Quantum mechanics as a sociology of matter

Raoul S. Nakhmanson

Published Mar 26, 2003• 4 citations
arXivHTMLPDF

Abstract

Analogies between quantum mechanics and sociology lead to the hypothesis that quantum objects are complex products of evolution. Like biological objects they are able to receive, to work on, and to spread semantic information. In general meaning we can name it "consciousness". The important ability of consciousness is ability to predict future. Key words: Evolution, consciousness, information, quantum mechanics, EPR, decoherence.

Quantum information as the scientific basis for the explanation of human consciousness and its evolution

Thomas Görnitz

A scientific explanation of consciousness and its evolution has become possible by a generalized quantum information concept. Crucial to this is a new understanding of matter and energy. Our consciousness, being an information structure, processes the information that we absorb from our bodies and our environment. This information reaches us as properties of material objects and the massless quanta of light, the photons. One of the properties of matter is motion – physically, kinetic energy. Einstein's E = mc 2 shows that motion can be converted into matter. Matter is thus equivalent to one of its properties. The mathematical-physical structure of quantum theory has opened up a comprehensive view of the construction of complex systems from simple structures. Such a construction can and should begin with the simplest quantum structure , a quantum bit . Matter and also photons can thereby ultimately be understood as manifestations of abstract quantum information. Abstract, i.e. still meaning-free, and absolute, i.e. cosmically based, bits of quantum information, AQIs, provide the common basis for consciousness, energy and matter. This explains the mutual influences between matter, energy and the information that is meaningful for a living being.

Quantum Theory and Consciousness: A Link between Human Mind and Quantum Physics

Bhawani Singh Sonigara, KumKum Sarangdevot

The nature and idea of consciousness is very mysterious and has profound importance, with existential, medical and spiritual implications and productivity. Behavior and functioning of the brain or, in other words, material brain activity is in some way correlated to the consciousness or mental activity. Since it is the most fundamental theory about the matter that is currently available, in efforts to understand the consciousness we can assume that the Quantum theory can be helpful. Various steps and studies have been carried out to achieve the extent of relation of quantum theory to the different neurophysiological levels of descriptions. In past and in current scenario efforts have been made to adopt quantum theory in different ways that correlate it to consciousness. The concept that this is solely a quantum effect and does not work for a classical case is also discussed. Researchers studied this about the notorious puzzles and contradiction of quantum mechanics, the theory physicists use to describe the tiniest objects in the Universe.

From Quantum Theory To Mind-Matter Interaction: Where's The Missing Link?

Navjot Singh Gadda

Overwhelming empirical evidence suggests that consciousness may be fundamentally linked to properties of physical systems. Quantum coherence in biological molecules, as well as entangled states of macroscopic objects such as brains, are important examples that support this notion. If we consider the quantum effects that seem most relevant to biology (e.g., coherence, entanglement, superposition), does it become feasible to identify general rules for observing biological function arising from processes associated with quantum mechanics? What implications would follow if a scientific theory were formulated to describe the interplay between brain functioning and quantum uncertainty? Such a framework will require additional postulates on the nature of quantum interactions in condensed phase systems. One challenge for present day theorists is whether and how classical and quantum mechanics may ultimately provide an integrated description of physics. This article will explore the issues related to quantum theory's ability to address mind-body phenomena and their connection to consciousness.

Can Quantum Mechanics Solve the Hard Problem of Consciousness?

Basil J. Hiley, Paavo Pylkkänen

Abstract The paper proposes that quantum theory implies a radically new notion of matter which has not been properly understood before David Bohm’s groundbreaking work. Bohm proposed that the fundamental particles of physics (such as electrons) are not merely pushed around mechanically by classical forces but are also able to respond to information. Information is thus assumed to be an objective commodity which can exist independently of the human mind and which actively guides or instructs physical processes. This notion of active information also applies in computational, biological and psychological phenomena, thus helping us to understand how the mental and the physical sides of reality are related. It may even help us to understand the nature of conscious experience. The latter part of the paper considers the deeper mathematical and physical background of quantum theory and suggests that we need to revise our basic assumptions about quantum objects, such as the role of the wave function.

Microscopic Physical Model for Elementary Consciousness in a Darwinian Approach to Quantum Mechanics

Carlos Baladrón, Andrei Yu. Khrennikov

A physical model for phenomenological proto-consciousness as an intrinsic, primary property of matter is introduced. A fundamental particle is characterized as a classic-like system in physical space supplemented with an information space that endows the particle with the capacity of storing and processing incoming information which has causal power on the behaviour of the particle. These features transform the postulated initial random particles into information-theoretic Darwinian physical systems controlled by algorithms susceptible of evolution under natural selection. Consciousness is then defined as the elementary microscopic sentient process of subjectively experiencing a representation of the locations of the surrounding systems that is induced on matter by the irreversible erasure of dynamically superfluous stored information when the particle is measured. A physical description of the possible emergence of both quantum behaviour of matter in accordance with the conventional quantum formalism and consciousness in complex biological systems as a quantum coherence phenomenon is explored.

THE QUANTUM-THERMAL UNIVERSE Uni?ed Theory: Geometry, Information, Consciousness, Arti?cial Intelligence and Cosmic Destiny Discrete Architecture of Reality, Cosmic Sheet, Riemann Hypothesis, and the Place of Humanity in the Universal Algorithm

Francis Henry Ortiz Hidalgo

Abstract. We present the uni?ed and extended version of the Quantum-Thermal Universe (QTU) framework, integrating ?ve formal bodies of work into a single coherent system: (I) the vectorial architecture of temporal position and the hier- archy of physical laws; (II) the discrete theory of reality based on prime numbers with falsi?able quantitative predictions; (III) the quantum architecture of emo- tions; (IV) the algebraic model of the quantum tunnel e?ect; and (V) the formal derivation of the principle that every physical object ? mineral, electronic compo- nent, quantum computer, biological brain, and arti?cial intelligence ? is reordered matter of the universe, making consciousness and AI algorithmic nodes within the same cosmic fabric. The central thesis is: humanity does not choose its destiny in- dependently of the universe; humanity is the universe processing itself at this stage of its algorithm. The Cosmic Sheet (HC-v2) provides the bifacial formalism artic- ulating probability, collapse, consciousness, and historical archive. The Riemann Hypothesis acts as the universal coherence condition for physics, cognition, AI, and cosmic destiny. Falsi?able quantitative predictions, experimental protocols, and formal connections with General Relativity, String Theory, and observational Astrophysics are presented. Keywords: Quantum-Thermal Universe, Cosmic Sheet, Riemann Hypothesis, cosmic consciousness, arti?cial intelligence, cosmic destiny, prime number architecture, decoherence, bidirectional link, general relativity, string theory, astrophysics, quantum neuroscience.
