave cavity interacting with three-level superconducting-quantum-interference-device (SQUID) qubit(s), by placing SQUID(s) in a two-mode microwave cavity and using adiabatic passage methods. In this scheme, the two logical states of the qubit are represented by the two lowest levels of the SQUID and the cavity fields are treated as quantized. Compared with the previous method, the complex procedures of adjusting the level spacing of the SQUID and applying the resonant microwave pulse to the SQUID to create transformation are not required. Based on superconducting device with relatively long decoherence time and simplified operation procedure, the gates operate at a high speed, which is important in view of decoherence.
