Abstract

Quantum-cloning machine for arbitrary mixed states in symmetric subspaces is proposed. This quantum-cloning machine can be used to copy part of the output state of another quantum-cloning machine and is useful in quantum computation and quantum information. The shrinking factor of this quantum cloning achieves the well-known upper bound. When the input is identical pure states, two different fidelities of this cloning machine are optimal.

Quantum cloning of identical mixed qubits

Heng Fan, B.-Y. Liu, Kangjie Shi

Quantum cloning of two identical mixed qubits $\rho \otimes \rho$ is studied. We propose the quantum cloning transformations not only for the triplet (symmetric) states but also for the singlet (antisymmetric) state. We can copy these two identical mixed qubits to $M$ ($M\ge 2$) copies. This quantum cloning machine is optimal in the sense that the shrinking factor between the input and the output single qubit achieves the upper bound. The result shows that we can copy two identical mixed qubits with the same quality as that of two identical pure states.

Universal Quantum Cloning Machines for Two Identical Mixed Qubits

Yang Shuai, Meisheng Zhao, Nai-Le Liu +1 more

We present a series of universal quantum cloning machines for two identical mixed qubits. Every machine is optimal in the sense that it achieves the optimal bound of the single copy shrinking factor. Unlike in the case of pure state cloning, the single copy shrinking factor does not uniquely determine the cloning map in the case of mixed state cloning.

Optimal broadcasting of mixed states

Gui-Fang Dang, Heng Fan

The $N$ to $M$ $(M\ensuremath{\geqslant}N)$ universal quantum broadcasting of mixed states ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{\bigotimes}N}$ is proposed for a qubit system. The broadcasting of mixed states is universal and optimal in the sense that the shrinking factor is independent of the input state and achieves the upper bound. The quantum broadcasting of mixed qubits is a generalization of the universal quantum cloning machine for identical pure input states. A pure state decomposition of the identical mixed qubits ${\ensuremath{\rho}}^{\ensuremath{\bigotimes}N}$ is obtained.

Optimal copy complexity of quantum state cloning

Sangwoo Jeon, Vaughn Sohn, Changhun Oh

Quantum state cloning is the task of approximately producing additional copies of an unknown quantum state from a finite number of input copies. The optimal cloning fidelity is known exactly for pure states, but no comparable characterization is known for general mixed states. We determine the optimal asymptotic copy complexity for $d$-dimensional states of rank at most $r$: producing $M$ additional copies with worst-case fidelity at least $1-\varepsilon$ requires and is achievable with $N=Θ(Mrd/\varepsilon)$ input copies. Remarkably, the lower bound already holds for a family of states with a fixed flat spectrum, while the matching upper bound is achieved by random purification followed by optimal pure-state cloning. For $M=1$, we further show that high-fidelity tomography can be coherently converted into cloning with comparable error, revealing an operational origin of the matching cloning and tomography complexities.

A universal cloner allowing the input to be arbitrary states in symmetric subspace

Heng Fan, Keiji Matsumoto, Xiang‐Bin Wang +2 more

A generalized universal quantum cloning machine is proposed which allows the input to be arbitrary states in symmetric subspace. And it reduces to the universal quantum cloning machine (UQCM) if the input are identical pure states. The generalized cloner is optimal in the sense we compare the input and output reduced density operators at a single qubit. The result for qubits is extended to arbitrary-dimensional states.

Optimal Universal Quantum Cloning and State Estimation

Dagmar Bruß, ARTUR K. EKERT, Chiara Macchiavello

We derive a tight upper bound for the fidelity of a universal $N\ensuremath{\rightarrow}M$ qubit cloner, valid for any $M\ensuremath{\ge}N$, where the output of the cloner is required to be supported on the symmetric subspace. Our proof is based on the concatenation of two cloners and the connection between quantum cloning and quantum state estimation. We generalize the operation of a quantum cloner to mixed and/or entangled input qubits described by a density matrix supported on the symmetric subspace of the constituent qubits. We also extend the validity of optimal state estimation methods to inputs of this kind.
