Abstract

Bipartite quantum states are classified into three categories: separable states, bound entangled states, and free entangled states. It is of great importance to characterize these families of states for the development of quantum information science. In this Letter, I show that the separable states and the bound entangled states have a common spectral property. More precisely, I prove that for undis-tillable-separable and bound entangled-states, the eigenvalue vector of the global system is majorized by that of the local system. This result constitutes a new sufficient condition for distillability of bipartite quantum states. This is achieved by proving that if a bipartite quantum state satisfies the reduction criterion for distillability, then it satisfies the majorization criterion for separability.

Quantum separable criterion based on characteristic function

CHEN XiaoYu, JIANG LiZhen

Entanglement is the most important feature of quantum information science and it is closely related to the foundation of quantum mechanics. To determine a given bipartite quantum state to be entangled or not is by no means easy. We propose a separable criterion for bipartite quantum states based on their characteristic function or characteristic matrix. We use local filtering transform and local rotation transform to simplify the characteristic matrix, while keeping the positivity and entanglement property of the quantum state invariant. The development of Heisenberg-Weyl matrix basis makes the transforms possible. The local transforms greatly reduce the number of none-zero elements of characteristic matrix. The new criterion of separability then is constructed on the none-zero elements. We compare the entanglement detecting properties of our criterion with realignment criterion and modified correlation matrix criterion on $3\times~3$ bound entangled states. It is shown that our criterion is better than realignment criterion for most of the states.

Separable States Are More Disordered Globally than Locally

Michael A. Nielsen, Julia Kempe

A remarkable feature of quantum entanglement is that an entangled state of two parties, Alice ( A) and Bob ( B), may be more disordered locally than globally. That is, S(A)>S(A,B), where S(*) is the von Neumann entropy. It is known that satisfaction of this inequality implies that a state is nonseparable. In this paper we prove the stronger result that for separable states the vector of eigenvalues of the density matrix of system AB is majorized by the vector of eigenvalues of the density matrix of system A alone. This gives a strong sense in which a separable state is more disordered globally than locally and a new necessary condition for separability of bipartite states in arbitrary dimensions.

Can spectral and local information decide separability?

K. G. H. Vollbrecht, Michael M. Wolf

We discuss the discriminating power of separability criteria, which are based on the spectrum of a quantum state and its reductions. Common examples are entropic inequalities utilizing conditional Tsallis or Renyi entropies. We prove that these inequalities are implied by the reduction criterion for any positive value of the entropic parameters. We show however, that arbitrary sets of criteria based on spectral and local information can never be sufficient by establishing a separable, isospectral and locally undistinguishable counterpart for any Werner state in odd dimensions. For the case of two qubit systems we show that a simple controlled phase gate operation can produce an isospectral, entangled state out of a separable one, which has the same reductions.

A Necessary and Sufficient Criterion for the Separability of Quantum State

Junli Li, Cong‐Feng Qiao

Quantum entanglement has been regarded as one of the key physical resources in quantum information sciences. However, the determination of whether a mixed state is entangled or not is generally a hard issue, even for the bipartite system. In this work we propose an operational necessary and sufficient criterion for the separability of an arbitrary bipartite mixed state, by virtue of the multiplicative Horn's problem. The work follows the work initiated by Horodecki et al. and uses the Bloch vector representation introduced to the separability problem by J. De Vicente. In our criterion, a complete and finite set of inequalities to determine the separability of compound system is obtained, which may be viewed as trade-off relations between the quantumness of subsystems. We apply the obtained result to explicit examples, e.g. the separable decomposition of arbitrary dimension Werner state and isotropic state.

Separability Criterion of Bipartite Qubit States

BI Hong-mei

Generally,to decide a given quantum state to be entangled or not,or to be useful for quantum information processing purposes is a difficult question. In this note, the separability of quantum states in bipartite quantum systems is investigated.According to the analysis of the expanded form of density matrix in the separable quantum state and the relationship of expansion coefficient,a new separability criterion of bipartite quantum states is obtained: if a quantum state in a bipartite quantum system of arbitrary dimension is separable, the expansion coefficient satisfies certain inequality. This method requires only the dimensions of systems and the expansion coefficient of density matrix which can be easily got,and the computation is easy,so it has its application value.

Bound entanglement and distillability of multipartite quantum systems

Hui Zhao, Xin-Yu Yu, Naihuan Jing

We construct a class of entangled states in ℋ = ℋA ⊗ ℋB ⊗ ℋC quantum systems with dim ℋA = dim ℋB = dim ℋC = 2 and classify those states with respect to their distillability properties. The states are bound entanglement for the bipartite split (AB) - C. The states are non-positive partial transpose (NPT) entanglement and 1-copy undistillable for the bipartite splits A - (BC) and B - (AC). Moreover, we generalize the results of 2 ⊗ 2 ⊗ 2 systems to the case of 2n ⊗ 2n ⊗ 2n systems.
