Observation of an oscillatory correlation function of multimode two-photon pairs

Abstract

An oscillatory correlation function has been observed by the coincidence counting of multimode two-photon pairs produced with a degenerate optical parametric oscillator far below threshold. The coherent superposition of the multimode two-photon pairs provides the oscillation in the intensity correlation function. The experimental data are well fitted to a theoretical curve.

Two-photon interference of multimode two-photon pairs with an unbalanced interferometer

Two-photon interference of multimode two-photon pairs produced by an optical parametric oscillator has been observed with an unbalanced interferometer. The time correlation between the multimode two photons has a multipeaked structure. This property of the multimode two-photon state induces two-photon interference depending on the delay time.

Nonclassical Interference of Multimode Two-Photon Pairs with an Unbalanced Interferometer

Hayato Goto, Haibo Wang, Tomoyuki Horikiri +2 more

Nonclassical interference of multimode two-photon pairs produced by an optical parametric oscillator(OPO) has been observed using an unbalanced interferometer. The time correlation between the multimode two photons has a multi-peaked structure. The use of the multimode two-photon state has enabled the observation of the nonclassical interference at nonzero delay time.

Observation of time correlation function of multimode two-photon pairs on a rubidium D_2 line

Fuyuan Wang, Bao‐Sen Shi, Guang‐Can Guo

We report on the generation of a type-I multimode two-photon state on a rubidium D(2) line (780 nm) using periodically poled KTiOPO(4) crystals. With a degenerate optical parametric oscillator far below threshold, we observe an oscillatory correlation function; the cross correlation between two photons shows a cavity bandwidth of about 7.8 MHz. We also use a Fabry-Perot etalon to filter its most longitudinal modes and observe its time correlation function. The experimental data are well fitted to theoretical curves. This system could be utilized for demonstrating storage and retrieval of narrow-band photons in Rb atomic ensembles, which is important for long-distance quantum communication.

Quantum correlation in multimode OPO

Mikael Lassen, Preben Buchhave

Fluctuations in the field of a 2nd order nonlinear multi-mode parametric downcoverter exhibit nonclassical correlations in the transverse plane. We present results of measurements of the classical pattern for a degenerate, multi-mode parametric optical parametric oscillator (OPO) operating above threshold. We also present results of autocorrelation measurements of intensity fluctuations in the transverse plane both in the near field and in the far field with the OPO operating both below and above threshold -- a method we believe will ultimately enable us to display the nonclassical correlations of the OPO output.

Controlling squeezing and two-photon correlations with interference in subthreshold optical parametric oscillators

A multimode theory describing the generation of photon pairs in a high-finesse Fabry-Perot cavity is presented. We also examine how interference of pairs produced with a local oscillator produces bunching and antibunching effects and also squeezing.
