Abstract

In this paper, the Lorentz transformations of entangled Bell states with general momentum not necessarily orthogonal to the boost direction and spin are studied. We extend quantum correlations and Bell's inequality to the relativistic regime by considering normalized relativistic observables. It is shown that quantum information along the direction perpendicular to the boost is eventually lost, and Bell's inequality is not always violated for entangled states in special relativity. This could impose restrictions on certain quantum information processing, such as quantum cryptography using massive particles.

Quantum Entanglement under Lorentz Boost

Lee, D, Chang-Young, E

In order to understand the characteristics of quantum entanglement of massive particles under Lorentz boost, we first introduce a relevant relativistic spin observable, and evaluate its expectation values for the Bell states under Lorentz boost. Then we show that maximal violation of the Bell's inequality can be achieved by properly adjusting the directions of the spin measurement even in a relativistically moving inertial frame. Based on this we infer that the entanglement information is preserved under Lorentz boost as a form of correlation information determined by the transformation characteristic of the Bell state in use.

Relativistic entanglement of two massive particles

Nicolai Friis, Reinhold A. Bertlmann, Marcus Huber +1 more

We describe the spin and momentum degrees of freedom of a system of two massive spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ particles as a four-qubit system. Then we explicitly show how the entanglement changes between different partitions of the qubits, when considered by different inertial observers. Although the two particle entanglement corresponding to a partition into Alice's and Bob's subsystems is, as often stated in the literature, invariant under Lorentz boosts, the entanglement with respect to other partitions of the Hilbert space on the other hand, is not. It certainly does depend on the chosen inertial frame and on the initial state considered. The change of entanglement arises, because a Lorentz boost on the momenta of the particles causes a Wigner rotation of the spin, which in certain cases entangles the spin with the momentum states. We systematically investigate the situation for different classes of initial spin states and different partitions of the four-qubit space. Furthermore, we study the behavior of Bell inequalities for different observers and demonstrate how the maximally possible degree of violation, using the Pauli-Lubanski spin observable, can be recovered by any inertial observer.

On the Relativistic Invariance of Entanglement

Esteban Castro-Ruiz, Eduardo Nahmad-Achar

In this work we study the entanglement properties under a Lorentz boost of a pair of spin- 1 massive particles, with spin and momentum as the sole degrees of freedom of the system. Different cases for entanglement between spins and momenta are considered as initial states and it is shown that entanglement between the different degrees of freedom is, in general, not invariant. We analyze the entanglement change in terms of the Wigner rotation induced by the transformation and show that, for the case of spin-1 particles, the relative entanglement change between different states depends strongly on the boost velocity.

Tripartite Entanglement and Lorentz Transformation

Firouz Amiri, Shahpoor Moradi

Entanglement of tripartite spin states under Lorentz transformations is studied in the context of Bell’s inequality and positive partial transpose criterion. First the relativistic analogue of Bell’s inequality is discussed for three qubit states by explicit calculation of the Wigner rotation. We use the relativistic invariant spin operator which is related to the Pauli-Lubanski pseudo vector. For observers at rest the Bell’s inequality is speed-independent and maximally violated. For moving observers it’s shown that Bell’s inequality is violated and the amount of violation depends on the boost speed. We show that in ultrarelativistic limit Bell’s inequality is still maximally violated. We also obtained the critical value for satisfying Bell’s inequality. The critical value of boost speed for violation of inequality for particles moving in the center of mass frame is greater than that for particles moving with the same momentum. Second we investigate the entanglement distillability of tripartite mixed spin states under Lorentz transformations in the context of Werner states. We show that there are states that will change from distillable (entangled) into separable for a certain value of rapidity.

Spin-momentum correlation in relativistic single particle quantum states

M. A. Jafarizadeha, M. Mahdian

This paper was concerned with the spin-momentum correlation in single-particle quantum states, which is described by the mixed states under Lorentz transformations. For convenience, instead of using the superposition of momenta we use only two momentum eigen states (p1 and p2) that are perpendicular to the Lorentz boost direction. Consequently, in 2D momentum subspace we show that the entanglement of spin-momentum in the moving frame depends on the angle between them. Therefore, when spin and momentum are perpendicular the measure of entanglement is not observer-dependent quantity in inertial frame. Likewise, we have calculated the measure of entanglement (by using the concurrence) and has shown that entanglement decreases with respect to the increasing of observer velocity. Finally, we argue that, Wigner rotation is induced by Lorentz transformations can be realized as controlling operator.
